  1. The natural natural progression for a coach to move from position coach-coordinator- Head Coach and it always has been but this is a much different game then even 10-20 years ago. Just because a guy is good at drawing up schemes and calling plays really has little to do with them being a successful HC, which is why you see so many of them fail. Being a good head coach is more about things like organization, accountability of both players and staff, and like @sho said, managing players and managing the game. If Trev understands this, which I believe he does, I think Mickey is a serious candidate for the job. So far it seems like Mickey can do these things and with Trev's help we could get some top notch coordinators and assistants.
  2. Do we have any interest in Jaylen Lloyd at all? The kid is a tremendous athlete.
  3. It’s a shame that we’re probably only get to watch him for one year.
  4. In my opinion Benning is great when it comes to the X’s and O’s, much better than Matt. He doesn’t have nearly the energy Matt does though. I think after Palmer’s huge touchdown to get us back in the game he was so monotone. With all the huge plays Matt would I’ve been going crazy and I missed that. That and Matt had a good voice for the radio. It just wasn’t the same!
  5. Yep same as last year. A couple sacks on 3rd downs and it could be a different game. You’ve got to be able to get to the QB.
  6. His connection was Whipple so I'm not sure we hold onto this one.
  7. It would not surprise me if our "simplified" defense takes a step back this week now that a much better team like Purdue has a couple of weeks on film to expose our weaknesses. I expect Purdue to score some points hopefully we can still force a couple turnovers. Regardless, you can't be much worse than we were in the first few weeks and historically we've always been able to put up points on Purdue so hopefully our defense can do enough to keep us in it!
  8. There is nobody on earth that doesn't want a $5-6 million/year pay raise.
  9. I could listen to Mickey's pressers all day. Easy to see now why he's such a great recruiter.
  10. I knew Casey was going to be more of a pocket passer but I guess I have been a little surprised that we completely abandoned the QB run game all together. I also thought we'd see Smothers get a series here and there just for a spark/change of pace but maybe that's just not Whipple's MO. Maybe they take a few more chances with Casey next week since we have another bye following Purdue.
  11. I was under the impression that an analyst could do anything except actually coach players. I would assume somebody like Cooper is already in the booth and very involved with the offense during a game so he'd logically be a guy that could step in very easily. It's hard to replace Whipple's years of coaching experience but I'd bet somebody like Cooper could come in and handle the duties fairly well. I'd be more worried about it being another mental blow to a team that's already endured a lot particularly for the QB's who work so closely with Whipple.
  12. Well it's very likely that you'd be able to win the West this year without beating a ranked team.
  13. Yea it would be too much to put on Mickey at this point. Beckton could certainly be a possibility but my money would be on Steve Cooper, Senior Offensive Analyst. He's been here since 2018 and he's at least been an OC at his previous job at Portland State. He's also probably much more involved with the play calling already than somebody like Beckton would be.
  14. The scuttlebutt is that he basically had to be begged to stay on after Frost was let go since he's already dealing with the medical issues. Also some speculation that he may possibly resign after the Purdue game and they'll turn over the reigns to someone else during the bye week. Would be another blow to this team but it sounds like he's already missed some practices because of it. At the very least it wouldn't surprise me to see him move up to the booth. Given the situation I would imagine that they're prepping somebody to fill in for him regardless.
  15. Interesting that HIll went from starter to not even on the depth chart. Seems likely that the coach that really like him isn't here anymore. I would have liked to see him get a chance with the modified defense but Hartzog is holding is own. I wonder what Manning's status is since he left the game on crutches Friday. What once seemed like a deep WR room seems to be thinning out very quickly. Also I'm assuming Gabe got dinged up? They seemed very confident in him being the next man up in the RB rotation.
  16. I learned we are so bad that other teams are firing their coaches after losing to us.
  17. Wonder if he realized that this the rumors of him leaving heating up. Might be a day late and a dollar short now.
  18. Yea it’s definitely intersecting that we’ve seen some immediate personnel changes. Seems pretty obvious that coaches weren’t on the same page in some aspects at least.
  19. Why does Whipple only run on 1st and 20?
  20. Would actually be kind of hilarious if Mickey fired Whipple tomorrow.
  21. You guys remember that that time Vedral had to suit up for the basketball team? Good times
  22. 3 of the 7 points on the offense. But like the last 5 years, when one unit plays decent the other completely lays an egg.
  23. That was a garbage call. Gonna be one of those games where nothing goes our way.
