  1. Just an aside: Are rosters setting down much anywhere these days?
  2. Nebraska has an on and off history of developing walkons, along with good recruiting. I've also noticed that the great seasons often came along with somewhat unexpected high performance by certain players who were behind the great recruits on the team. It is very much about precision coaching from the Head Guy all through the staff. The culture. Is that culture there now?
  3. Well.. YES! - Signed, KarenNebraska55fan
  4. That's right, offset the negative vibes by that OP guy!
  5. I'd say, yes, the Huskers and the Crimson Tide are indeed in different stages of development. Different "stages" of recruitment, as well.
  6. I did a search in the forums on "scott frost" and this topic came up. It's old but I didn't want to begin a new topic. I notice many times that the Lincoln newspaper sports writers mention and seem to criticize the coach for talking up the players and the coming season. Coach Frost, once in front of a microphone and cameras seems to remain positive, all the while delivering poor seasons as the games go by. That made me think of great coaches, past and present, and how they talk about their teams, the players and the performances in practice or in games etc. Coach Saban is known to publicly be hard on this or that squad (the d, the o, who ever he sees not performing, even the quarterback now and then, or a receiver). I used to watch Steve Spurrier cuss his team terribly during half time interviews and then come out and play better second half. And we all know about Woody Hayes. Made me wonder. Made me wonder if Scott Frost can really see what's up. Or is he just being a real good public relations guy for Husker football. I'm asking. I'm not making a statement that he should complain about the players. It's more a question in my mind of whether or not he's just wanting to be seen a certain way. Some of those other coaches may not have cared much about how they were seen as long as they got their wins, and maybe the negative remarks got around to motivating players?
  7. Nice thread. Great vids. Special stuff. Different than the usual pr stuff. Thanks all for sharing.
  8. Some of us have kids who don't understand the ruckus. They were born in the late 90s. The kids have seen mediocre and doo-doo season records for as long as they can remember, They have seen several coaching and even Athletic Director changes in efforts to remedy the whole thing. A couple of generations now see 9 win expectations as Tom Osborn "old people stuff." They see reality. I don't, apparently. I keep getting the feeling that there is energy from those old days that is embedded in the Husker spirit and is more than mere expectations. I thus see 8 or more wins this season and beyond for the reasons that Moos was saying when he cited the new growing attitude team wide and the players who just want it more than in recent past. So, yes, of course we're going to a bowl game. A good one.
  9. Well, it depends on what is meant by "...plays in the NFL." He may be a millionth round draft pick.. then play safety. But I believe him when he says he wants a hireable degree in his chosen career; that's more likely what we'll see if this season doesn't look as good as some of us think it'll look (8 wins! Maybe more).
  10. I saw (some) nimble QBing. Etc but what caught my eye was the White Team D. Through the whole thing I detected desire .. frustration at not being able to throw 'em down first half, but eager guys all around. Liked AM's pass work in the stiff breeze, generally. Banging running game looked fine. Got a kick out of HH's TD as the game closed. Great experience.
  11. We need to see how AM will act under duress and that ain't going to happen in this "game." But we may see if he's got passing chops in the wind.
  12. I am certain of 7 wins, and I see them all as winnable if the fire continues (as reported by those monitoring practices). Let's see what there is to see in the RW game tomorrow. Altho I'm not thrilled to see no tackling in the entire first half. Maybe flag football.. with the coaches yelling to the ball carrier, "swing those hips!"
  13. Almost a month ago news, but today's LJS quoted responses from him had no "I'm here for the duration and will not leave until I retire" vibe. Looked to me like he left room for ... Taking the Pac 12 job. https://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/football/moos-says-hes-heard-nothing-from-pac-12-conference-regarding-commissioner-vacancy/article_80b555fa-1567-54c2-807e-6b640427b52f.html Yes, Mr. Moos, you've not yet achieved what you said you were going to achieve here.
  14. Welp, that about the early games. I am thinking that the team attitude all around MAY be strong enough to overcome setbacks. Setbacks happen in every game..as plays don't work as chalked, passes get deflected, etc. The strength of the mission feeling has to overcome that play to play and then game to game. A loss should get people good and p.oed, not slinking down to that Riley attitude of "doing our best..oh well there's always next week." Is it idealism to see them changing so much this year that they can not just learn from setbacks but be team-wide motivated by them? I guess so.
  15. I'd think that a good coach would be telling the team that very thing. Meanwhile, it is still not a given that every game on the '21 schedule will be played. (Sadly) it could be said that that increases our chances.
  16. Every single game looks winnable to me. Sounds crazy, I know. I'll see laughing emojis. But we're seeing reports by biased and unbiased people of a team-wide change in attitude. And that is what changes things drastically. To speak knowledgeably about it we'd have to closely look at each opponent and the man-to-man match ups all around. But this is about a feeling of mission coming through, which we last saw long ago. LONG ago. ~ hagg
