  1. You laugh? Why? We've all heard from players about the playbook Callahan brought in, it's huge. Like an encyclopedia. I was using it more as a way to describe the intricacy of the type of offense we ran. It was too complicated and I hope it's dumbed down a little. I laugh because people still think it was used day in and say out. I am sure it will still be similar. Most of this year I think the plays ran were pretty simple. Every week the team was given the package of plays they were going to run that week. That's what was focused on. People talk like every week they were trying to master EVERY play EVER conceived by the coaching staff. Which is simply not true. I bet if you were to compile every play that Watson has devised, seen or heard about you'd get the same volume. The difference is, fans aren't out to beat Watson down so you won't hear about it. Just to add a little to Dave's post - the problem wasn't with the size of the playbook. Players didn't have to memorize every play. Instead, the staff would work up a much smaller number of plays that they thought would work that week. If there was a complexity issue, it was the terminology. I remember either Taylor or Keller describing a typical play once, and it was mind-numbing. I think that's also what contributed to the "run to the sideline to get the play" issue - it was more to get the terminology. The quarterbacks has wristbands with the plays for that week. Simplify the terminology - the number of plays doesn't really matter so long as they can learn the ones for each week in time. It's exactly what AR said. Terminology was the problem. A new language, communicating it, translating it, and all the multiple options that went along with it. With the emphasis on technique & mechanics. As for the type of plays, I personally do not care for a short, precise, controlled passing & running game. These guys are not robots. I prefer an offense that opens it up, plays loose, throws the ball downfield to the open man, and runs the sweep/student body right.
  2. Before the CU game, the Huskers switched to a variation of the spread and that worked out pretty well. I think Watson could handle the transition. Exactly. And I concur.
  3. Not trying to knock Jordan down, but I think the talent at RB is amazing. And these guys just do not recognize a cutback if the hole was 10 feet wide. Plus, not much leg emphasis in order to pile drive ahead & break open field tackles. He's a good guy, but a new coach might bring in a different perspective.
  4. Strength coach gets 'em tough in the gym. Head coach gets 'em tough on the field. Hope this all works out.
  5. I dont hate Colorado, but I just cant stand them a lot. That's usually when we play them. I'm cool with all the Big 12 teams.
  6. Thanks for the 'script. It was very encouraging to read and hear that. Even if it were to take some time, he's not leaning on that crutch as a fallback excuse. Which is something any coach would say and do. That's awesome.
  7. Arrested on 5 counts? Damn, that's a lot. I'm not going to call stupid or rip him apart. I'm not going to say that it's highly impossible for a college student to get out of control while drinking, even before he hits 21. I will say his actions got the best of him. And fortunately he was not driving. Have to reprimand the person definately, but not write him off as a bad person.
  8. I could have sworn that I read somewhere, at some time, that the commissionar of the Big 10 also plays a big part in the BCS, and will never, ever, ever have a Big 10 CG. I forget his reasons why though. I'll have to dig it up if I have time.
  9. UCLA needs to be 8-3 every year. As a benchmark at least. It's a storied program. It doesnt have to be 11-0 National Champs each season, but the idea of challenging USC for the Pac10 title has got to be a reality in thought every year. Instead they continue to play rollercoaster seasons while other Pac10 teams are emerging. Something has to be done.
  10. The AD or something like that went to Michigan and the first thing he did at Delaware was acquire their uni's. At least that's what I heard on Sirius College Football. But yah, I totally get what you're saying. It's pretty ironic.
  11. After that incredibly long read, I dont really follow what this writer is babbling on about. If his point is how Michigan is handling it's new coach search, he could have left off a few paragraphs. I understand the spins the other coaches did. So what? Michigan needs a Michigan guy. Great. Like Husk37 said, just get Harbough. Forget about Miles.
  12. No one really separated themselves from the pack. I'm okay with Tebow winning it. He never really had a subpar or bad game. I thought Adrian Peterson should have won the 04 Heisman over Leinart (as a freshmen) since he was the best player in the country that season.
  13. That's HUGE for the Tigers. Although changing leagues doesnt always go smoothly for players, i.e., learning new pitchers, hitters, strike zone, etc. NUpolo, are you saying the Dodgers got Andruw Jones? For 30 mil? That's crazy. He's a bit overrated IMO.
  14. If you are considered among the top 3 all time, then that's pretty damn good. No questions, Osborne and Bear - those are the best. My biased opinion agrees that TO was slightly better.
  15. I like his weekly blog. It's simple stuff & not a lot of hot air. He makes his point clear. And it always has a Nebraska family flavor, with regards to toughness and hard work.
  16. It will definitely be interesting to see how it all plays out. I think it mainly depends on how strong the relationship was built between Pelini and the recruits.
  17. I remember hearing he was mobile, not a runner, a good arm, but not a pure drop back passer. When he transfered from Georgia to Texas, I had a few chances to go see him play. At the time, I just didnt feel like making the 45 minute drive. Looking back, I kind of wish I did now.
  18. Please elaborate. Also, I hate to have to be the one to do this...... border. Also,.....Bolini Just thought it would be cool to play against these running/wishbone/option type teams. I've always had respect for Navy & Air Force.
  19. Travis, Yes, Witt or Lee could be better. Does that mean they are ready? I mean, anyone can look like a great QB throwing a football in a jersey and shorts. I agree, if someone is better, and they win it out, go with them. I completely agree with you on that. I'm only pointing out that Ganz is the only dawg who has been battled tested. He didnt exactly just show up. He got this offense out of a scoring rut. He threw I cant do "what if" because at this point, no one has played better or has the experience with success and some adversity. Otherwise, what if we had a defense that actually stopped the other team? Wouldnt that alone change the game plan? Anyway, I'm not retiring his jersey. But I am acknowledging that he exploited KSU for 7 TDS, he moved the ball against KU and scored early on them while the defense didnt keep them from scoring in more than 5 plays, and the running game was completely abandoned against CU.
  20. I always enjoy this type of discussion. If it was a home & away type - 1. Michigan 2. Ohio State 3. Navy 4. Air Force 5. Alabama 6. Miami, Fla - Night game 7. Wisconsin - all that red 8. Arkansas 9. North Carolina
  21. Haha Knapplc I know. It's valid information and in football for a specific reason. Not a bad thing. It's a positive thing. A starter kit if you will. Just would like to welcome anyone by providing some 411 that will help keep this organized for everyone to enjoy
