  1. Rams should take Suh IMO...guys like him are rare. Go and get a QB in round 2.
  2. Let's get Carnes visit completed. I have a tough time thinking he won't like his visit. Would really like to see Carnes N!
  3. Word is Carnes will visit NU on Jan. 23. Godfrey will visit Virginia on Jan. 22 and then NU on Jan. 29.

    Deja Vu

And he wins the Alamo Bowl...and beats Michigan State...(cue Twilight Zone intro here)
  5. This is funny. Runaway Lane Here is the problem I see with Kiffen. I actually don't really fault him for taking the USC job...this is a once in a lifetime opportunity dream job for him in a unique place that means a lot to him...the circumstances were very unique that this job would open up so soon as no one expected Pete Carroll to be gone. That being said, he didn't have to be a pompous jerk to Tennessee! He could have been really gracious to Tennessee but instead you could tell he was just giving them lip service. Then his opening presser at USC took the cake....he talked about his experience at Tennessee being positive because of the "connections" he established that would allow him to be in better position for the USC job...then when asked why he thought Tenn fans were so upset he remarks they are upset because they saw all the great things he did and naturally are upset at losing such a great coach! It all goes back to him and how great he is and what Tennessee could do for him! <Didn't we used to have an "asshat" emoticon? Someone please insert it here!> Is this guy just naive or actually the pompous ass he so well portays? I think it is a unique combination of both! Then, to lie about not knowing his staff was contacting Tenn's recruits before the guy was even gone...slimeball stuff. I was actually not surprised to hear Norm Chow is not coming. Chow seems way too smart and wise for these antics. Also, anybody else think this as well...if Monte wasn't Lane's dad would Lane be anywhere near the jobs he has had? Monte gives him credibility that he would not have otherwise. Think about it...if two of the biggest clowns in football (Lane and Orgeron) were coming to take over your program, would you be excited? I think the craziness of this is toned down with the presence of Monte as the father figure who won't let it get too far. Without Monte, Lane and Orgeron would be a joke.
  6. Bo has only been here 2 years. I like this approach for younger coaches also. Incentivize more $$$ for winning the national championship and Big 12. That is what he is here to ultimately do. If he hits those bonuses then he is going to get another raise anyway. Not saying this would be Bo but how many times do you see the big deal signed and then the player or coach never lives up to it? Keep Bo and his staff hungry...that's how we need them and they will achieve.
  7. Is it just me or is there no other coach in the country referred to as prick, brat, and dbag as much as Lane? Not sure what to make of this hire. They had to move fast but I am not sure how this is going to pan out for the Trojans. I see some hard years ahead...NCAA was starting to line up Kiffen in the crosshairs at Tenn and now he is over at USC where they are getting ready to lay the hammer? Chow may be wiser to just get some more $$$ out of UCLA for all this trouble. Too bad for Monte...his brat kid and Orgeron are two of the biggest clowns around. Heard Orgeron was already calling Tenn recruits to get them to switch to USC as Lane was addressing his former players. If this is not a violation, it sure is slimy. Hey, I want to get the best recruits out there but I think you can at least wait 24 hours and actually be introduced as the new coach and be on the new job and not have to show this level of insensitivity. I think a lot of recruits (and their parents) can be turned off by this used car salesman stuff.
  8. I would go after this kid, Ahmad Dixon. Safety from Waco, TX. If we can't land Cooper, get this kid N. Monte is no longer at Tennessee so this kid can come play for a real defense. http://rivals.yahoo.com/tennessee/football...mad-Dixon-82277 EDIT: Wow...doing some quick research and he just gave Tenn his commitment within the last week...he was formerly pledged to Texas and then mostly to Baylor. This guy jumps around more than Lane! Wonder if he goes back to Baylor? Says he likes Tenn in large part because of Monte. Wonder now what for this kid?
  9. Have noticed this for awhile. Sometimes when I put up something new I find in recruiting (like linking to a recent article), it pops up on the other boards shortly thereafter. It is all good. A lot of the general topics can start anywhere but my experience has been that Huskerboard has the best recruiting forum...if you want the recruiting scoop, this is your place!
  10. Reading through and I see lots of good candidates. So, do the rest of the masses get to vote or something? When's the poll?
  11. I feel confident that Bo will keep these guys grounded. I look for Bo to keep us grounded also. Great to see us finish #14 this year and we deserve a fairly good pre-season ranking for next year. This can always help with recruits as we have chance to compete for it all when you start out highly ranked. As for Nebraska, Texas, and Oklahoma...I think we all enter next season all very close and pre-season rankings will sometimes have us at the top of this list (like this one). Great to see this. Now let's git r done!
  12. I will try to spin this in a positive light. Perhaps ND came with the in-home as their final press for Cooper. If he is a silent commit to us then hopefully that was ND's last gasp and we called him to make sure he was still N. If he was already a silent commit, then perhaps we figured the in-home was not necessary (i.e. keep the budget down). That's my positive thinking for the day!
  13. I think our chances with Carnes have to be very good and as good as anyone else right now with USF in shambles. MODS, we should move Brion Carnes profile into the 2010 recruiting forum I would think.
  14. Nice call...that would likely happen if Riley leaves for USC. Mike Leach would surely love to compete against the Oregon Nike Ducks...Oregon is known as where all the fast offensive skill players go to spread it out on offense...Leach would certainly draw some players away with potentially an even higher powered offense.
  15. Here is a pretty well known USC blog those in So Cal know about. Scott Wolf appears a lot on local sports radio giving his inside scoop on all things USC...a lot of Trojan fans don't like him but he usually has some decent insight. http://www.insidesocal.com/usc/ I was shocked when I heard this today. Carroll to the Seahawks? I am thinking the writing is on the wall that the NCAA could come down on the program. So, this could also hurt any potential new hire...like a Mike Riley...he has a good gig at Oregon St. So he could come to USC and then run risk of going on probation. That is going to weigh on any potential hire as well as recruits...do recruits want to come without Pete and then be stuck during probation years? Kids come to USC to play for the BCS title and Rose Bowl...imagine if they aren't eligible to play for those games? Look for recruits to start bailing. Man, one sub-par year and this whole empire is crumbling (also RB McKnight and WR Williams now bolting to the NFL and back-up QB Corp will transfer). Oregon is now getting the conference props, Stanford and Harbaugh keep getting USC's number and rubbing Pete's nose in it, Ricky and UCLA will do anything to take the Trojans out, and his old staff is at Washington and kicking his butt also. Carroll may see Seahawks as his last pay day...if he were to have another bad year at USC next year and also have sanctions come against him, then a lot of tarnish falls off the program, no more big recruits, no more dominating the Pac-10 and the Rose Bowl games against the Little 11, no more NFL teams calling to boost your ego. This one has me very intrigued.
  16. After we lost in the manner we did to Texas, I thought there would be no way I could root for Texas...but I actually ended up rooting for them. They already were the underdog and then to lose McCoy made them a huge underdog. Gilbert is going to be really good for them as he was able to do some things once he settled in. I have spent a lot of time rooting against McCoy because of our battles with him, but he was class tonight. Not sure what to make of him for the NFL...needs some more size and fire IMO. Really bummed to see McCoy get knocked out because it truly changed the game and this game dragged unexciting for the most part. Texas defense rattled the Alabama QB for awhile but couldn't get a defensive score which they badly needed. Gotta respect what Bama has put together. Awesome defense, RB's breaking tackles, fast WR's, and good return game. QB is efficient and plays hard and only wins...only going to get better. Bama is preseason #1 no doubt.
  17. Latest from Husker Journal. BRONSON MARSH, QB, 6-0, 200, 4.5, OMAHA (MILLARD SOUTH), NEBRASKA Official Visit Coming Up “I’m coming to Nebraska in about a week I don’t have an offer from them but I’m suppose to find out when I go up there on my visit. If Nebraska offers me I will commit. I’ve been to a lot of their games on unofficial visits. Barney Cotton or someone is supposed to come to the school pretty soon and talk about the visit.” Marsh said Could Play Both Sides At NU “Nebraska contacted me a couple of days after Gabbert de-committed. They (NU Coaches) said they are not 100 percent what they will recruit me as, could be quarterback or athlete. They are looking at my tapes and stuff.” Marsh said “I could play wide receiver or safety, I’ve never played receiver. I did play safety and would like to play offense if I could.” Marsh said “I don’t know I would. I’ll have to keep my options open it would be pretty hard to turn down money.” Marsh said about walking on at Nebraska Getting The Word Out I just recently sent film to Scott Frost up at Oregon he called after I broke one of his records. Scott said he would take a look at it. I just sent one to Kansas and Ohio. Tom Osborne (NU AD) said if Nebraska doesn’t offer me he will help me get an offer. Tom knows a lot of coaches Scott said the same.” Marsh said
  18. The mindset of being back is definitely getting there. I won't say we are truly back until we win the conference championship and/or win a BCS bowl. That is what we need to be doing consistently every year and having the chance to do every year...if we do this, we will have our cracks at the crystal football and will be "back" for good. Next season is a big opportunity.
  19. I have watched Georgia Tech 3 times this year...all three of their losses! Can you say one dimensional? They only run the triple option and can't do anything else. Their QB is terrible passing the ball so why even defend that? Once GT got behind, I knew it was over for them. Announcers commented that when teams have a chance to scheme for GT's offense, GT loses. I know there is some lovefest on this board for GT's offense but I know we won't bring that here. You need some balance and I am confident our offense can be better than either of these teams tonight. GT has got to be one of my picks for most overrated this year. Kudos to Iowa...they deserved it.
  20. It is hard not to like Boise State...they seem to play with a ton of confidence. TCU looked flat and uninspired to me and their QB was dreadful...that last play chucking it up while falling back summed up this guy's game...not impressed. Moore at QB for BSU on the other hand just keeps playing and the guy makes plays. WR Titus Young is great to watch for BSU also. Nice year for both teams but Boise State is the real deal and they have proven that at least for one game they can play with anyone (and they always seem to make it fun to watch with the trickeration).
  21. From the Husker Journal link I just provided above, it appears our QB targets are Kain Colter and Brion Carnes.
  22. Latest from Husker Journal. Looks like Arizona State and Northwestern are high. This kid needs to visit...if he wants to play big time football then the visit should put him over the top for us. I think this one all goes down on how the visit goes. Says he has talked to Watson. JANUARY 4 2010. MESSAGE BOARDS KAIN COLTER, QB, 6-1, 190, ENGLEWOOD (CHERRY CREEK), COLORADO Kain de-committed from Stanford and is looking around for another school. Kain already visited Arizona State and Northwestern. Nebraska has shown interest and TCU is up in the air right now. Family Roots In Arizona “All my family lives in Arizona. My dad and uncle played football at Mc Clintock high school so I have a bunch of family that lives in that area” Colter said Education Concerns At ASU “I met Coach Erickson he’s great. He wants me to play quarterback and that’s a huge deal. The only thing I’m a little skeptical about is the education part. They have an honors program (Barrett Honors College) there and they (ASU Coaches) want me to enroll in. That was a great deal.” Colter said “It’s (Barrett Honors College) an honor program where a degree is worth a little more, a higher ranked program.” Colter added High On Sun Devils “I’m pretty highly recruited by Arizona State,” says Colter, “They need a quarterback and I want to play quarterback. Once I de-committed from Stanford some of the Arizona State coaches came out before break. They are definitely on me, I’m definitely thinking about going there.” Colter said Positives At ASU “The fan support is great. One thing that was big for me is being around some of the players when I was down there. My host was Matt Tucker he’s from Colorado and I’ve known him.” Colter said Great Education At Northwestern “There (Northwestern) education is second to none that kind of speaks for itself. Stepping out of there getting a job can make some good money. Northwestern takes care of their players, graduate and get hooked up with internship.” Colton said “Coach Fitz is a great guy and I feel their program is in the right direction. They went to the Alamo Bowl and Outback Bowl. I like the Big 10 conference, Chicago is a great city.” Colter said Play Early at NU “I have a chance to play early at Northwestern. I know their quarterback right now has graduated and they only have two more in and that’s it. I know they (NU) have one signed and they are trying to bring in another QB.” Colter said “On Top Of My Board” “Northwestern was one of the first schools to offer me. I know their offensive coordinator pretty well right now they (NU) are on top of my board, it’s going to be a tough decision a lot of factors will weigh in.” Colter said “Northwestern runs the spread they ran it 75 times against Auburn. I fit that system really well it’s what we do in high school.” Colter said Huge Regards For Huskers “Nebraska program has so much tradition. Nebraska just played in the Big 12 Championship game they are definitely headed in the right direction.” says Colter. “My dad played football at Colorado he knows about Nebraska and has lots of respect for them. Nebraska has a great fan base they don’t have a NFL team out there. Just die hard Nebraska fans.” “I’ve haven’t been able to make it out there (Nebraska). I’m going to make a trip out there in January hopefully, see how it goes. I know the College Football Convention is coming up and Nebraska don’t want trips coming up that weekend.” Colter said Waiting For Visit Date “Right now Nebraska can call me once a week and I talked to Coach Watson just before the bowl game. Coach Watson said he heard that I de-committed and once they get off the dead period he will contact me and set up a visit. I know I haven’t talked to Coach (Bo) Pelini because he has been traveling with Ndamukong Suh with awards ceremonies. So were waiting on him.” Colter said “It sounds like to me that I have an offer but I haven’t received the papers yet, I don’t want to speak too soon. I think the offer is coming pretty soon I’m going to talk to Coach Watson if it’s coming soon.” Colter said The Gabbert Factor Again “Nebraska said they are recruiting two quarterbacks it’s me and some kid from Florida. That’s who they are pursuing right now.” Colter added TCU Has Tailed Back A Little “They (TCU) are playing in the Fiesta Bowl and headed in the right direction. Coach Fuente came out right before break he was talking about how they needed a quarterback and I fit in the spread offense.” Colter said “I heard TCU just got a quarterback so I don’t know how that would influence me. I haven’t talked with him (Fuenete) so I don’t know how things are going with that program now.” Colter said Stanford De-Commit Situation “The admissions staff at Stanford was really hard," says Colter. “They kind of wanted to wait until after my first semester to official admit me into the school. I wouldn’t want that I’ll kind of be left out in the open. It was disappointing because I had to turn down other schools that were coming in.” “Our first semester isn’t until the end of January. We take finals after winter break. By then signing date is a week or two away.” Colter said “I’ve talked to Cal but they want me to play defensive back. I’ve sent my tape to Oregon I haven’t heard back from them it’s early yet.” Colter said Play Early Or Not “I have to decide how big playing early is important to me or maybe I might have to redshirt. I want to play quarterback but I’m not going to be dumb about it, I just want a shot if somehow I don’t fit into that (QB) position then I will play somewhere else.” Colter said “Coaches recognized that I’m dynamic I can go under center, drop back or throw some shot gun. I can break the pocket and make plays with my feet and stand there and throw.” Colter said
  23. I like the Wild Cob and it has been mentioned on this board prior by me and others. The Maize also is pretty cool. I do believe we ran it as The Joker last year with Lucky as has been mentioned. Wild Cob, from fan perspective, seems like it would really stick because everyone now knows what the WildCat is...I say Wild Cob!
