  1. This was a pretty good game but Oregon to me just relies too much on their offense to be able to always outscore their opponents. Like an NBA team that thinks they can win by shooting every time before 10 seconds on the 24 second clock. When their offense can exploit a weakness (like vs. USC), they look unstoppable. But Ohio State has a good defense so once Oregon could not get their offense going they way they wanted, then they were doomed. The time of possession is ridiculous...you don't think Oregon's defense gets worn down after awhile? I have never been impressed by Oregon's defense as that is not the focus of what they do. Ohio State played a very balanced game and did not give Oregon chance to put up cheap/fast points...so Ohio State wins that game every time.
  2. Again LSU with poor clock management at the end of the game. A bit surprised LSU lost this one. Is it just me or is LSU starting to look like Florida-lite? They get a lot of good athletes and compete with Florida for skill players...but they don't seem disciplined and look like a wannabe-be / poor man's Florida at times to me. LSU gets sloppy at times. Wiithout Pelini, their defense is not as formidable as prior years. We should be wise to take top recruits from Louisiana with our connections there. Would not be surprised if Miles is not there in 2 years.
  3. Not too surprised Florida crushed Cincy. I have seen Cincy a bit this year. Not as fast as you'd think and while they can score they get scored on. Tebow torched them. Florida has too many weapons...Cincy was outgunned on all sides. Not having Kelly added insult to injury but they don't win with Kelly anyway. I think we could take Cincy.
  4. I like this kid. Definitely makes tacklers miss. Need him here as WR and punt returner. When is he making his decision?
  5. This kid looks like he could be a hybrid stud in our defense. Pelini's would definitely get the most out of him...I am intrigued. Hopefully he reconsiders and gives us a serious look.
  6. Merry Christmas! And Happy Holiday (Bowl win for NU)!
  7. Still would like to get him to come here. I think it is a good bet we will play better defense than Oregon for many years to come. Oregon is known for high powered offenses...defense is second fiddle there.
  8. The Husker Journal article earlier this month said we didn't recruit him as hard as AZ...figured we would likely not get him at that point. Good luck to him...hopefully we have another good target.
  9. I don't think ESPN hates McCoy...that is over the top. All 5 candidates were worthy and it was good to see such a close race. I thought it was likely going to be one of the RB's. My take: Tebow - knew he would be fifth, already had won it and once he lost SEC Championship game did not see him winning again. Did he win any other major awards? Suh - darkhorse because of the whole "defensive player" thing. He cleaned up on the defensive awards so if defensive player was going to get it, this was going to be the guy. I think ultimately our 4 losses hurt him (and also hurt Gerhart as his team had 4 losses). McCoy - I didn't think he deserved it but thought he could get it as sort of a 4 year culmination of everything he accomplished at Texas...glad this did not happen because it really should be about the most outstanding for each year and not a lifetime achievement award. Gerhart - probably deserved it...his team's 4 losses hurt him. Ingram - not against him getting it...a close winner which seemed reasonable...I don't think he gets it if Alabama was not undefeated this year and #1. That gave him the edge needed to win this year. Obviously the "what have you done for me lately" factor played huge. Ingram played horribly against Auburn while McCoy played his best game against Texas A&M. Those games were forgotten the next week when Ingram played huge to upset Florida (defending champs ranked #1) while we made McCoy look pedestrian (voters wondering why couldn't McCoy do anything against a 4 loss NU ranked #22)...plus he needed refs to bail him out of what would have been a devastating play to end 4 years on. Robert Smith on ESPN News did not think Ingram deserved it. One thing he did say which made me go "wow, I would have never thunk it"....Gerhart in the Pac-10 played against 5 teams ranked in top 40 for rush defense while Ingram in the SEC only played against one (Florida). Thought that was a shocking stat and puts Gerhart above Ingram for me. Good race this year!
  10. http://kcsp.stats.com/multisport/story.asp...171156290000101 Staying at Stanford. No surprise to me at all. Harbaugh is the type of guy to do this to get more $$$ out of Stanford. Looks like maybe that is what happened? Stanford job > KU job...would have been surprised if he took KU.
  11. 30? No exaggeration? Wow! There's a new Sharrif in town... Haha, I'm funny. Get it? New Sharrif in town. I love it. That is Suh-weeeeeeeet! Dorsey, Suh, this guy could be next. Would be great to get him.
  12. From Husker Journal. Wow...lots can change in 48 hours... DECEMBER 7 2009. MESSAGE BOARDS TYLER GABBERT, QB, 6-0, 200, BALLWIN (PARKWAY WEST), MISSOURI Still A Husker “I’m going to Nebraska I’m solid with them.” Gabbert said, “I went to the Kansas State game it was awesome, the game was great. I met everyone on the staff, academics and I met the players on the team after the game. It was a real good visit.” “My host was Mike Mc Neil we went to Blake Lawrence’s house and met some football guys over there. I got to know Chase Rome he’s a cool guy.” Gabbert said Gabbert Bonds With NU Coach “I met with Shawn Watson he’s my primary recruiter and spent a lot of time with him. We talked about the whole deal, the program and what he plans to do with me and everything. Watson is a top of line coach and one of the best offensive coordinators in the country.” Gabbert said “We (Watson) talked about (it) a little bit but they know I’m coming to Nebraska. They don’t believe all that stuff on the internet.” Gabbert said about rumors on the internet about de-committing “My mom went with me to Nebraska she loved it too. She had a chance to hang out with the team.” Gabbert added Prize Recruit Also Enjoyed NU Trip “I talked to Owa (Odighizuwa) quite a bit he’s real nice. He definitely liked Nebraska. He told me everything was great at Nebraska.” Gabbert said “I met with Coach Tom Osborne. He’s really up to date on everything. He checked on my season, we talked football and the program, just a great personal conversation.” Gabbert said
  13. For what it's worth, I think I pegged this guy pretty much right. Husker Journal: DECEMBER 9 2009. MESSAGE BOARDS CURTIS CARTER, ATH, 5-10, 170, 4.4, STONEWALL (NORTH DE SOTO), LOUISIANA Carter De-Commits “The more I think about it (NU Commitment) distance bothers me. At first when I first visited Nebraska was fine as time went by it was reality that I will be far away from home with my family. That was kind of a big deal to me.” Carter said “Nebraska now kind of runs the ball a lot they recruited me as a slot receiver. Also it’s a comfort thing I only took one trip I don’t have it (NU Visit) to compare it with.” Carter said Show Me Now “Nebraska’s offense kind of bothers me a little bit.” Carter said, “I talked it over with Coach J P (Papuchis) my recruiting coach. He understood where I was coming from. I’m still committed but I have second thoughts. Coach Gilmore, I sat down with him on my recruiting visit how they would use me but I would like to see it first hand, like now.” Missouri Visit “I’m going to Missouri on Friday,” Carter said, “That’s a big recruiting day they are going to have a lot of guys there. I’ve haven’t set anything official yet with TCU but I’m going to talk with the coaches.” Carter said ‘Missouri chucks the ball around man if you want to play receiver that’s the school to go too. Like I say they (Missouri) spread out the ball a lot, a lot of different guys, different formations. I have early playing time coming in at Missouri and the staff is great.” Carter said “I hear from Coach Odom (Missouri) a lot even when I committed to Nebraska we still talked and stuff like that.” Carter added TCU In The Running “TCU attracts me it’s close to home only three and a half hours away. TCU is good they are good. The receiver coach (Burns) is a real nice guy he’s been on me since day one.” Carter said Carter said he is only looking at Nebraska, Missouri and TCU as his college choices
  14. At least we can look forward to pummeling a Gabbert for the next 5 years. Family has 0 class. How do you know they family has 0 class. The only reason Blaine decommitted was because our coach was fired and he thought watson was going to be gone. Tyler has not decommitted yet just because there is rumors out there about it doesnt make them true. If he does decommitt it will because Watson has told him that he will not be here the whole time he is here. Watson is the reason he is coming here and if you know your position coach is gone why would you still want to come to the school? I love husker football but I really hate it when people speak about other people with out knowing what they are talking about. I was trying to give this family the benefit of the doubt, but I'll tell you why they have no class. After all we went through with Blaine, if I am that kid's dad I make damn sure Tyler is solid to NU before committing. An actual classy person would make certain there was no potential for a de-commit in this situation knowing the prior history. He didn't need to commit when he did, he could have waited to see how the season played out and see how our offense was doing. He always had MU in his back pocket and had no need to commit early. But instead he commits, wastes our time, and clogs up a QB recruit spot while other QB targets of ours go elsewhere. Then he jets as soon as his friend CC bails. It is really difficult to "keep it classy" when you are dealing with weasels like this. Good riddance.
  15. I am thinking it will be Kelly at ND. Who else are they even looking at? http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/colle...0,4398093.story
  16. Definitely use McNeill. I was dumbfounded we did not use TE's to pass to vs. TX. A lot is going to come down to can we protect the QB...if so, Lee or Green will be able to complete some passes and get the ball moving. Look at battle of our O-Line vs. their D-Line early and I think you will have good indication of how game will go. Our O-Line needs to show up big in this game...will set the tone for what we can do on offense.
  17. Here's my take on this. Would have loved to have CC but if he doesn't see himself fitting here, then let him go and get someone that does fit here. The deal is that I am at the point where I want persons that can see themselves winning with us and what we are doing. If we align everything into a team focus and winning, then the rest is gravy, the accolades will come, and so will getting a shot at the next stage. We just need to win. You win here and you are legend. That is not the case at MU and KU. Yes, we eventually need to get playmakers like we all believe CC can be so that hurts in that if we don't get the playmakers we still will have limits on potential. I am looking for players that put winning first and know everything else follows. Tebow knows this. We have guys that know this. I think Burkhead is a guy who knows this. CC? Not so sure. Is he putting emphasis with MU because he really thinks they are going to compete for the big time...or does he see MU or TCU as stop to get to next level? Been there, done that...how is that workin' for ya? On one hand I am not criticizing the guy for believing we didn't align with what he wanted to do (so be it and go find the school where you fit)...but I would not really be surprised if he is putting self-interest above all (instead off committing to a program that he knows he can help to win). Play to win and it all comes together. We have the luxury now of finding top guys that will get this on the defensive side of the ball. You really think Pelini is going to be too interested in guys that want to come now based on self-interest to get to next level? Sure, there will be some incredible talent that he will take because he believes he will mold them to the team focus. What we really need is those breakthrough guys that can commit to the offense because they know they can contribute to win. I see Burkhead as one of those guys, OT Moore in next year's class, we shall see with Aaron Green also. CC? Not so sure this guy ever had it.
  18. Throw Da Bones for Suh! When is this guy going to practice for AZ? He is picking up all his awards!
  19. I have been waiting for the Wild Cob all year! Hope we see it in the Holiday Bowl!
  20. as if that didn't happen the way that it did go down? Ding. Ding. Ding. We have a winner!
  21. Larry Porter has taken the head coach job at Memphis. I like Chow but don't see him as fit here. Illinois? No thank you. Ianello should get interviewed...great recruiter and the offense was not the issue at ND. This guy has worked well with skill players and could get some top QB's, RB's, and WR's in here to play. He'd be on my list.
  22. I haven't commented a lot on Watson. For the most part I think he will be back as breaking in a new QB and having some injuries on the offense did not help him. But I also agree that he hasn't shown progress with the offense. The QB play, O-Line, and WR's have not gotten it going. If the bowl game is ugly on offense, the heat could be turned up just enough. If we perform well on offense in the bowl game, I think there is no chance he is gone. A lot is riding on the offensive performance in the bowl game. We have time to prepare and be ready to show improvement. Since this is Rumorville, I do like the idea of bringing back Gill and Frost. Gill as OC and asst. head coach and Frost as WR's coach or similar to what his role is at Oregon. Yes, this is a bit crazy but hear me out...Nebraska is a special place and I think if we wanted this done, TO could be the difference. Gill would be obvious successor as AD. Gill has no ego whatsoever so if someone was going to go from head coach to OC/asst. head coach this would be the guy, IMO Nebraska OC/asst. head coach > Buffalo head coach. Plus I think he would be lined up for AD and be back in an environment that knows and loves him. And Frost would be in great position as well coming back to coach the beloved Huskers. This would definitely be a jolt to the fanbase who I think would love this if this were to happen.
  23. Our offense needs to get it together and put scores up. If Lee is not doing it, I fully expect to see Green prepared and in the game. Our defense needs to show up big and play lights out because they will be hyped to do so (a lot of us assume that will be automatic and we can not have a let down). Arizona has a good defense. You don't think they will want to take the game over and show what defense they can play under Stoops? It will not be easy to score on them. That is what has me concerned that we can keep play great D and hold AZ down on offense but a score here, a FG there, and a bad turnover, etc. and AZ has 17-20 points...can we get over 20 pts. in this game? This one should be good...usually the Holiday Bowl is a shootout but we may have a tight one throughout with the defenses...will come down to who can execute the timely score. Thus, our offense must get it going for this game.
  24. I like our chances also. Carter is a key recruit. We need him on offense and returning punts. His dad knows what he is talking about.
