  1. It may sound odd, but I feel more confident about this game with Riley than I was when the season was ending with Pelini. The secret was out on how to bust Pelini's defense, and with Hill back, they were very well suited to do it.
  2. 3rd highest stipend with the 2nd lowest cost to in-state and out-of-state kids..? School cost does not matter, I'm not sure why they included it on that chart. The term is "Total Cost of Attendance" so what that number is indicating is that living in Lincoln is a bit more expensive than many of those other cities.
  3. Wants to come home? That's insane. No way he will ever live in the U.S. as a free man. He'll end up spending the rest of his life behind bars. You just don't screw over the NSA like he did, then come back to talk about it. What??? He doesn't want to spend the rest of his life in a country with as open and honest of government like Russia that doesn't do any spying or espionage? True dat. But his options are somewhat limited at this point. LOL Though he is much safer with how much media coverage he would demand. And countries without extradition are not really that safe for him. And a conviction is far from guaranteed if he does return.
  4. His whole visit is nothing but politics. GOP is pandering and warmongering, and Netanyahu is in an election cycle himself.
  5. I think the main point that is trying to be made is that a QB who is a passer first, who can move and run if needed is what is desired. What we have been trying to do for too long is drop a great athlete into the QB position and try to teach them to throw. That is a high school mentality. (Does make sense, our last OC was a former high school head coach) Being able to run is always a good thing to have, but a QB needs to be able to throw the ball accurately in this era of college football if you really want to win at a high level.
  6. I'll answer the door, but leave the screen door closed. The somewhat agitated one hundred pound German Shepard standing next to me does tend to make most conversations as short as I want them.
  7. I honestly think the way Pelini managed them twisted it from what it was intended. Hand them out before the season, and get some of those graphics featuring them, or even go old school and make posters. They are an identity, not a prize. Though the way Pelini handled his starters sometimes didn't help either. Now as far as the history goes, before the switch to the 4-3, the defense was pretty average. Not the total intimidation machine they were in the '90's or with Suh. Getting back to basics is a good place to start.
  8. A lot of the guys listed are just not back to full strength after the injuries suffered last year. Some of them take 9 months or more to come back from. Overall, given this is spring ball, it looks pretty normal. I would be more concerned if this was fall camp.
  9. So, instead of trying to actually debate me, you are changing the subject. Pretty typical when your argument has been soundly defeated.
  10. In what fantasy world are you coming up with this? Google is going to continue to expand. Verizon stopped expanding FiOS quite a while back as it was not benefiting their stock prices. Same with AT&T UVerse. And what competition are you imagining exists today? If we had anyone in office with the balls of Teddy Roosevelt the telecoms would be charged with collusion and being a monopoly. Seriously, watch the John Oliver segment. You will learn something. You want to know why AT&T didn't implement new tech? BECAUSE THEY WERE A MONOPOLY. It had nothing to do with the gov or FCC and everything to do with why would they spend money that they were not legally required to. When the bell system got broken up is when we started to have true innovation. The FCC does not block innovation. In fact they are pushing more in that they redefined "broadband" as 25/5. Which is a speed most of the land in this state does not have access to. This change will drive innovation, and spur competition, not limit it. These rules make it easier for a company to expand into another area, not harder. Care to actually think about why they are reclassifying broadband as a utility? What are the other utilities? Electricity, gas, water, and phone. They fall under a more strict governmental oversight because of their intrinsic importance to the citizens. The 'cost controls' that Ted Cruz and his bought and paid for ilk are using as scare tactics are not price controls the way they are spinning them. "Reasonable" is the term that is typically used. Its what an electric company can't decide to quadruple rates just to spike earnings and profits. They have a captive audience, and the service provided is critical or living in the modern world. And the internet has become almost as intertwined. For many, its more important than the phone. When a cable bundle in northern Arizona was cut last week, the northern part of the state lost the ability to even conduct business. Unless you already had cash in your wallet, you could not buy anything.
  11. Ok, first off the government controls no information over any medium. Over the air broadcasts are not even controlled, though they do have certain standards they are to adhere to as the stations lease the band from the government. And there is zero control over cable networks. As the FCC has to endlessly remind people when they file complaints over content for something like the MTV music awards. Now, without new neutrality, the monopolies would have direct control over what you have access to. Say Comcast decides to get all puritanical, they could throttle porn or atheist websites down to be unusable. That can not happen now, but it very well could without net neutrality. Nothing about Broadband Internet being classified as a utility has any form of connection to what is on a website, who hosts or creates it in any way, shape, or form. Your understanding of what the internet is and how if functions is more than a little uninformed. And none of this changes. What this means is you will actually notice, wait for it, absolutely nothing. The internet will continue on exactly how it has always has. What it prevents is greedy monopolies from having control over what you will see on the web. Without net neutrality we would not have Netflix or Youtube, or Pandora, or any streaming video at all when you really want to get down to it. Our internet sucks compared to the rest of the developed world. What we get, for what we pay for, lags so far behind, its not even funny. And there are plenty of places that still do not have access to true broadband internet. They won't in fact when the definition changes the minimum speeds needed to be called broadband or high speed. And many people have no options on internet choices, they have whichever monopoly controls their town. News Flash. You already pay taxes on your web access, go read your bill. If you want to discuss tax usage, that is for another thread. News Flash. The NSA already monitors the internet. News Flash. The First Amendment still applies to the internet in this country. And lastly THERE IS NOT GOING TO BE ANY CENSORSHIP OF THE INTERNET WITH NET NEUTRALITY BEING ENFORCED! Get this BS out of your head, leave your bunker, turn off Fox News and stop listening to people who stand to make a mountain of money if net neutrality dies.
  12. Armstrong has shown flashed of being able to be very, very good. The issue has been consistency. Hell, that has been the issue across the board with Pelini teams in general. And like any of our QBs, he shows break downs in his mechanics. It is possible that with some actual QB coaching he will be able to get the job done. He has shown to be a gamer, and by any account he has the intangibles. With a coherent offense, good QB coaching, we may be just fine this year.
  13. I wouldn't take anything Ganz said as a shot. The sentiment was that if Stanton was getting more reps through the season in practice he would have closed the gap.
  14. I really want to see this guy play. I know this sounds stupid since never saw any action, but just warming up before games he looks like a natural college quarterback. The guy just looks smooth, kind of reminds me of Cam Newton. Doesn't anyone think Ryker Fyfe will be in the mix somewhere? He's taken the next most snaps, hasn't he? He's not the hot name though. Just from listening to a few things Ganz said on the radio makes me think the top 3 are going to be Armstong, Bush and Fyfe. Stanton has the big name, but I remember Ganz saying something to the effect he takes more study time with the playbook to get it down that the other guys do. Which I think will hurt him learning a whole new system. Armstrong has the game experience, and sounds like he just about lives in the football facility. And Bush is the one that seems to have more buzz than anyone else from people who have watched practice.
  15. All of the politicians need to be wary about trying to legislate against Net Neutrality also. Thus far the tech companies have held back the 'nuclear option' which could swing elections over this issue. Google, Twitter, Apple, Amazon, Netflix and many others have so far not gone into a full court press over the issue. As they have the means to be in front of more eyes than any amount of money the telecoms could spend. The comments to the FCC were about 99% in favor of Net Neutrality. This is something that transcends any party line.
  16. You don't want to live in a county without Net Neutrality. Your Local Telecom Monopoly would get absolute control over what you can see on the internet, and they would be defacto gatekeepers of all new businesses that would have a web focus.
  17. However it IS only one side arguing that the internet should be fundamentally changed to whatever travesty of dystopian future world the telecoms want to create. The Telco guy just pissed off the industry he used to work for.
  18. Yet a lot of the time it was Abdullah after he had a long run and we know how hard of a worker he is. I don't see a problem with this if you have suitable backups. If you watch any football - college or pro - it happens all the time. Best explanation for this I heard was a hockey analogy: you put your guys in, you expect them to go like hell for a play or two, then switch them out for fresh legs. Run a couple plays and switch again. Lather, rinse, repeat. The theory being that your guys would be fresher at the end of the game as a result. Not sure how well it worked, but that was the theory. Seems any lack of success was more a culture issue than S&C's fault. Dobson has been a punching bag here for a while. But I've never seen any hard data backing that up. The culture part is probably the most accurate. S&C generally works with the head coach for the total plan. And Dobson did have good reviews coming in. If I'm making bets, there was the same year to year inconsistency with the plan and vision. The position coaches didn't always seem to have a clear idea how to meld with the coordinators, so it would not be shocking to see a similar disconect between coaches and S&C. If they are not on the same page, they guys won't get built up the way should be.
  19. Separate but related thoughts. Hence the 'both' Second sentence was overarching theory.
  20. I don't think there is a ton of disagreement that the current codes are a clusterF. But the replacement ideas have tended to be worse than what we have now.
  21. That chart is very telling. Particularly when turn over margin tends to be one of the most critical stats in the outcome of games. Getting a win when -2 in a game is very much against the odds.
  22. Look at the parts of the article where they are compared to other states, Wisconsin in particular. Minnesota is pathing better than states with Conservative Govs. There is a lot of evidence that the economy does better when the policies in place are higher taxes on the wealthy and more money to the masses. Both are simply backing up Econ 101.
  23. I have said many times in this thread. Tax the owners, stock holders, employees (including upper management). Tax people who gain benefit from the corporation. You can't just stop taxing corporations without major tax reform in other areas. And...as for Obama's proposal and what the GOP did. I don't remember that but it doesn't surprise me. I've made it pretty clear on this board I believe the GOP is a bunch of idiots. It kills me that politicians still try to sell surgical tax change at this point. Corporate & individual tax codes need to be thrown out. It's patch upon patch creating "rat's nest" scenario. The complexity is more damaging to business than the tax rate, imo. You are not seriously on the "consumption tax" bandwagon? Because those are your options. And consumption taxes are the most regressive form of taxation in existence.
