  1. It's not that Paul Johnson runs out of the flexbone formation and triple option all the time, but it's those last three words, "ALL THE TIME". If you're philosophy is 80 to 90% run orientated, it's a recipe for failure. As great as you can become, unless you have Tommie Frazier or Tom Brady(if it's passing), a good defense can and will stop you. Balance on offense is the key to winning the big important games. If you remember correctly, the "Big Red Machine" of the early 80's was a more balanced offense, 65-35 or even less. So don't say Osborne ran all the time, the 90's were different because of Frazier.
  2. scouting maybe. but, being as lazy as i am, if i was getting paid nonetheless, i'd sit around on my ass and do nothing.
  3. i bet turner would be willing to roll with a WC type offense since he was an assistant under callahan for a year. i don't know if that'd be his philosophy if he was the lone OC but if Watson was there, they could definitely run that. it'd definitely be easier for the kind of personnel that we have.
  4. I think being at Nebraska, not Bill Callahan's Nebraska, would give Turner Gill all the motivation in the world to come back. I honestly think Frank Solich would probably come back, but it would obviously take a little more time for him to get over what happened.
  5. 2 things on that. 1. That job isnt open yet. 2. I thought Norvell was going to be a top choice if Dorell was fired which is why he left. Anyone else heard anything on this? Yes you are correct but I live next door to a avid Bruins alum who seems to know the dirt on his team. He has heard that things are not so great with the Bruins HC and has heard from his "sources" that Leach is wanted there. Take it for what it's worth. Besides, Norvell has ZERO experience and the "playstation offense" that Mike Leach runs is wanted in UCLA. Again 3rd hand info on my part. Playstation offense...good for about one good win and one horrible loss a year.
  6. So you don't think Monte would bring in a great staff then? I don't think Monte leaves a great situation to come to a bad one, considering he can pretty much leave(retire) under his own terms.
  7. you should admire his courage in not jumping the gun on the decision. with everything else (current players, recruiting, etc.) at stake, the bottom could've fell through on the whole thing. he gave callahan the guidelines, all that he had to do was meet them. this was handled with the utmost care and TO was correct in doing that.
  8. the wins we did have we're definitely the games that were predicted easy wins for the 'skers. i guess you could have gone back and forth with wake, but it wasn't like we couldn't win that game.
  9. hopefully they get in the training room, and get back to explosive speed and quickness, reckless abandonment that we're used to from the blackshirts! GBR!!!!!!
  10. even though it seemed as though Callahan and TO didn't have the best relationship, i bet Cally was glad that he got his pink slip from someone like Tom Osborne. it's never easy to get fired, but with someone like TO, i bet he took it a little easier.
  11. There are a few out there from what I heard on the post game call in show last night , but the overwhelming majority agree that BC needed to go. We have lost far too many records and traditions for him to stay any longer. I feel bad for BC but I dont see things getting any better in the future with him at the helm. We have become a joke. It is time to bring someone in that knows what Husker football is all about and someone that can motivate and get the most out of our players. It will be interesting to see who we get to take over in the next week or two. GBR! not just a joke, but pitied. Mark May hates the crap out of Nebraska it seems, and whenever they(ESPN) bring up Nebraska, it seems like it hurts them that they suck. they understand tradition. it's kind of the same way with Notre Dame, Miami, Florida State, Penn State, etc. even though they can't get their stupid bias out of their heads(which makes them horrible journalists) but at least they love college football enough to love everyone's traditions.
  12. it's a big job, you have to admit that. but, if we became good, would we be fairweather fans of the basketball team, just like USC football fans, or even Red Sox baseball?
  13. no choice...when there is going to be a projected 15-20 jobs open this year, you can't wait to make that decision. the christmas shopping season starts earlier every year, but you think that waiting until after a bowl game would be good? the good toys will all be gone.
  14. what does need to start clean mean? does he have hepatitis or something? i believe that it has been stated that Watson has developed a good or even a great relationship with TO and even though it's up to the next HC, he likes Watson and would recommend he stick around. i wouldn't mind having a new offense, as long as it's Shotgun Spread and not Barney Cotton, but keeping Watson around helps the short term because of the transition that's gonna go down. you all have to remember. it wasn't the offense that was terrible this year. in fact, the offense is what gave all the Cally supporters their only evidence to keep him.
  15. A simpler offense does give a more athletic, less seasoned QB to excel, but wouldn't you think a dumb downed offense can give a guy like Ganz a lift as well? He's smart enough to know the reads of such a complicated system like WCO, a simpler offense and a savvy leader should be unstoppable. But of course, which way do you go, athleticism with a guy who might not make the best decisions or a decision making leader who has enough mobility to give the team a chance?
  16. isn't this kind of a GREAT reason to keep Watson around at least?
  17. Monte Kiffin was one of the creators of the famed Tampa 2 coverage. You wanna know something? That's the SAME FRICKIN SCHEME Bo Pelini uses. All the people griping about the best candidates out there are just worried about staying mediocre. The ex-coaching staff has just made everyone gun-shy about this. Don't be cynical people. We've got Tom Osborne at the controls. ...Shouldn't you expect a one-dimensional running team to be good at it? Arkansas imposed their will on LSU. It set the tone for the entire game. You can't defend Pelini on that. ...Tom Osborne wasn't just a good coach because he knew the x's and o's, and what have you. It was because he delegated roles to people who were good at their jobs and made them love to work with him. If whoever comes in, brings in a great staff, it'll all be cherry. Which is why I like Pelini, in that I trust him more to bring in a great staff.
  18. It's corny, cheesy, and pretty lame, but don't tell me that you don't get goosebumps because of the play-by-play calls Gus Johnson makes. Ringtones
  19. you have to remember that Nick Saban coached in the Big 10 before he went to LSU (Michigan St.). Some would argue that the Big 10 was harder back then, but he didn't become elite until he got to the SEC and the better talent that comes with it. Just something to consider...
  20. We're almost there, gang. Solich couldn't recruit and Callahan can't develop. We get both those things with one guy, we'll be there FINALLY!
  21. interim head coach Shawn Watson has a nice ring to it.
