  1. One of the members of C.R.A.B.S. has graciously offered to host a game watch party at his home in Crofton, MD. Please PM me on this board for details.
  2. I like the article, but disagree on a couple of his choices... ND? We OWNED that stadium in 2000. How fickle can you be when you can be BOUGHT OUT of a home game? Penn State. I've experienced this first hand, and while I was impressed by 100K Yelling "WE ARE" (left side of the staduim), "PENN STATE" (right side of the stadium), our group was physically abused and assaulted by fans - mostly drunken students. We were spit on, shoved (pre-game), and harrassed as we went back to our tailgate area after our boys had their assess handed to them. Also, how about the F**K Nebraska t-shirts handed out to students as they entered the stadium through their gate. Now THAT'S family entertainment. When your head coach has to publicly apologize for the actions of his fans, you don't belong on a top 10 "best" list.
  3. 1957 - 1975. We hardly ever played Wray in any sports because you were always about twice the size of us, even when we were a REAL C3 school. Now we're barely hangin' on to being able to play 11-man football, but the addition of Stratton this year will help. In the meantime, our old rivalries - Imperial, Grant, and Cambridge have gotten bigger and bigger and are out of our class now.
  4. C-O-N-T-E-X-T dammit! (I had to reread his post because I thought he had called his school TITS-U!) Run along, little boy
  5. I don't know where you got that. They return 15 from last year (more than we do), and as many as 20 5th year seniors and 4th year juniors. Also, last year's deer-in-the-headlights freshman QB now has a season under his belt, INCLUDING playing in a BCS bowl game. ACC Rookie of the Year. Their weak spot is the secondary, which lost the most to graduation. Their strengths are their kicking game (all ACC) and the DL. Last year was a fluke, as everything Grobe had done pointed to THIS year being their year. Let's hope it doesn't start with a win over us. Nailbiter all the way. 20-17 Big Red
  6. I say the #1 Husker fan club outside of the state isn't in one particular place, but has one thing in common - they wear the military uniform of the United States. Not just on any given Saturday (or Sunday, depending on what weird time zone you are in), but 24/7, 365 they represent the best the state has to offer, and bleed Scarlet and Cream. After leaving Benkelman HS (now Dundy County-Stratton) and going straight into the Navy, I either formed or joined mini Husker fan clubs in Maryland, West Texas, Cyprus, Spain, Greece, Crete, Scotland, Lebanon, Iraq, and Egypt, and on numerous afloat mini-cities. I remember getting special permission to keep the base club in Spain open late on 1/1/84 to watch Tom go for two and the outright championship. I hated sub duty during football season because we were sooo out of touch, but the weekly "fam-gram" from the wife would always included the last score. Surface ships weren't so bad, and being in communications, I had access to fellow fans ashore who sometimes could pipe the audio to us, or send us semi-current game play updates over different comms systems. That is how C.R.A.B.S. began in the mid-90s when I relocated to Maryland, and began running into other military folks from Nebraska, and even some who weren't but had been stationed at Offutt and it had all rubbed off on them. We now have over 50 members on our roster. Some are retired and decided to stay in this area, like me; some are still wearing the uniform locally, and some are overseas and on ships worldwide. In today's world of real-time communications, I can send out an announcement about an upcoming game watch party and get a "have a good time" answer back from a member on an aircraft carrier the next day. So while I envy you in large fan base locations like SoCal, my vote for the largest Husker fan base outside the state goes to our military forces worldwide.
  7. this is a sick, sick board. you boys know waaay too much about squirting
  8. Everyone is looking forward to the USC game, but these guys are the defending ACC champs and have most of their prople back including as many as 10 5th-year seniors and another 10 4th-year juniors. We will definitely be represented in the stands, but this one worries me
  9. If you are in Greensboro, or want to come to Greensboro, we will be downtown around the Mariott "spreading the red". Feel free to call (301) 606-3332 to hook up and pound a few back Friday night and/or Saturday night (we don't leave until sunday)
  10. Wow. One series strikes? Or the Blackshirts run a few INTs back? My magazine sez we rarely cover ATS at home, first game when favored, but I'm going to go against them this time... UNL 41 U of N 9 (NO ENDZONE FOR YOU! (think Soup Man here)) On the ground - 171 Through the air - 311
  11. I'll take the under. Rumor has it he's a little dehydrated....
  12. I got an email notice about LTCG's visit to fall practice yesterday, but the link in the email and the link on the huskers.com page to the photo gallery doesn't work (it's empty). anyone else?
  13. As far as live video, you're screwed. what i did a couple of times last year when nothing was televised is listen to the Pinnacle Network on the computer while hooked up to espn.com or cbssportsline.com with their "live" play-by-play graphic (basically a football field with a bar showing drives, time left, etc), and text of what the last play was. Of course, they were waaaay behind the live radio feed. It was good to see stats as the game went on, though. total yards, time outs left, etc
  14. Keep 'em east, I say. I saw us play WVU at the 1994 Pigskin Classic (or was it the Kickoff Classic?) at the Meadowlands to start the championship season. 31-3 I believe the final was. Milked that one locally for years, so I need an update. Other than WVU, here's the rest of my list... Maryland (red vs red) Penn State (they are WAYYY too full of themselves, and the 40-13 thrashing in 2002 only gave them more ammo) Clemson (my fishing buddy is an alum - has an orange/white bass boat ) Alabama - two programs who have been through hard times and are bouncing back I hope Stevie P keeps scheduling east. After VaTech and Tennessee, the major non-conference schedule set up is with UCLA again.
  15. Thanks for the props, Deac. We look forward to a great game in "your house". A bunch of us from Maryland are staying at the Mariott Downtown Greensboro if you are close to that location, come out Friday night and we will buy you a beer or two - or three... or four....
  16. Not really Nebraska football related, but.... Watching the local Fox channel tonight recapping the Redskins preseason win over Tennessee, they were interviewing Al Saunders, assistant head coach for offense. Looked up only to be surprised to see him wearing a Nebraska polo with the Huskers script logo over what appeared to be a white ball of some type. Baseball? Volleyball? Softball? Nope! A little research revealed the Nebraska connection... His daughter, Kori, played soccer 1999-2002, earning 2nd team Big XII honors in 2000 and 2001. Ah ha! It was a soccer ball! Way to go Al and thanks for a little exposure here in D.C.!
  17. Mine arrived today. Section 11, Row GG, Seats 1-6 Anyone else near us? BTW, the rest of the season ticket package is being donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Winston-Salem. See the thread on this board
  18. Sorry to hear about this as he was 1/2 of the 'Husker tandem in the Carolina "D" that I loved to root for.
  19. Our group from Maryland have already booked rooms at the Mariott Greensboro Downtown for $110 a night. While 30+ miles from the stadium, the choice of local watering holes to "turn red" on Friday night (and Saturday if we are still up to it) all within 1/2 mile of the hotel was inviting. Here's a list from Google maps... 20. We had that opportunity twice last year when we statistically dominated Texas and Auburn, but all the talking heads see is the final score. Only a real fan of the sport knows we had those games won. Win those and the conversation about our program changes. I hope this is the year.
  21. They will be after they beat BC right out of the chute
  22. and issue # 10761 is getting past WF the week before. I can tell you, they are pumped after last year's successes, and bring almost everyone back from that 11-3 team. As many as 10 5th year seniors and another 10 4th year juniors in their top 22. And, most importantly, they are not worried about this game . And that, my friends, is the key to restoring the order. One game doesn't do it, although it is a great start. When an opponent dreads the fact that they scheduled you 10 years ago; when the crystal ball publications highlight an opponent's game with you as the key to their season; when we go into games like USC, UT, OU, and VaTech and Tennessee in the future with at least even odds to win, and and and and and when we actually WIN this conference again, THAT'S when the order is restored. We have 3 BCS teams on the schedule this year. Win 2 of those, and we are back. Anything less, and "restore the order" is still a dream. Tearing down the goalposts will look REAL bush league if we don't win the North/CC game and are competitive in the BCS game. One game at a time, one down at a time.
  23. Did anyone else see this on ESPN's College Football Preview show last week? So I'm maybe the last one in the world to watch it, but I bow down to my tivo. Evidently the commissioner of the conference has indicated they will expand from the current 11 to 12 teams very soon (and this morning I heard he had back-peddled some), and the talking heads on ESPN were asked by Rece Davis to throw out their top picks. Can't remember who said it - May :asshat , Herbstreit (bigger :asshat ), or another panelist - but their statement was that the Big 10 was going to do an ACC/Big East type raid on the Big XII and the likely candidates were ISU and CU. The argument for ISU was one of location and they already play Iowa every year. The argument for CU jumping didn't make any sense. Can you imagine the fan base reaction if your team were to jump from what is now a relatively weak Big XII North where you are foundering already to the "let's knock each other off" Big 10? Notre Dame is the no-brainer to make it 12 there, but they will NEVER give up their "special" status in the college football world. I would think that N. Illinois, Bowling Green, or even Frank's new team - Ohio would make better choices than raiding another BCS conference.
