  1. Damn, you're on these boards a lot now. Not that it's a bad thing. Vested interest, or has DoNU become a second favorite of yours? I don't like Minnesota and I enjoy rooting for NU as long as they're not playing UW, so a little bit of both. You guys have a fun team to be a fan of I'll give you that... Go find some threads from this board after the 2009 Big XII title game theft, and you may think otherwise.
  2. The only thing I can come up with is he was trying to make a funny at our expense. Nope--legitimate pick, and he didn't back down from it. Wouldn't say why when pressed by the others on the panel, though. Perhaps Suh is hooking him up with some Omaha Steaks? And I'm still trying to find the damn video, which I think would help explain the context and why this was a legitimate pick.
  3. http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/long-ties-to-koch-brothers-key-to-cains-campaign/2011/10/16/gIQAKTLPoL_story.html Pre-emptive strike on teajadists. The Koch Brothers make Randolph and Mortimer look like a couple of loveable, harmless grandfather-types.
  4. That, or if anything, they start an agreement to limit their non-con to where only one or two non-con games are outside of the 22 team arrangement per year. Considering a number of these schools are cannon fodder for larger BCS non-con schedules, it may benefit them in the longrun to step back and say 'no' to more non-con with these teams--short term, it will hurt financially, but it will start forcing the BCS 'haves' to play each other more for non-con, and the 'have-nots' here can build themselves up by playing each other more. And however they work this out, if they end up as a 22-team conference, there's no way in hell the BCS can say no to them getting a berth, unless they want to take it in the shorts again from the Government.
  5. Looks like Army, Navy, Air Force, SMU, and Houston are getting invites as well, per ESPN. Navy and Air Force aren't sure per the ticker, and nothing from Army, SMU, or Houston yet. I'd look for an article, but I feel like s**t and I'm the epitome of laziness this morning, so sue me.
  6. Right now, I'm more worried about Northwestern and Michigan State. Michigan I think will be easier than people are thinking, but I'm subscribing to the belief that MSU's defense is indeed what it's cracked up to be, and that Persa is starting for Northwestern.
  7. On certain weekends, BTN can/will select after ABC and before ESPN. Not sure which weekends that happens though. You're right--forgot about that. I didn't think it was predetermined weekends, though--more like a hole card the Big 10 can play X number of times a season with proper notification.
  8. Yes, for now. Fully expect that to be revisited on a case-by-case basis in the near future.
  9. *If anyone can help me with a video link, I'd appreciate it--tried to find it on the BTN site, no luck.* Was watching BTN Live last night, and the topic came up about who they would pick to win the Big 10 championship based on what has been shown at the midseason point, and while Illinois and Wisconsin (obviously) came up, Howard Griffith said Nebraska, and then gave a grin like the cat who ate the canary. With all of the mid-season distractions and problems (e.g. reporters, Crick's injuries) in spite of the new Renaissance our offense is experiencing, is it possible people are starting to believe we'll win the Big 10 on the backs of Rex, Abdullah, and Martinez, instead of Meredith, David, and Fonz? Regardless, it's nice to see that we're still thought of as being in the hunt for the Big 10 title. Something tells me that Bo and Co will use the next two bye weeks to retool our D and employ a KISS philosophy to help the new players out. That, and we'll see our second-string get lots of time @ Minnesota, which will help a great deal.
  10. I disagree. IIRC, when Braxton went out, we had shut down their passing game at that point, bottled up their inside rushing game, and our D-Line was breaking through all day--only Braxton's athleticism was keeping their drives alive at that point, and barely at that. Our offense was making significant strides and opened things up vertically after the David strip to the point where our 3RB set could do some real damage to their defense, and it showed--something like three personal fouls on those last drives by the tOSU defense shows they were getting, tired, careless, and sloppy. And against a Top 25 defense at that. And that Brokemeyer kid got a bum rap for a lot of those throws--yes, some were throwaways because we had excellent coverage, and there were a couple of errant balls. But the majority of those INTs were on the WR--the ball was catachable in many of those situations--either our D got there to disrupt, or the tOSU WR wasn't able to complete the play. That would have happened regardless. I do think that tOSU would have made it closer--perhaps by a field goal or made it an OT game, but I do believe we would have prevailed, regardless.
  11. Best guess: Clemson at Georgia Tech - 11a ABC Regional Michigan State at Nebraska - 2:30p ABC/ESPN Reverse Mirror Illinois at Penn State - 11a ABC/ESPN Reverse Mirror Oklahoma at Kansas State - 2:30p ABC Regional Assuming that DoNU and MSU are one-loss teams and both are in the Top 15 (very likely), no way they'll let us slip to the Big 10 Network. If either DoNU and/or MSU are a two-loss team, then I could see the game being passed over and slipping to the BTN.
  12. No one is disputing that Minnesota is bad this year, I think. If anything, I think there's valid concern that we have a defense this year that can make a bad offense (see tOSU) look competent. And I wouldn't be shocked to see another 84-point affair break out--our offense is getting really great, despite there being a few pieces (read: how to get the ball to our talented WRs more) to work out. The question is how many will Minnesota be able to hang on us--10...20...50?
  13. I think Crick won't take too big a hit in the draft, especially if it comes out he was playing hurt for a while this year as some folks have alluded to. He may go third or fourth round, at worst, I would think, if he can get healthy before the combines. Suh or no Suh, he did a ******g awesome job, and I'm going to miss having him on our D-Line. On a side note, this makes me all the more supportive for proposed six-to-play-five rules (since many degrees take more than four years in College nowadays). That, or perhaps a revision to a medical redshirt where it's a game-for-a-game match--you miss eight games (being positive here...) and apply for a one-time medical redshirt, you get eight back the following year?
  14. This. This is why people have been saying it's not the D-Line, it's the secondary. As soon as our secondary started covering passers in the second half, we were getting to both QBs. It just happened that we whiffed more than once on an open-field tackle when getting tOSU's first QB, and he scrambled to get a first down as a result. If Jean-Baptiste can contribute opposite Fonz and the rest of the secondary can start playing worth their level, then we'll see our D-Line getting more sacks, our LBs getting more disruptive, and the whole of our defense will improve. And no, improved secondary play is not a magic bullet--but it does give our D-Line opportunities that aren't there now because of the QB's ability to pass to an open receiver downfield.
  15. I agree. And Legate runs the ball well when called upon to do so. Reminds me a bit of Cory Schlessinger(sp), but then again, it's been a while since we had a FB, so perhaps that's just nostalgia talking.
  16. Problem is, Knapplc, the field goal attempt should not have happened in the first place, figuratively or literally. Unless Beebe has a window seat at Texas, I would think that Beebe's press bites are burning bridges and making himself undesirable to obtain a similar position in another conference in the future. So why would someone willingly do that to themselves?
  17. You have to read the whole article to find that Texas and Oklahoma also said "no to revenue sharing" but the article has in skewed to be all Nebraska with the large quote next to the article. ESPN is trying to spin everything to make Texas more appealing. ESPN is in bed with Texas on the Longhorn Network deal they have going with them. Which is struggling as a lot of cable and satellite providers are not picking it up. And those outlets which do carry it aren't seeing a lot of traffic/ratings on the network. As a matter of principle, I have the channel parental blocked so we won't give those vermin even one second of accidental viewing time when flipping.

  19. I like how while he publicly castigated the writer, he just rewarded all of the other media folks with exclusive 1 on 1 access. Carrot and stick, stick and carrot. While Bo does have valid points, it would help his cause if he took a page out of Spurier's book and gave carrots to the good media boys and girls, and saved the stick for when he really needs to call a writer out.
  20. http://eye-on-collegefootball.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/24156338/32641693 Thought this was an interesting link that shows on a state-by-state basis who is ranking Nebraska and where (over, under, even) compared to their final average. Of note--the entire Big XII is underranking Nebraska currently. Also, of note--certain Big 10 states who have undefeated teams that may play Nebraska in the future are over-ranking us according to the map; specifically, Wisconsin and Illinois. Take that for what you will.
  21. Oh Gawd, the 2009 VT game was a gutpunch I'd like to forget. If the tOSU folks think they had it bad, they should stop down and watch this game.
  22. Well the Tea Party has its own faults and while it may not be full of homeless hippies the accusations that its populated by aren't entirely without merit. In 2009 I attended an early Tea Party rally in SC. Tons of confederate flags, lots of thinly veiled racism and very little substantive discussion of policy, I was less than impressed. But really...what can you expect from a movement started by Neal Boortz and Glenn Beck then astroturfed by the Koch Brothers? That's the biggest difference right now--there's no astroturfing going on with the 99ers (that has been uncovered yet). And not only do you have the montage from the Daily Show showing the hypocrisy in covering this event, you now have outlets like CNBC, CNN, and local Fox affiliates (the one in Dallas, at any rate) covering the events with copious amounts of exposition and unwanted unwarranted editorial. And if the online coverage/proof is to be believed, there is a deliberate effort to underreport the numbers associated with the movement, while the opposite was playing out on News Corp-friendly outlets (deliberate over-reporting of attendance figures for Tea Party events, despite proof to the contrary). Plus, remember that people didn't really know what the Tea Party was wanting in its infancy as well. The only things that were clear at the beginning were that a centralized government was anathema to Tea Party beliefs, while a centralized religious authority and thinly-veiled racism were not.
  23. Fixed for the 95% of us posting that haven't succumbed to bifocals...yet.
