  1. ESPN is and has been firmly lodged in Texas' colorectal system, as well as the collective recti (made-up word ) of the SEC. What's funny is that the Big 1210 schools think they'll get SEC money ($20 million/yr.), when they don't even have enough quality teams or media market size to beat the ACC, who signed a deal with ESPN to get approx. $15.5 million/school. Frankly, the Big 1210 will be lucky to net $14 million/school, which will be better than now, but it will pale in comparison to the projected $22-23 million of the SEC and $23-24 million of the Big 10. Plus, everyone keeps talking as if Fox (not just Fox Sports, but the broadcast channel Fox) is using their Pac-12 and Big 10 championship game victories to propel them into discussions when the Pac-12 and Big 10 ESPN/ABC contracts are over in two/three years. Fox is looking to invest in College football, as it's strike-proof (unlike the NFL) and they can better leverage their Fox Sports and Big 10 Network channel assets for experienced college football analysts. ESPN is throwing out bags of money now to schools like Texas to get their foot in the door. So when (not if) Texas goes independent, Mickey may be doing battle with Media Corp. for TV rights, but it won't get nasty (read: expensive) like it will with the Pac-12/Big 10 battles looming because ESPN can leverage an existing asset (BevoTV) to keep costs down.
  2. *raises hand* Actually, they don't do too bad a job on the network. Better than some, worse than some others. All in all, as long as Nebraska gets more air time for its sports, there's little to complain about.
  3. ShaggyBevo and "think" go together like sentience and slime mold.
  4. It's set at 3.5 and I'll take the under. If Texas remeains down and out of contention for the next couple of years it might last longer - but assuming they turn things around and return to dominance...they'll ride that momentum to a new conference or independence. Doesn't matter. Someone posted in the Austin comments about BYU, and they made a good point--BYU hasn't done much of anything, and they nailed a sweeter TV deal than Notre Dame did when they went independent. All this deal amounts to is one significant step towards Texas leaving the Big 1210. As for Mizzou joining the Big 10 (12), I'd honestly think Kansas is a shoe-in over Mizzou at this point. Kansas is a AAU member, they have one of the premier basketball programs and they, unlike Mizzery, have been to a BCS bowl in the past decade. That, and there are just as many Kansas fans (and Nebraska fans, for that matter) in Missouri as there are Tigger fans. Plus, if you're Dr. Tom and Delaney, et al, ask you for information on your former Big 12 chums, which one would you rather steer the Big 10 towards?
  5. Netflix currently limits to six devices total, that is the limit they instituted recently. Also, Netflix recently added a streaming-only subscription service ($8.99/mo iIrc) so folks that go over the six device limit have a cheap(er) method of extending access to (six) more devices. And just so folks are aware, Starz Play will be going the way of the dodo this year unless Netflix wants to pay through the nose. One of the execs for the cable provider that owns Starz had gone on record a week or two ago saying they ****** up in letting Netflix have access to their programming for so cheap.
  6. Rawhide--I have FiOS too, and they unfortunately don't carry any of the Fox Sports (Big XII Sports) PPV games on their network. I've sent numerous requests with just a generic reply, and the Technology writer of the Dallas Morning News even asked on my behalf and was given a generic answer from their PR folks. Considering we're in North Texas and that their competition (Dish, DirecTV, AT&T U-Verse, Comcast, Time-Warner) all carry the games, you would think they would too...but no. I have no ideas as to how to get through to these knuckleheads--I love the FiOS service other than this, but not having the PPV option is driving me nuts...even though we do have three local watch site options.
  7. How many and how much? Looking for two, possibly four myself. And I'm a 'Husker, through and through. Class o' 99.
  8. TO didn't say BC would resign. But BC said BC wouldn't resign. And given his self-confidence, I believe him. If TO isn't going to fire anyone, and BC isn't going to resign, then the only way this rumor is true is if BC got hit by a bus or struck by lightening. My point was that TO wouldn't lie. He was just on the radio two hours ago saying there would be no changes. Thank you for making my point. The only reason that Bill Callahan, et al, weren't keen to resign is because they are holding the program hostage for more money. If the money has been obtained, they're gone, save for Watson, Busch, Wyatt, and one or two other folks. It's not going to be by Osborne or Pearlman's hand that this goes down--these are the boosters and lawyers that are serving this up. If it's legit, my only concern is how it makes Dr. Tom look in the face of the media and such by saying he'd meet with Callahan, et al.
  9. Um...why? Harvey's hand was forced by the boosters--he didn't do this of his own volition, as much as he'd like to claim/have us believe. Add to that the mistakes and problems he's made on the Academic side of the University of Nebraska (allegations of fiscal impropriety, the whole illegal alien acceptance issue, significant losses in research grant money and scientists, declining standards, highest tuition hikes (percentage-wise) ever in one Chancellor's watch, and declining student population), and the masses are already at the gate, just waiting for an excuse to tar and feather him down on downtown "O" Street. This is one of those few instances that the firing/release of this twit would serve both the academic and athletic portions of the University of Nebraska at the same time. So don't thank him for something he was forced to do--all he did was just save his own skin and paycheck, and nothing more. The question is how long did Harvey hold off the proverbial masses at the gate? Maybe so but the man finally did something right. Could you step in and run UNL. There is more going on, than we know about with the running of a University. Show some MANNERS. I am, considering who we're talking about. And based off of how horrible Harvey has done, yeah, myself or half of the posters here could likely step in and do a much better job. If anything, like the MIZZOU fan had to point out to a HuskerBoard poster, he gave Steve a contract extension and then fired him in the same year. That's either the epitome of incompetence, neglect, or ineptitude. Your pick, but it sure as hell doesn't make any business sense, and it's now not a move that can be defended in any way, shape, or form without it coming back to be another item on the list of screw-ups Harvey has done at the University of Nebraska. Take the blinders off or go hang out at the Big Red Message boards where they're actually crying and lamenting the firing of Steve Pedersen.

  11. Kevin Steele is a winner as a Coordinator, and Morris was only able to win/flirt with bowl elegibility at Baylor with Steele's kids. They ran Steele out a year too early, IMO. Regardless, Steele would be an excellent coordinator (I believe he's currently defensive coordinator for Florida State, right?), but I don't see much else right now. Not at Nebraska, at any rate. But...could you imagine Kevin Steele and Bo Pelini on the same sideline for Nebraska? That defense would be the best to have ever set foot at Memorial Stadium.
  12. I don't think we have enough data to support that, unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your view.)
  13. Yeah, I would think it would be a step down actually. While he's been there, he was co with Mike Stoops who is now head ball coach at Arizona. He was co with Pelini who IMO will be head ball coach at Michigan next year. I think it would be a mistake to come here when he's more than likely very close to a head coaching gig of his own in the very near future. This is off topic a bit, but my wife and I were talking about it tonight if there has been any more influence over this generation of college coaches than KState's very own Bill Snyder. I didn't realize that the head ball coach at USF was a Bill Snyder decipel at KState. Look at how many coaches under Snyder are now head ball coaches around the country. It's simply amazing considering how good a lot of their programs are as well. off topic, but i see les miles at michigan and bo at tA&M next year. i can't back that up. just a gut feeling. I can't disagree at all because Miles has the Michigan ties. However if I were Miles, I think I'd keep the LSU job for myself and recommend my DC Pelini to Michigan. Michigan has the same kinds of handicaps we have here at NU with weather, recruiting, fan expectations, etc. I do agree that A&M probably looks for a different coach unless Franchione can get it done in the Big 12. When they got shell shocked by Miami, the firing squad got tuned up. I do like your feeling on Bo at A&M. This conference could see some things. You have Leach and Stoops who both coached under Snyder at KState. Then, you'd have Pelini who coached under Stoops at OU at A&M. Then, you might have Venebles (sp) as DC at NU who used to be under Stoops at OU. This could be one interwound conference with nearly coach knowing the other coaches tendencies and thoughts. If Miles goes to Michigan and Bo to A&M, who stays at LSU? I would think if Bo were given the two schools to choose from he'd rather stay at LSU? If you wanted to have a chance at a National Championship, which route would you take--the easy road, or the hard road? If both roads lead to the same destination, I'd take the easier (Big XII) road. In all honesty, the SEC is as "tough as rain". Big XII, not so much.
  14. disagree because stoops is the the defensive play caller at oklahoma. if this venables (?) does come to nebraska, he would be given quite a bit of leeway with defense. he looks like parker lewis, tho. And Parker Lewis can't lose. Seriously, if Mike gets the axe at Arizona, I could easily see all of this happening. Very plausible. Only thing I'm concerned with is his connection to the Kitties in Manhattan...
  15. Whoa...um...there were quite a few folks in the mix. Houston Nutt, Sean Peyton, Bo Pelini, Turner Gill--all of them were either approached and/or interviewed for the job. Honestly, I was hoping that they would have hired Turner Gill, but I was happy with the Callahan hire. I didn't see why they would have went after Nutt, and considering Bo's past (never stayed more than two years w/a team, if I recall correctly), I was more than hesitant to give the reigns to Bo (though I would had liked him to stay on as DC...especially now.)
  16. And if you would have read on, you would have seen that I DID clarify. We are better than Texas right now because we know what problems we have and are working on them. Texas, up until this weekend, had beens struggling but hasn't their weaknesses exposed yet. Beyond weak. We are not better than Texas just because we know our O-Line can't run block and our defense sucks. Just because we know that doesn't make us better. But you can know the opposite. Because you're so smart. I totally understand now. Texas has more talent, a better coach, more team speed, more athleticism they are bigger at almost every position....that is why they are a better team than NU. They are playing waaay below their talent level and we might be, might be, close to playing at the same level but they are a better team, without question. can we beat them YES, are we better than them HELL NO! If you actually think TexAss has a better coach than Nebraska, you need to check yourself into a mental hospital ASAP. And I'd take our defense over their defense any day of the week, save for the defensive line. If you would have actually watched any of their games, you would see their kids are lethargic and lost on the defensive side of the ball. Their talent isn't any different than ours is--they just have a head coach that's been faking it for some time and was exposed to the world after Chizick left before the Iowa bowl game.
  17. Honestly, TexAss is just that bad. Between the UCF and the TCU debacle (the same TCU that lost to Air Force and the same UCF that hasn't really done anything of importance) there were signs. Add to that the miserable performance TexAss had against 6-6 Iowa in their bowl game last year (which is why I said Nebraska had the best bowl game out of the Big XII, save for maybe TexAss Tech, despite their win), and bottom line...TexAss misses Chizick and will continue to do so for some time. I just wonder what the over/under is on how long it will take for that whole house of cards to tumble down in Austin. I'd say three years before the Tobacco Road Con-Man is run out on a rail.
  18. Dear Lord, Please end this ignorance. Thanks. P.S. Good job with the whole world thing.
  19. You can give all the support you want but it's not going to help a terrible defense no matter how loud you yell. I know we can all give a polite golf clap instead of booing when the defense gives up another easy touchdown. Then you're sure as hell not a true Nebraska fan, and you'd be doing Nebraska a favor as you get the hell out. Make sure not to let the door hit you on the arse on the way out. And yes, we're going to punch the 'Clowns right in the mouth, and the fake Nebraska fans like REDSTEEL will have to sit there and suffer while Nebraska wins another one.
  20. Well, considering Callahan has yet to lay a goose egg, I'd consider this post to be ill-timed and illogically formed, at best. I guess the question we should be posing to you is why you want to see the 'Huskers do so bad that they fire their coach? Unless you've got a personal grudge/vendetta against the coaches and AD, you shouldn't be hoping they tank. And if you're thinking that firing Callahan is going to magically fix things...well, perhaps you need to go get some more of that wonderful TexAss education they've got down here and learn some football. I am assuming you need to learn football also since you want to criticize someone for asking if Cally's extension will keep him from getting fired anytime soon. Don't attack someone else's ability to understand the game unless they call Lucky a center and Keller a linebacker. No--it's apparent you and your friend have no time to learn anything about football since you're busy spewing venom and focusing on your anti-Bill Callahan slant. Your ignorance is what is bringing this program down, bottom line. Do the rest of 'Husker Nation a favor and go root for someone else--you have no idea what it is to be a Nebraska fan, and people like yourself that don't want to see our kids succeed are some of the lowest scum on God's green Earth. I hear Colorado could use a few fans like yourself... You have no idea who you are talking to and how much I understand this game. Do your homework about me before you talk about me. Ever wear shoulder pads outside of 8 man ball? I want us to win every game...you don't know anything about my views. You're right--I don't know you from Adam or Eve (or Steve, if that's the way you go). All I have to go on is the tripe that you and your cohorts have been spreading around as of late. I guess you reap what you sow... Then please help me understand because nobody on this board has given me evidence to the contrary.... What has Bill Callahan done to show he can win 10+ games a year consistently with NU? Please be specific and site accurate information and a deep understanding of the game. What--so we can waste time on a close-minded idiot that can't see the forest for the trees. And if you know anything about debate, the burden of proof is on the negative, not the affirmative. So far, all I've seen from you is a lousy website that you whore out in every thread and a strong case for having you sterilized to protect the gene pool of actual Nebraska fans.
