  1. Nahhh.....why switch to that?? Let's keep using the WCO and losing....and losing.....and losing....anytime we play a good team.
  2. I agree 100%!! Buy him out of the GT contract.........PJ with Bo would be the real deal!!
  3. It's almost impossible to have an OLine that excels at both run and pass blocking. Asking our OLine to perform both equally only marginalizes its performance at both. This "balanced" offense is bad choice. We need to excel at one or the other (not both!!) as it simply is not realistic. TO's offense was superb for decades because it recuited and developed its Oline to excel at "one" function. We need to do the same.....
  4. Without doubt, Crouch carried NU on his back for three years. It's always been my impression that the majority of NU fans never understood at all what a superb talent he was. Imo, he was easily the most electrifying NU player since the Jet. Just try to imagine what he would have done with Frazier or Frost's surrounding talent. The contrast is simply "huge".
  5. Calling him the devil would be to insult the real Devil. That's for sure. I was totally shocked to see another major program (Pitt) pick that supreme moron up. Firing the HC & staff for a bowl winning 10-3 season simply has to be the stupidest move by any AD in div1 cfb history. Here we are six years later, after losing seasons, humiliating blow out losses, etc and we've yet to have a year that even matched the year (2003) that they were all fired for. Thanks Pedey......don't call us, we'll call you.

  7. Like when they rushed 39 times for 95 yards and gave up 184 yards rushing against Miami? Did they line-up run the ball, stop the run and win that day? Just saying. Now if GT comes out on Saturday, runs the ball, stop the run and wins against Va-Tech I’ll buy into them. That being said this year they have beat a bunch of below average teams (14-15 combined records with Jacksonville State having 4 of those wins). They are 5-1 this year and were 9-4 last year just like the Big Red. So you could say that Watson’s offense gets you just as many wins as Paul Johnson’s. All the people saying that the defense won us the game against Mizzou, were you saying last year that Bo/Carl’s defense got bailed out because the offense was so good and won/kept us in games? It’s a team game and getting turnovers by the defense is part of the game. The offense capitalized on those turnovers. You don’t think that back in the “Glory Days” there were games that the defense played well and the offense did just enough to win? Why is nobody questioning the Special Teams coach for the crappy play? Didn’t his units have just as much to do with Mizzou hanging around and having a chance to win? Last year was P. Johnson's first year at GT where he won the ACC "coach of the year". In his previous six years as Navy's HC he took them to five bowls (we're talking "Navy"!) and in 2004 was awarded 2004 B. Dodd national coach of the year. So yeah, I'd say he's had some real deal success running the option for years and hardly needs your approval or even recent awareness of who he is. How about his 1st yeat at GT beating Miami, Boston College, Clemson, Florida State and Georgia?? Not enough for you to "buy into"? Well.....who cares. I'd take his offense with Bo's defense 10,000 times over the current status. Bo has to carry our offense now. He wouldn't have to with a TO or PJ as the OC.
  8. Run the ball, stop the run......win the game. TO understood that. B. Switzer understood that. Currently so does P. Johnson. Watson believes NU will become another Miami/FSU/Florida cloned in thier prime by throwing the ball all over the place (just like Callahan). This results in getting our run stuffed every time we play a tough defense. Who cares right? It's just another blowout loss, right?? Sadly, I think odds are overwhelming that it simply will not work. The upside is that I think Bo knows this or is in the process of learning it.
  9. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The Huskers redzone issues had nothing to do with the play calling. It was EXECUTION that was the problem. Shawn Watson didn't drop two sure TDs in the end zone, or commit a half dozen false starts on one drive. And he sure as hell didn't commit the holding penalty that cost McNeill his TD either. Seriously all this armchair coordinating is getting old. Was I freaking out at half time of the Mizzou game? Damn right I was, and by the end of the game I felt foolish for it too. If you guys aren't sold on the fact that Watson is a damn good Coordinator yet, then I'm afraid you will never be satisfied. What would you prefer we canned him for someone like Barney Cotton? We know he likes to run the football. How bout we bring ol' Franky Solich back, and see how unproductive our offense is then! Yeah, good thing we canned "Franky" & staff for a miserable bowl winning 10-3 season. Look how far Callahan and fluffball have taken us!!
  10. I'm sooooo jealous of GT. I would give almost anything for P. Johnson to be running our offense. Please Bo, give our offense the greatness it deserves. Some smashmouth option is precisely what we need.
  11. 100% correct! Fluffball will never return NU to dominance. We simply "must" have an excellent running game that we recruit and develop. After the Callahan supreme disaster you would think we would have learned....
  12. "Hawk makes Neuheisel look like Vince Lombardi." LOL!!
  13. Mike Sherman is probably selling the same vacuous dream that our former coach did-playing in the NFL. To the point of the thread...the biggest "need" for the 2010 class is, hands down DT and CB. All other positions the Huskers will be adequate with signing one at each position. QB...Lee, Spano, ?Martinez?, Ebke = stocked. RB...Helu, Castille, Okafor, Ward, Burkhead = stocked. WR...Paul, Holt, Bell, Cooper, Gilleylen, Osborne = stocked. TE...McNeill, Young, Cotton, Reed = stocked. OL...stocked DE...stocked. LB...stocked. DB...pretty much stocked. Agree with the mistress on this, IMO with Antonio Bell emerging, kyler Reed Khiry Cooper and Martinez NU is loaded. We need maybe two of the Freshman to be good enough to contribute, Burkhead is ready and could be put in the slot position and the 09 team will be nearly impossible to stop. the biggest surprise we could get is B Qvale is ready for prime time, its been a while since an Olineman emerged in his first fall, but you should try and remember the impact Will Shields had, we just need one great surprise on offense and defense that can add depth early and play into a starting role by year end, Qvale might be the guy. Same would be true on D line the TX Dline man who was player of the year may be the other guy who can contribute in the fall as a rotational player that is good enough, but not necessary, to take starts by year end. I see Crick and Baker as huge question marks, if one or the other makes Suhs double teams non productive, we'll go far. Line backer speed is headed up, saftey tackling and recognition must go up several notches, way too many plays got away from safeties last year. In watsons offense, we can run whatever the opponents weakness are. If Watson sees Lester as a Chris Brown look out, big 12 defenses are not re tooled to stop the power option game, as everyone has spent the last few years adding speed to stop the wide recvr sets, and offenses have focused on the recvrs and timing game. You bring power into this league at this time and i think you hurt everyone else. our depth at TE will enable the power game, and where its not needed will be upgraded with repect to offensive production as well, Reed is a dimnesional rule breaker at the position......He can get on a block faster, and has great hands while in recv mode. Combined the potential is sky high for this team, and skys the limit, if just a few more surpises arrive in the fall. wow...what a great post. I 100% agree that big 12 or SEC defenses are not recruited or developed to stop smashmouth option football. That is why I desperately love Bo (after 4 years of Callahan, who wouldn't??) but I would gladly sell my soul to give Watson away to "anybody" and bring in a Paul Johnson/T.O. clone for the OC. I firmly believe that barring a biblical miracle, the only way for NU to dominate again in cfb is to return to power football. Fluffball just isn't going to hack it for us....
  14. haha...oh boy, just had to swing by and see Mason Wald's video again.....whew!!! I don't care what Crabtree or anyone else says, this guy, barring injury, has GOT to play for the Blackshirts. Holy Moly....he's some kind of J. Tatum/M. Minter/M. Brown clone, I'm telling ya!! WooHOO!!
  15. NU will be greatly improved via coaching. The difference in coaching capabilities between Bo and Callahan is the Grand Canyon. No doubt Bo will have his plate full his first year straightening out the mess....still good for seven or eight wins. Maybe even nine. Year two of Bo though (2009) the order is restored.
  16. You're right...Mussolini was like that too... Of course, when Mussolini failed, he was murdered and his corpse was drug through the street. I am not sure BC was there yet, but he and Cosgrove were on the path (mostly joking, but BR fans were PISSED). If I were Callahan, I would not say much. A team with Nebraska's talanet should not win 5 games 4 years into the mission. He only won 5 games in year one and they stuck with him (I was bitter, but I loved old school Husker Option football combined with hard nose defense, so I felt vinidicated in my bitterness). Anyway, Ironically, he never matched the 10 win season that Solich got fired for. I think, in Hindsight, Solich's firing was a bigger error than the Callahan hiring in a lot of ways. Solich getting canned after winning 10 had to scare a lot of the other options off... Pederson deserved his canning every bit as much, if not more, than BC and Cosgrvoe (OK, maybe not more than Cosgrove). IS there ANY chance the option wil come back? I have ranted on this message board before, I think it would stil work. THe wishbone may not, but the Big Red won pretty recently with that system and it matched well with the talent the could reliably get.... That is a lot of titles and title games to be dismissing it.... Oh boy, talk about something dear to my heart. Sadly, probably not as most NU fans have been brainwashed that "it couldn't work". Total and complete BS, but yet they believe it. So much better to have a "modern" fluffball offense even if you just keep losing ya know...
  17. The 2006 NU/USC game. Watching NEBRASKA playing to not get blown out and not even trying to win made me sick to my stomach and my heart swore Clownahan as the prime #1 enemy of NU. Callahan was a disaster beyond comprehension.....surely our karma is fully paid off now?
  18. I think NU has it's best shot right where it is in the BigXII. What would we gain by joining the Big10/11? Michigan and Ohio are a long, long ways from Lincoln and don't have the recruits Texas has anyway. We're really better off right now....the BigXII North is just waiting for NU to shrug off the Callahan abortion and rightfully claim it "our house" on a consistent annual basis.
  19. I'm not so sure that's valid these days. Fans expect instant gratification. For the sake of continued employment, it may be better for a coach to try and win immediately to buy some breathing room - and most fans will then give a team a break when that team is having to start a new quarterback the second year of the new coach's tenure. Oh boy, that's a tough call. My guess is that it mostly depends on the HC's expectations of the coming year. If he thinks his team has a legitimate shot for some kind of conference/division title then he will throw everything behind his #1 qb and let the chips fall where they may fall for the following year. If he thinks his team has a marginal to dismal shot for some kind of conference/division title then go to a two qb system or find lots of reasons to get the #2 qb lots of real-deal playing time and spend lots of quality time with the AD to beg, whine, etc for the desperately needed "one more year" of time needed to show the progress being made.
  20. I'll miss Cally/Pedey like another hole in the head. Both were inept used car salesmen.
  21. He has never come back when down at the half, he doesn't adjust to what is being played on the field. In order to maintain a role in the top 25 you have to do those things. Look at the Texas game, they made adjustments we didn't. one more year of callahan would be a disaster and the disappointment would be huge......time to trun the reins over to someone who can COACH! One more disaster/Callahan year would be simply brutal. Why in the world does anybody want more Cally blow-out losses? Four losses in a row? 0-16 when down at halftime? Zero top 10 wins? "Why" does anyone want more?
  22. would you start to call for the TO's head then?? I seem to think TO is in a bad position if he wants to keep Cally for one more year that the fans will bitch and moan if he keeps him. But I think TO is above that type of behavior. If TO did keep him and you, I assume think TO is all-knowing like almost everyone else, would you get behind the coach and support or would we be off to another season of lynch mob mentality by "fans" of TO and the program who would be "devastated to the very core"??? No, I would most sadly defer to TO's overwhelming experience and judgement. I admit I wouldn't like it one little bit though. All I know is that this "fan" has seen enough outrageously inept NU football though Callahan to last several lifetimes. Callahan has broken every NU record for losses and simply laughs at it. I hope to God TO doesn't see any reason to keep this NFL reject employed by NU past the CU game.
