  1. It'll take time for them to produce UNL related programming and even then all the time slots were already filled. Programming is probably at least 3 months ahead if not 6 to 9 months ahead. It'll be a while.
  2. Some of it is interesting. A lot seems lame to me becasue I don't care so much about the other sports.. I'm a football guy... but if you're into non football stuff it's plenty good. For me, I also got NFL network, the soccer channels and NHL network when I upgraded so I'm good. Only raised my cable bill about $8.
  3. Yeah but for the most part people don't take the other 8 as serioul as some of the B10 schools.. Comapre a win over KU or Missouri versus a win over Penn State or Wisconsin, people are more impressed by beating PSU or Wisconsin.
  4. The question is will any other conference want you then.. This whole deal is still bad juju for ISU...
  5. Well, I certainly HOPE TO and HP can get around it. But the bylaws seem to be pretty clear. I just hope they cant come after our fist year big ten money because that would fall under the two year time period.......
  6. that might be the thing they wind up fighting over. We're still in for this year, so whatever our games make would be the answer I would think. I *don't think* they can come after our first year big ten money... at least I hope not.
  7. We COULD just not play on TV...then they'd have nothing to withhold
  8. Yes. In my opinion we would have MORE quality conference opponents, but really the biggest reason to mve is the benefits on the academic side. So it would still be worth it.
  9. that is, unless for some inexplicable reason the big 12 decides not to pursue the claim...
  10. Link to the big 12 By-Laws. http://www.big12sports.com/fls/10410/pdfs/handbook/Bylaws.pdf Relevant section is 3.1 to 3.3. In a nutshell, a school that leaves the conference with less than 2 years notice is considered in breach and required to pay an exit penalty. Section 3.3 clearly states that "Member Institutions agree that such Breach would cause financial hardship to the remaining Member Institutions of the Conference". The part in quotes is a direct quote. We've already agreed ina legal contract that leaving with less than 2 years notices is a financial hardship to the remaining schools. The amount they actually make is irrelevant...they can argue they would have made even more had we stayed. Sorry folks. we're paying every last penny.
  11. So you don't think they can make a strong argument that they would have been that much better off if NU/CU had stayed and won't make as much now? Being better off now doesn't neccesarily mean they wouldn't have been in an even better position. And if you read the conference by-laws, section 3.3 actually stipulates that member institions AGREE THAT the withdrawal would cause financial hardship. I've quoted the pertinant section below ..... http://www.big12sports.com/fls/10410/pdfs/handbook/Bylaws.pdf "3.3 Effect of Withdrawal From Conference Other Than by Giving Proper Notice. If, other than by gvng a proper Notce pursuant to Secton 3.1, a Member Insttuton (a “Breachng Member”) wthdraws, resgns, or otherwse ceases to partcpate as a full Member Insttuton n full complance wth these Rules, or gves notce or otherwse states ts ntent to so wthdraw, resgn, or cease to partcpate n the future (a “Breach”), then the Member Institutions agree that such Breach would cause financial hardship to the remaining Member Institutions of the Conference, and that the financial consequences cannot be measured or estimated with certainty at this time. Therefore, n recognton of the oblgatons and responsbltes of each Member Insttuton to all other Member Insttutons of the Conference, each Member Insttuton agrees that after such Breach, the amount of Conference revenue that would otherwse have been dstrbuted or dstrbutable to the Breachng Member durng the two (2) years pror to the end of the Current Term or the then-current Addtonal Term, as the case may be, shall be reduced by an amount that equals the sum of the aggregate of such revenues tmes the followng percentages (such sum beng the “Aggregate Reducton”); f Notce s receved less than two years but on or before eghteen months pror to the Effectve Date, 70%; if Notice is received less than eighteen months but on or before twelve months prior to the Effective Date, 80%; if Notice is received less than twelve months but on or before six months prior to the Effective Date, 90%; or if Notice is received less than six months prior to the Effective Date, 100%." We've already agreed in a legal contract that leaving withouth following a certain procedure would be a financial hardship to the other schools. The tme in advance of leaving is the issue, not the money the other schools would or wouldn't make. Sorry guys. We're paying the full fee. Section 3.1 basically stipulates a minimum notice of 2 years to avoid the penalty.
  12. it's important to remember that UT and OU can only take a certain amount of players. They were already getting the best ones., and any kid that either school wanted tthey already had.. But there's still a TON of talent down there and no reason at all why we can't pull 8 or 10 players a year out if we want to. Add that to the fact that there's tons of kids up north that want to play in the Big Ten and an't for the same reason.....finate number of players allowed per school.....Our overall recruiting pool of highly skilled players just increased.
  13. Well anyone who has Directv or Dishnetwork would get it already. I am sure TWC will be getting it soon. Are you certain? I had Dish until recently and don't remember having the BTN I know for certain Directv shows it nationwide. I am in Des Moines so I am considered Big10 country and I get it here on Dishnetwork. If you dont get it in your basic package outside the footprint you should be able to get it with the sports pack. Edit: this is from the BTN site The Big Ten Network is available to up to 73 million homes nationwide. The Big Ten Network is available across North America on satellite providers such as DIRECTV, DISH Network and Shaw Direct (Canada), telco companies such as Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-Verse, and on cable in 22 of America's top 25 media markets. The network has cable distribution agreements with Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox (Cleveland), Insight Communications, Mediacom, Time Warner Cable, RCN, Service Electric, Shaw (Canada) and more than 250 additional cable operators across North America. Customers of DIRECTV and DISH Network have access to the network regardless of where they live. Verizon FiOS and AT&T's U-Verse are rolling out the network across the country. Cable subscribers inside the eight Big Ten states receive the network on either an expanded basic or digital basic level of service. Outside the eight states, excluding St. Louis, Omaha and Louisville, cable operators who carry the network make it available on a variety of packages. Select markets where the network is available are listed below. If you do not see your city listed here, contact your local system office to see if there are plans to add the network. Texas Sucks So wait a second, I can't get the BTN in Omaha with Cox cable? Yes you can. it's on digital cable..take the sports package. I'm watching BTN in Omaha right now on Cox.
  14. I think it should be Man Law that every Husker fan who mispells Coach Osborne's name, has to place 20 bucks into every Huskerboard member's Pay Pal account! What if a girl misspells it?
  15. Most of them have us at either 12 to 1 or 15 to 1. Of course, they also have Texas at 12 to 1 or 15 to 1......
  16. The real question is, for Nebraska fans, how does it feel to have a classless AD in Osborne? Nice Press Conference-Way to throw everyone under the bus on your way out of the Big 12. Cause of course it's everyone elses fault, except Nebraska right? Please. Man up and show some class. You chose to leave. Nobody forced you out. All I can say is don't let the door hit ya. You're right. We did choose to leave. We saw the handwriting on the wall and did what we had to do. If you listened to any part of that presser other than the goodbye part you would understand why.
  17. Why on earth would you give them the honor of calling themselves the Big Ten? How about we let them call themselves 'Twaddling Ten'? Or The Cow Pie Conference"? "The Trivial Ten"? We can come up with much more appropriate names for them if we just think a little bit.
  18. Somebody should get a pair of giant clown noses for Bevo's Horns
  19. What I'm getting at when I complain about the manufactured 'rivalry' with Colorado is that when the big 12 was formed they just took OU out of our thanksgiving slot, put colorado in and said 'There's your new archrival'. then we've heard over and over again things like Cu is our new rival and we better get used to it if we know what's good for us. Things like that have been in sports media for 15 years now.Cu had never been a rivalry like THAT to US. Personally I got sick of hearing about it. OU was always the game I circled on my calander because it was special to me. Nothing against CU, but it was OU that I grew watching on thanksgiving day with my family. Think of it like this...what if the B10 suddenly canceled your annual game with Michigan and substituted....oh, let's say Iowa State. Then told you repeatedly to get over it and just accept the new "Rival'. It wouldn't seem right would it? Just my 2 cents.
  20. if you ask me the big 12 made clear to us that they don't want us. As much as I hate to say it, we really don't know OU anymore. Not like wen I was young. And people around the conference and around the country have been trying to downplay the old rivalry for 15 yeaqrs. Well they got what they wanted. Time to let it go and build new rivalries. Look to the future now, not the past.
  21. They got thrown a bone alright. No meat on it at all. Soon to be followed by Texas' bone. Unfortunately for all the the bg 12 remaining schools they aren't going to get what they think they will get. No matter how you slice it, their TV rights aren't worth as much without NU and CU as they are WITH NU and CU. After a couple years when it becomes clear that UT and OU are the only teams that are ever going to be THAT big of a draw the payment for the other teams games will decline. In the end they'll make less for having let two schools go. UT will just get the biggest share. I seem to recall reading some article that said the Big Ten would cover our penalty.. Not sure about that.. but they're supposed to 'make NU whole' so maybe they will. If that happens the windfall that gets all the schools to $25 to $17 mill will be a one year deal. They'll finish will $12 million or so and UT may get $18million when it's back to it's final levels. I doubt any Big 12 school will ever see $20million for their TV rights. Not for the next 20 years anyway.
  22. OU one last time.. for old time's sake. I could be perfectly happy never seeing texas anywhere, anyplace , anytime ever again.
