  1. This post has pretty much nothing to do with the topic line, but I figured the tag line might at least spark your interest. Like many others, I'm more of a lurker, but I post once in a blue moon. I do have a gripe though, but not about the UCLA game, but a new rule that I heard about within that game. I don't know if anyone else has brought this up. Can someone explain how it would be possible to ever recover an onside kick with the new rule? It's a low percentage happening as it is, but now you can call for a fair catch after the ball bounces once? That pretty much leaves one option - to dribble it down the middle which the defense is/was obviously waiting for. What other scenario would work? I saw that Wisconsin almost pulled it off - almost, but not quite. I'd like to see a team that does, because I see the new rule putting the chances of this happening pretty much at a zero in a situation where an onside is expected. I know it's a rule to protect the players, but come on, it's football. Pretty soon kick off's will be reduced to two hand touch.
  2. Fixing the defense? Simple. Watch a tape of Alabama and say, "OK boys, go do that."
  3. Bold Prediction #1: New uniforms will be displayed as the "N" on the side of the helmet is turned upside down. But nobody will catch it until midway through the season. When the discovery is finally made, the team's success/demise will then be traced back to the uniform change and the "N" will either be turned upside right or remain at the changed position as a result of the hysteria. Bold Prediction #2: Mark May and Lou Holtz will be given a 67 year contract extension at ESPN for not only discovering the change, but then also agreeing as to what should be done at that point.
  4. Sir, After reading your post, the Badgers just became my second favorite team in the Big 10. Classic. Will there be anybody else on the Indians besides Burkhead and Bo? Or will they simply be fielding a two man team, which should be more than plenty? They might want to consider trading one of the two for Pujols.
  5. Barbeque? I think we can only expect good things if Martinez never missed a barbeque. I couldn't conceive of missing a barbeque–especially if there is bacon involved. Mmmmmm....bacon. I think I'll try to walk on next year. I just turned 40 and still have all four years of football eligibility left. But I'll probably leave early to go to the NFL–sorry. Ah forget it, I've had too much bacon.
  6. Do you not realize that you're doing the exact same thing the letter writer is doing? He never once said directly nor implied that Bo should act like Tom Osborne. He merely (and quite rationally I might add) explained that there are better ways to go about situations than Bo is currently exercising, and encouraged him to take a look at those ideas. Then you come on, acting all high-and-mighty, and totally misinterpret what he's getting at, but then echo his sentiments by saying "There are some things Bo has to do..." and "he's not going to change the way he does press conference over night", implying that he does indeed need to change, but that it will naturally be a process. He's saying we need to back off/chill out/stop being so obsessive. We tend to make things worse because we "care so much." I agree. It's getting weird in here. Dear Bo, I'm excited you're the coach (which is the reason I'm writing to let you know that I'm just not excited right now). I like it that you have passion and enthusiasm (well, except when I don't like it) Thank you for listening to my humble opinion (which you really need to consider taking seriously) Don't get angry now! (Ha, gotcha, just kiddding, we're friends right?) I'll look forward to seeing you on the field (where you can show me you've listened to my helpful suggestions) Go get 'em–we're all behind you (just work at being more politically correct as that will get you a whole bunch more people to like you, which is really what you want isn't it?) Let me know if I can be of further help (don't worry, don't call us, we'll call you) Hugs and Kisses, Your #1 Fan
  7. Positives? They broke into the game to let us watch Stanford stop Uconn's winning streak. Them girls is good.
  8. What "system" are we trying to run exactly? I'm still trying to figure that one out. We've had some highlight reel scoring plays throughout the year, but not too many 80 yd. grind-it-out type drives.
  9. My fondest "iive" memory is of the only NU/OK I've ever attended when we went to the CCG in Kansas City a few years back. I remember it was butt cold and I couldn't feel my feet by the end of the game. The first half was competitive and then OK kind of pulled away. Anyhow, I sat by an OK fan and his grandson and that guy was probably one of the most honorable people I've met in my life. He had respect for the game, for the team, for people, for the tradtions. He gave us an extra blanket and pair of gloves and, believe me, that made a big difference because I had no idea it was actually going to be that cold. We talked about past games the whole time and he was gracious in victory. I remember a lot of great plays on TV–crouch, rogers, etc. but that was a great real life moment I won't forget.
  10. What I learned: 1. Turner Gill looks really strange in blue. 2. If Alex Henery is receiving a lot of TV time and a bunch of accolades from the announcers...we're not playing real well (although Henery is a stud). 3. Will the real Niles Paul please stand up? 4. I can actually fall asleep during a Husker football game. 5. If anyone has attended every single game during the Kansas/Nebraska streak–they should get to go out for free pizza with Joe Paterno.
  11. Bo wouldn't be very good at quarterback. So......no. Wait, did Dan Beebe just move to Dallas? Then maybe yes.
  12. Sorry, but I thought it was kind of funny. I can't wait to see what they come up with when Missouri comes to town.
  13. LSU will undoubtedly jump over us. I don't care, I'll take the win. Lot of football left.
  14. The fake didn't surprise me and it was there. What did surprise me is that they took a knee with all of their timeouts in regulation and they really only needed about 30 yards to at least give their kicker a shot with the wind. They had the momentum and even if they throw an interception we didn't have any timeouts and we're heading into the win. Needless to say, I may have lost a couple of years off of my life. Great coach, great game. Early thanksgiving.
  15. nemajordude, Go to the party and don't look back. It's youth deer season here in missouri and I'm taking my son out for the "big one." If we don't get one in the morning, we'll go out in the evening. That means I'll likely catch the first quarter and that's about it. I never miss any games ever except for this...and it's a no brainer. Regardless of whether we win or lose, deer or no deer, I'll be having a memorable time with my son and you'll have the same with your daughter. Sorry to sound so schmaltzy, but it's the truth.
  16. One thing that sticks out about Martinez is how easily he gets out of the pocket when he wants to, no DL ever get a hand on him and there is a 0% chance any DL is going to catch him from behind. There were a couple of times on Saturday when he scrambled a bit and most QB's would have been grabbed from behind from the DE, but his first step is SO FREAKING FAST, they just have no shot. He's fun to watch, let's hope his confidence keeps growing this weekend. I've seen Smith run down WR and RB from behind. Not saying he can catch TM, but he does have some deceptive speed. Hopefully he is near fully healed by Saturday. While Aldon Smith is an outstanding player and will probably give every team you guys play fits, if his arm doesn't reach Martinez, he's not catching him, one step and he's full speed. Smith is a fabulous player, but he's not running down Martinez from behind at any point. Though I am sure he is fast for his size, he will never run down TMfrom behind IF TMis full out. He might very well smack TM hard with an angle or if TM is trying to throw. Two guys I noticed in the film last night on espnu was another DE named smith and a player named Sams. they seemed right at home in the Ou backfield. Hesitating against that bunch is asking for trouble. Get a play and whether it is run or pass get it off quickly. Smith will actually make Martinez run faster. I know if I had someone like that chasing me, I'd run faster
  17. Gabbert or Martinez? For now, I'm thinking that there is more pressure on Gabbert to have a good game. He has the ability to pick everyone else up and as it goes with him, it goes with the team in my opinion. If he is just a bit off and we can get into his head (and that could prove difficult as he appears to be a pretty level headed player), that could greatly narrow missouri's play calling if our defense is playing well. On the other hand, Martinez of course has to hold on to the ball, but he's not the only option we have in terms of offense and diversity in play calling. Maybe it's a coin toss as to who means more to their team and having a good game. Perhaps you see someone else instead of these two? Any thoughts?
  18. I think it will be similar to OK St. with the exception of Misery having a better defense than OK St. We must get pressure on Gabbert. We have great cover guys, but if Gabbert has time to throw, he will eventually find someone and has the ability to thread the needle. He is only prone to mistakes when pressed–making them play from behind would help that. Misery will be the best team we have played thus far. It could be a great game, my fear is that it won't. I live in Misery–nice people (at least the ones I know) but boy oh boy I can't stand their teams in pretty much any sport. I can't really say much about Pary Ginkel either. We absolutely cannot have any turnovers next week. Should that happen, it will be ugly. I was impressed with Misery tonight. They didn't play riding an adrenaline rush–they were focused and they expected to win. I think we need to count on them being ready next week–they took a pretty confident step tonight.
  19. Oh, common now. That would make Martinez the only QB in college that can't flick a 5-10 yd. pass while running. I believe he was already being touted for some grand award (about being the best player in the nation) just a week or so ago and now I hear that we don't roll him out because he isn't very capable. Yeah, and we thought Gilbert couldn't run either. I'm not saying that we should roll him out and ask him to throw 35 yds. across his body. Simply roll him out with the option to flick a short pass down the field in front of him or tuck it and run. Throw in a reverse or two to boot.
  20. Everyone knows that Martinez can run and will run. I think the games where he has multiple carries of 50+ yards are over. That doesn't mean he still can't run, but he needs to think of a 6 yd. run as being helpful instead of 60 yds. We had way to many 3 and outs last week. Ball control will be huge the rest of the season. Of course, we'll take the 60 yds. when it's there. Why can't we roll him out and give him a couple of different options–run/pass? Although it's exciting, I don't like it when he drops back to pass and then it turns into a run OR he gets sacked (which in that case is not exciting at all). But if you roll him out, everything is in front of him and I think you have a greater percentage of positive yards. A few short ball control type passes will give him confidence, give the receivers confidence, and open everything else up. It's low risk and still offers a wide variety of options. And I think you need to start with that early in the game. What think ye? Along with that, Texas ran Gilbert which was a brilliant call on their end–we were not prepared for it. Certainly, we have to account for the QB to run from now on now matter how much of a "non-runner" he appears to be. What do you think OK St. will try on offense that might catch us unawares?
