  1. We're caught smack in the middle of this argument... my father-in-law let the family contributions and season tickets just dwindle and go away (starting with 12 seats and yearly contributions enough to be 'gold club' boosters, or something like that - stretching back to the 50's). My wife and I came back to Lincoln to 'start the family' about 15 years ago; but we didn't know about, and were horrified to find out; what 'papa' had done (he just didn't think we were coming home). The new North expansion gave us our chance to get back N... but, honestly, we hate it! We're glad to be in the stadium, but the physical expansion really 'blows'. Point is, I hate it... but I love it!!! This is MY legacy, and we're always gonna be there. I guess that make us Nebraska!
  2. Rob Zateska, during his TV show in Omaha, mentioned on several occasions this past season, how the S&C was all screwed up under Kennedy.
  3. some things are better left unsaid...
  4. this year, just plan to get there early methinks!...
  5. Agree with all of the thoughts on individual games posted... but if the question is 'MOST' looking forward to, it's gotta be game #1. I just want things to 'feel different - feel right' across the board!!! It can't get here soon enough!
  6. ooohhh, woops, your right... thanks ddmft! edited orig too...
  7. wrong thread... put this where the 'black uni's' live.
  8. Do you know the other guy from Holdrege who posted above you? Holdredge/Minden now there's a rivalry... (back in the day).
  9. tell you what, I read Kolowski's 'Diary of a Husker', and throughout I was amazed at the amount of 'food money', etc. he was given as a 'walk on' player... it seemed to parallel what I was able to scrape up going and humping regular jobs all thru school (early 80's). has something changed since then?
  10. alas... Rumorville's once again just a fond memory... for now.
  11. somebody please send Saltwater Aquarium Guy over to the Watson's... stat!
  12. Glad to hear this skersfan; 'earning respect' is a good measure of someone who just may belong here, no? (I've also liked the stories of Bo's immediate 'need to know' about class attendance, etc.)
  13. LJS 'old clip' run today original publish date: Jan. 11, 1959 Osborne is State College Athlete of Year When Hastings College counts its blessings, it starts by counting the athletic and scholastic achievements of Tom Osborne. Here’s what makes Tom Osborne a repeat choice as the 1958 Sunday Journal and Star Nebraska State College Athlete of the Year: Four varsity football letters. Three varsity basketball letters (another on its way this season). Three varsity track letters (another due this spring). Summer participation in baseball. A-minus scholastic average through 3 ½ years of college. Selected three successive years as Sunday Journal and Star All-NCC football quarterback. Selected two successive years (a third possible this season) on Sunday Journal and Star All-NCC basketball team. Sunday school teaching and regular church and youth work through high school and college career. All-America small college mention for football and basketball. Candidate for 1959 Rhodes Scholarship. All-State high school basketball and football recognition. What else could a college senior list as achievements? Osborne’s record leaves little to be desired. Tom, a senior majoring in history and minoring in English and economics, becomes the first to repeat as the Sunday Journal and Star athlete of the year. Last year, he became the initial junior to receive the coveted award. Tom, who turns 22 in February, has been a first-stringer on Hastings College football, basketball, and track teams for four years. He’s a top-flight T-formation quarterback and a triple threat performer. Osborne-quarterbacked teams won one Nebraska State College title, were second twice and fifth once. Tom’s plans for the future are indefinite. He’s certain to do graduate work at some university, however, the site is still unknown. A law degree is one of Tom’s goals at the present time. Pro football could figure in Osborne’s immediate future, although he has had no defining offers. “I’d be very interested in giving the game a try if the opportunity arose,” Tom stated. “The tryouts would be early enough in the summer that I could still start my graduate work in the fall if I didn’t make a pro club.” The likeable redhead admits he’s not figuring on the pro game in his future plans.
  14. Now that's some funny sh#% right there!!!
  15. Back in 'The Day', a day of 'players trading stamps' (anyone remember those from 'DX' gas stations... with books and wallets for carrying them) the Jets were one of my favorites... with a running back named 'Emerson Boozer'. Now, however, I'm just immensly greatful that BC won't be doing his 'coaching' with Husker gear on...
  16. I still say that they have to earn them back....individually. I don't want the whole starting defense getting blackshirts just because they are starters. I want to see them earn them, and then play to keep them. Rest assured; Bo & Co. will find a way to make this (the blackshirt) a real motivational 'tool'... I firmly believe they understand the power of it all. (Think of all of the Huskers of the past talking about the first time they saw a 'Black Shirt' hanging in their locker!)
  17. Where do I send my check? 1. Bo will just have to 'make due' with a 1.1M entry level salary 2. Another mark of 'he's just like us'... expects to 'earn' it 3. Yup, I'll send my check too... only need one season to see the turn-around in attitude and effort
  18. I was gonna 'clip out' that same statement. Love it!
  19. you start with morning golf, have a good lunch, THEN hit it hard!!!
  20. so how 'bout the "fan activities" of the day??? I'd start it off by saying i'd love to re-live a very favorite childhood memory with an 'old guy' punt-pass-n-kick on the turf of Memorial Stadium (age brackets of course.... or weight!?)
  21. I just can't stop thinking about the possibility of this day long 'event'. With all due respect to TO Bull and another thread, THIS will be The Great Husker Nation Family Reunion of 2008! We need to pack it all... the stadium, the soccer field, the horseshoe, the Champions Club, all of it!!! Think of the atmosphere... Think of the recruits!!! World's best fans... it's our turn! God, is it Spring yet!!! GBR
  22. Mrs. AbqRed was commenting during the game that Bo got a whole heckuva lot more air time than the LSU HC. (She thought Bo was the head coach, as he was getting so much time.) I thought it was absolutely the right move to coach. Best for the LSU kids and by proxy, best for the Husker kids. 's about time loyalty comes back! Is it Spring Game time yet!? nah, we're just gonna spend the *&%# winter talkin' about the color of the uniforms...
  23. that was my thought - liked the idea the minute I heard about it
