  1. also... has USC 'spanking' by the NCAA taken any luster off the Pac-10 idea, or is that just a blip on the radar?
  2. It's official! 2010 Farewell Tour! ...we need shirts.
  3. with all the lawyers involved, will we also find out today about a 1 or 2 year farewell tour?
  4. radio says OWH reports that Beebe has just 'scooped' all, and announced it as a 'done deal'. dick.
  5. please forgive if this has been posted, but this really hits what i've been thinking about... all of the 'last visits'. Big Ten Expansion: No Regrets, Nebraska Commentary: After Perlman and Osborne deliver the Big Ten bid, time to follow Bo's tough-minded lead by Samuel McKewon June 11, 2010 Dont look back, Nebraska. Dont regret this moment for a second. Youre on the edge of a decision that will benefit this state in more ways than a football fan or a sportswriter, thinking about that last trip to Allen Fieldhouse, can appreciate. Its going to be tempting, especially over the next year, the get wistful. To proverbially go hat in hand, as NU teams go on the road to some of these Big 12 North schools not named Colorado. To protest being cast as a villain. Ignore the cat calls. Forge ahead. NU knows what its done in positioning itself for the Big Ten, and while it wont be easy - what in college sports and academic politics ever is? - youll look back in a decade and know every slur and insult thrown your way by the leagues fans - programmed to listen to some glory-hound, super-sourced reporters version of the events, codified by ESPN - was minor in the face of the rewards that await. Even if it doesnt work out on the playing field - even if college football shatters into a million little pieces one day, with the IRS crawling up the games nose to tax and investigate - youll be better shielded from the glass in the Big Ten than you ever would have been in the Big 12. NU athletic director Tom Osborne and UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman delivered this day. Kudos. They worked the backrooms and their solid reputation counted when it mattered. They were fine negotiators for moving Nebraska out of a toxic, dying league. Perlman is the most influential NU administrator, well - can we easily put a timeframe on it? Osborne, meanwhile, had one last touchdown drive in him. If the Big Ten accepts Nebraska today, he pulled this off like a 13-play, 84-yard march of nothing but fullback traps and short-side toss plays. But Osborne wouldnt be perfect trudging through what Nebraska football is about to face over the next year or two. Osborne is courtly, stately, dignified. He hates being cast as insensitive, much less a villain. Nebraskas glorious 1995 season proved that, when Osborne appeared to enjoy his finest team - indeed, the greatest college team in history - less than most. He would have turned whats about to come into a farewell tour. He would try to mend fences that schools like Kansas and Iowa State, for now, have no interest in mending. Hed try to explain, where no explanation would work. Apologize where no apology would be accepted. Thats not Bo Pelini. Hell be the perfect, grim-faced, angry, well-show-em nut that the Big 12 cant crack. Pelini isn't above creating his own adversity, a little friction to coach against. But hell have it created for him now. If Osborne and Perlmans measured, pleasant confidence was the M.O. that got Nebraska to this moment, its Pelinis defiant chin that must define NUs mindset from here on. Nebraskas not just back and here to stay - its here to leave and take all the loot on its way out the door. Harsh? Oh, you betcha. But it's going to get harsh for NU. Bos Huskers will be a lightning rod for every negative emotion the Big 12 can muster against this school and this state. Expect it to be considerable. Manhattan on a Thursday night? Kansas State might as well sell seats to dingoes, thats how whipped up its crowd will be. Texas A&M and Oklahoma States crowds wont be kind, either. You might as well gird for now, Nebraska. Youre in for a winter of the Big 12s discontent, rage and bile. Texas will not be kind on its way to wherever the hell its going. It will keep its hand-picked media fat and happy, and they will try to sever NUs hard-won recruiting ties in the Lone-Star State. A Horn Scorned will quickly become the Bull in the Big Red shop. And the Blackshirts will be the Black Hats as the Big 12 comes crashing down. Dont even try to flip the script. Forgive your Big 12 North brothers, Husker fans, for they know not what they do. Then watch NU send them into purgatory without a parting gift. Such tough talk doesnt suit most Nebraskans. But it suits Bo. And itll suit his team, too. The good cops delivered the Big Ten to Nebraska. The Bo cops will send the Big 12 to its shallow, unmarked grave.
  6. It's definitely lack of seeing the big picture. Most of the people unhappy with the move focus on football, and specifically the Big 10's perceived strength at this moment. It's a case of not being able to see past your nose - all thoughts are about the here and now, this moment in time. People have discussed Michigan as being "weak" and the conference overall as weak. Oddly, in those same threads you'll find people saying we can't compete in the Big 10 - basically saying it's a weak football conference, but we're not good enough to be successful, despite the fact that we just competed in our own conference's championship game and came damned close to winning. Clearly these arguments aren't based on much logic, but a lot of emotion. Further, I have yet to see a poster who is against this move address the economic benefits to Nebraska, both in BTN money and CIC grants. And nobody at all is discussing how the cooperative nature of the CIC will necessarily benefit Nebraska academically. While there are arguments against joining, they're not well-thought-out and they're mostly based on emotion, and adherence to the past. Bullseye Knapp! Folks forget how much Harvey wants Nebraska to be a first class research institution. Many bigger pieces have been put in place, and he (Harvey) is extremely good at what he does. IMHO, this situation represents the planets aligning in many different ways, and football is only one of those ways. (God i'm glad TO lost the governor's race!)
  7. player gets one and school gets one... those are the real deal! (the new 'Heisman Room' is absolutely wicked!!! they now have the technology to add more presentations to it, newest one is called 'Game Day' it is absolutely fantastic, a must see!!! btw, checked with epoc, he did have some spitballing input on it, i passed along huge props.)
  8. The spring game is the annual full scrimmage held at the end of spring football. It usually conisists of limited play by the starters and is often the most playing time some of the pine riders will see in their entire football career at Nebraska. It is meant to help progress and prepare all of the players for the regular football season in the fall. It also serves as an appetizer to some fans who go through football fever in the off season. I personally find that it's like taking a childrens tylenol for the "fever" in relation to the football metaphor. It just doesn't hack it. Moon, i think it's more like looking forward to and attending a giant reunion of your favorite college buddies... it's more about the beer, brats, weather, hot chicks, etc., etc., the game is something on 'in the background', and you pay attention to it whenever something really catches your eye (in this case mostly watching for individual players you want to see.) IMO, it ain't real football, and you soon focus your attention back on your beer, brats, buds,......
  9. a NE bank or investment thing i think...?
  10. ...i'm more interested in the 'Barely Sports'
  11. TO said in an article he was making less than $200k when he retired. The article was last year sometime, probably when Bo got the raise last year. Sticks in my mind that TO's total package did get to the 1 Mil mark by the time he was done... I think he did also distributed some of his money to assistants (?) not sure if the processes were a bit different.
  12. Where do you think ESPN analysts get there info...... Bo's saltwater aquarium guy? I certainly can't do it, but don't you guys think we need some kind of Emoticon that represents Bo's Saltwater Aquarium Guy? That reference is more iconic than just about anything 'round these parts...
  13. Nebraska fans own Arizona. Arizonans for Nebraska, AZ4NE.com, is one of the largest alumni groups. ASU doesn't get near the amount of support that NU gets here. U of A has to contend with the Southern Arizonans for Nebraska. I actually think if the economy was better, NU wouldv'e had an even more dominant fan showing at the Holiday. Californians for Nebraska is another huge alumni association. Its tough for opposing teams' fans, even ones in their home state, to outdrawn NU in Arizona or California bowl games. I think that the "Travel well" part is a little misleading. I grew up in a "large" Nebraska town of ~5600, but didn't meet some of them until we all moved out here to a metro area of over two million in PHX Arizona area. One couple I met lived just down the street from where I was living when I noticed the "37" county Nebraska plates on their cars while walking my Husky and we struck up a conversation. The first time I came out here (while I was a Highschool Jr.) was to visit one of my older Brothers, who like literally hundreds of fresh graduates of UNL's Engineering College had moved out here where a lot of Engineering Jobs were. Last time we played ASU out here, tickets were really hard to get even though sellouts were rare...Mainly because of the Nebraska transplants, but also because of their extended families and college buddies taking the opportunity to come out for a visit and take in a Husker game (two birds/one stone). I also met a handful of former HHS classmates at tailgates durring the '95 MNC win over Florida that were already living out here. Funny....Now..All my vacations involve going back home to Nebraska. A favorite experience of mine, while living in NoCal years ago, was the discovery of the local chapter of Northern Californian's for Nebraska. The event completely took over a great bar w/ full satellite TV ability - to get access to the game. It was so damn cool just finding the place... red people were everywhere, walking to the bar (in a tree covered campus setting.) There was even a Husker car horn that blared pulling into a parking lot! I was in friggin' heaven! You just know these Husker groups are available to 'represent' anywhere. side story: ...some number of 'pitchers' later, with my new very best friends , I wanted to make my financial contribution to the big-dogs (for the organization's 'lease' of a little local radio station to pick up the next season's games, scholarships, etc.); I find my wife, "honey, I really need the checkbook." A couple weeks later, we start to get these THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION!!! postcard(s) showing up in the mail... Wifey - "HOW MUCH DID YOU GIVE THEM!!!???" I just smile... she just smiles back. (reason 7,804 to snag a Husker Hottie!) oh, and BTW, HUSKER 37, I finally was able to connect all the dots... I knew I could place you in the SWC, but not sure where. Greetings from an old 52 county MHS guy who grew up down the road a piece! (I'd have to admit to Novacek cleat marks too...)
  14. What Castille thing? Are you saying something happened to Q? I noticed he didn't play much this year. Oh, man. I've got a bad feeling about this.
  15. will this be on the test?
  16. juuuuuuuuuuusssssssstttttttt riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight... what's wrong with a little upward pressure coming from the outside? it all plays into that important re-development of 'swagger'. I really thought I saw that (swagger) return for the first time in a very long time @ the Holiday Bowl - with healed-up kids, and now moving from 'learning' to 'executing'.
  17. welcome, and thanks for asking that question! i've been hanging around here a long time, and never had the balls to ask that!...

  19. thats cool! im from Winnipeg!! Just out of curiosity when it comes to recruiting how is the instate talent in nebraska?? do you guys mostly get players from texas and surrounding states? or is it mostly in house? What are the High School power houses in nebraska? if i was looking to follow nebraska high school football closely Most are from Texas and California. The rest come from around the country. We usually get 1 or 2 instate scholarship guys a year. The walk-on program takes care of the rest of them. As far as powerhouses that produce in-state talent....there are none (correct me if wrong). Maybe someone else on the board could elaborate more on how it was in the old'n days. I think that back then we got alot more in-state guys than we do now. as far as our players, you also need to Google 'Nebraska Walk-on Program', there's boatloads about it - even a recent movie made by NET, our public television/production enterprise... having a hard time finding this video..tried searching on google but couldnt find it Here's a blurb i can cut-n-paste... I'm still searching Nebraska 'NET' too. Premiere Screenings of NET Television Film “Walk Ons: Huskers’ Edge” in Omaha July 30 LINCOLN, Neb. (July 15, 2009) -- NET Television will kick off the football tailgating season with a premiere of its upcoming, high-definition documentary “Walk Ons: Huskers’ Edge” on Thursday, July 30, at Marcus Village Point Cinema, (304 North 174th Street), in Omaha. Four showings will be held at: 2, 3:30, 5 and 7 p.m. Former Husker football players and celebrities, as well as Kevin Kugler and Adrian Fiala, hosts of NET Television’s “Big Red Wrap-Up” series, will be on hand prior to the four screenings to greet guests and sign autographs. Guests will also have the chance to win a Husker-NET-themed gift basket in a drawing. “Walk Ons: Huskers’ Edge” tells the story of the University of Nebraska’s football walk-on program, following the young men, raised with Nebraska values and dreaming of becoming a Husker and playing in Memorial Stadium. Former Husker walk-on greats Jeff and Joel Makovicka, Jeff Jamrog, Jason Peter and Langston Coleman talk about their walk-on experiences, with sportscasters and analysts, as well as Tom Osborne and current Husker coach Bo Pelini, discussing the past and present impact of the fabled program.
  20. I think traveling well has also become a real goal for Husker Nation... something to be proud of in and of itself. One real emblem of pride was painting Notre Dame's stadium RED! Posters/pics of that are still everywhere!
