  1. Don't think the so-called meltdown is the result of one game or one loss, it is more of a collective thing here. I think anyone that watches Nebraska football is aware that it is kind of just staying put in the same place, not getting any better, and not getting any worse, which isn't good enough. There are no more excuses that this isn't Bo's team, or his players. It is obvious that the O-line isn't getting any better than it was last year, or the year before. The defense if anything has been going backwards. Changes have to take place one way or another. I think Bo will have one more year to make something happen, and if we are where we are now, I think there will be a choir singing for his ouster. There has to be some improvement, and it better come sooner or there won't be a later for some people employed by the university.
  2. This year was just more proof of how the Blackshirts really should be awarded....individually, not as a group of starters, when there are starters that obviously are not deserving. In my mind there should have only been maybe 3 or 4 of them handed out at most. It does water down the tradition when you have them awarded to a defense that is as poor as this one is. How can you justify giving them to a defense that as of now ranks at 42nd for total defense in the country, and 7th in the Big 10? There is no justification, unless you want to add some horizontal white stripes to those blackshirts, because they have seriously stolen them, as they were not deserving as a unit.
  3. If there was ever a year when we could have a legitimate chance at winning the Big 10, and knocking off power houses like OSU, Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Michigan State it was this year. We blew it.
  4. Personally, I think Bo better be figuring "IT" out, and make some changes on the coaching staff. This was "his" team, and it has been disappointing in Husker standards. He is supposed to be a defensive guru, but we haven't seen that, and the O-line is dismal under Cotton.
  5. This would have been the year to do it too. May not get this good of a shot at it for another decade or two.
  6. Hopefully they will play Iowa with a little motivation to end the season on a high. If we lose this game, it will be a off season with nothing but talk about which coaches should have been fired, because I don't think Bo will fire anyone without it coming from Osborne.
  7. Sorry, but as long as Cotton is the o-line coach, it will not get any better. He is a major disappointment. I think the defense will eventually come around but we need to get and develop better player talent. I don't feel like our recruiting is very good by any of the coaches to be honest, their evaluation of talent is lacking, and we need to go after more than 2 star players... And that will need to be improved either in house or bring someone in that knows how to do it right.
  8. With the way that this team plays down to lessor opponents, it is hard to tell what our record will be. There is absolutely no way to tell, it is like preseason polls, at the end of the year, it never looks like the projected outcome. But in being a good sport I am going to say 9-3, with losses to Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Chattanooga (just to get the year started off right and prove that we DO play down to our opponents level.
  9. This is ridiculous! Why would be boycott supporting our team because they have some issues at their school? Their issues do not involve Nebraska as a team or as a university. It is a legal issue that the State of Pennsyvania will deal with. Period. If Penn State was discriminating against women, or a certain race, or some other social problem, then it could possibly be an issue that we should be concerned with. I don't see the sexual abuse of young men by coaches being a huge problem all over in football programs in the NCAA. This was nothing more than a legal problem that should be handled as such. Any cover up should and will be dealt with legally as it should be. None of this effects the students, or the players at Nebraska. So why would we not show up to support our team? That is totally ridiculous.
  10. He will finish this season, as he announced and be done. Penn State owes him that much or what ever he wants, and he will get what he wants. Unfortunately he will retire with somewhat of a black eye. That is sad, not only for him, but for Penn State as a university.
  11. I don't think this team can take anyone lightly. They are NOT that good. They should be in the film room and working their butts off EVERY week for EVERY game. This has become a real issue here at Nebraska, the attitude that they can just show up and beat teams that are supposed to be of lessor talent. Not just this season, but it seems like it goes back all the way to Osborne's later seasons. I think this is a coaching issue. The players will only respond to what the coaches ask them to do. If the coaches aren't drilling them to watch the film, or to take a team seriously, it won't happen. This offensive line is not good. This again is a coaching issue. Cotton has had every opportunity to make it better. In my view, he don't know how, and he does not know how to do a good evaluation on talent. We are no farther with the O-line than we were last year at this time. I think that may be a team-wide issue - the defense is going down hill. This was not a problem in past years before Callahan, and Bo has not brought the blackshirts back to where they should be. There is a lot of work that needs to be done, and I would have hoped that we would have been farther down that road by now with Bo bringing in "his" recruits.
  12. You state the obvious. It's year 4 and I guess Bo's still learning how to be a HC and how to manage and prepare a team in all 3 phases. Based on what most here think, he should get about 22 more years to do that as long as we average about 3-4 losses a year. The question is WHY? Unfortunately the real answers make all the KA drinkers here very uncomfortable but to me it's simple: 1) Bo's simply not good at teaching the little things and holding guys accountable. Remember how Tyler Moore was yanked for 1 false start never to be heard from again but Marcel Jones can continue to make the same false start penalties game after game after game and still not get benched? Just one of the symptoms of bigger problems with his style of HC'ing. 2) Recruiting & Player development: The main area where Bo's failed esp. on defense. We just don't have talent on defense and the borderline guys that we have are simply not developing! Period. And now we're scrambling and going after 4 & 5* guys. Lets see how many we actually sign and what the plan B guys turn out to be. Other than guys like Hagg/Amukamara Bo's not developed anyone worth a damn. Case in point: Tackling. The most basic aspect of football. Look how horrendous this team is at that. That indicates a lack of development and ultimately a lack of confidence with the players. Bo's too in love with his schemes..... and it bailed him out in 2009 with Suh but we all saw the warts last year with the inability to stop the run. Guess what - it's now all come to fruition. If you can't stop the DAMN run, all bets are off - no scheme will work! How Bo doesn't get that after all these years indicates a basic flaw in his personality..... Cool. Character assassination through baseless facts. ^^This guy here, should be our next football coach as its obvious he knows how to make football teams win national titles. Haha...preach it. I have an opinion...and can and will state it. Just as you do...but I don't see you bringing any input, just the attempted character assassination of other board members. Fail. My question to you guys, why bother posting anything at all on this thread if YOU have no input to give other than to attack those that do? HuskerTrucker, I wasn't attacking you if that's what you were thinking. I was too lazy to erase irrelevant quotes and my comment was meant towards AustinHuskr as he has done nothing but produce post after post after post after thread after thread after thread about [in lesser words] how Bo Pelini is an awful coach, like Rich Rodriguez awful. I have nothing wrong with what you said. Sorry if there was confusion. No problem...all is good.

  14. I totally agree. Sounds like if they don't like what you are saying, then they can label you a troll, and hope you put your tail between your legs and go hide. There are a lot of things about this current team that I don't like...and I am not just going to be quiet about it. I have just as much right as those that are band wagoners do to post what I think about this or any other team. I would even have that right if I wasn't a Nebraska fan, as long as I did it respectfully. To those that don't like it....Get over it! I am not going anywhere.
  15. WHY would they cancel the game? No players or current coaches are indicted are they? And if they were they would be suspended, and the game would go on anyway. The suggestion that they need to cancel the game sounds to me like the OP might be hoping they do because he don't believe we can win on the field. Why else would anyone suggest they cancel a football game for something totally unrelated to the current program?
  16. WHY would we respond? that is bulletin board material if we do. So, the team and the university needs to just keep their mouths shut and comments to themselves. We have enough problems with this team, don't need to give PSU a reason to be pissed off.
  17. Bo and Dr. Tom are going nowhere....those people need to just get over it.
  18. No team will be a consistent NC contender. All you have to do is look at where Texas went after they were contending for the NC. The days of having just a handful of national powerhouses is over, anyone can beat anyone on any given Saturday. As far as walkons go, I wish they had a rule that you had to have at lease 30% of your team graduating high school in that particular state.
  19. That is nothing more than it has ever been in Nebraska. Going back to the Big 8 days, as a kid, I remember if we lost a single game, we had the feeling that the season was over. Now I have the feeling that we are okay with a loss, but 2 or three losses, the season is still over. Instead of expecting a NC, I have the feeling that people would be satisfied with a Conference Championship, and a good bowl game to go to, so in that regard - I really think Nebraska fans have lightened up a little bit. I don't see the fanatical fans that I used to, either. When I was growing up, in the "old days", the state of Nebraska seemed to come to a stop when the football game was being played on the radio or the television on Saturday mornings. Now days, you ask most kids who Nebraska is even playing that week, they couldn't tell you. The change in attitude at Nebraska is reflective of the change in attitude of the country, unfortunate. Young people have too many other things going on to care about a football game on Saturday afternoon.
  20. Agree with some of what you say, but being passionate about the one school, and one sport that has done us well through the years is no shame. I would rather deal with fans that give a damn about their local college team, than be like some people that I have met in other places that couldn't even tell you who the head coach was, and wouldn't know if their team won a NC unless they got the day off to go to the parade afterwards. Everyone has their own opinions, of what is wrong, how to fix it, and what to do if it isn't fixed. Unfortunately, the Callahan era has brought negativity to Nebraska. It isn't going away any time soon. Just be thankful that there are fans that care, and want to win.
  21. Martinez gets in trouble with his mouth with the press and fans quite a bit. This is one instance where it is more what he didn't say that what he said. If the two of them really aren't friends, he could have still said something, and been a little graciaus about it.
  22. I'll go a little further, since Memorial Stadium is located in Lincoln, lets rename the city to...hmm, anyone have any dead presidents on mind...?? I say name it after.....Martin Van Buren. That's my choice....Buren, Nebraska. We should start winning games any second now! I think we should name it after Senator Ben Nelson, creator of the Cornhusker Kickback, the greatest attempt of theivery in Nebraska state history - if we are going to name it after a politician. I am sure Ben would get all the building materials allocated by congress free of charge to Nebraskans, and paid by the rest of the country. And to show our appreciation, he could show up on the Saturday before election day and hand out ballots that are already marked with a check next to his name...even though I am sure he would much rather just have the check. Excuse me for digressing...
  23. I attribute it ALL to the fact that Callahan left his curse on Memorial Stadium. I am in total agreement there...and believe the only thing to do is tear it down, rebuild it even bigger and better, say...120,000 seats, just to prove that we are not going to let anyone take our spirit away. I also say we rename it to Tom Osborne Field.
  24. It don't take a genius to figure out the reason that they use Burkhead so much is because if they didn't, the other team would only have to key on Martinez, and he would be maimed or dead. The O-line sucks...and it is only the talent of Burkhead, and the legs of Martinez that makes it go anywhere. That will not change until they have an O-line that can actually open up some holes for someone, and protect a QB who is passing, even if he has the worst mechanics of any QB that Nebraska has ever had...at least if he had a little time, he might be able to do something... As far as the press goes, I don't really care how they treat Bo, or how he treats them....just win, Baby!
  25. Is it me, or does anyone else notice how Nebraska always plays down to lessor opponents? Gone are the days when we took pride in running the score up into the 40's, 50's, 60's, or even 70's on an opponent. And we did it with 3rd and 4th stringers. Now when we play a lessor opponent, we always let them stay close, or even take the lead by the half, then just barely win (when we win). Northwestern should have been an easy game, where we healed up some guys, and knew we would win by the half. That never happens anymore. Look at our non-conference games, and where they stood at half-time. When is the last time that we have had a lessor opponent, and actually played and scored like they were one from the start? What do we have to do to bring back the days when we could beat a lessor opponent handily, and get some of the younger kids some experience? Right now, if Martinez goes down, we have nobody with any real game experience. The trend at QB goes farther than that even, after the starting QB graduates, we have nobody to take his place that has real experience, and basically go into Spring practice with an open competition for the starting job, with the heir apparent usually being who ever the junior is. Martinez will gain more experience because there was no Junior to be the heir apparent...but because we have to give him game time, even if we do get a lead, nobody behind him is getting any experience. Cody Green was a perfect example of what happens then, last year. He would come into the game and look like he has never seen competition at that speed before...and screw up. So there is some value to winning big, and doubling up the score on opponents. It isn't just an "in your face" thing. It actually is key to the developement of future teams. Another thing I notice about Beck is that he never seems to make real changes when needed to the offense in the first half, but some how makes really sweet changes at the half, and we have a good series or two after the start of the half. Then it is like he pulls back the reigns, like he don't want the other team to see too much, and goes back to what wasn't working earlier. I know coaches script the first series or two, but it seems almost as if he is scripting the whole first half, and come hell or hight water, he isn't budging off the plan. It would be nice to see a time where he would make the changes as the game rolls along, and realize that the other team is not going to give him what he thought they might. So...throw those flames...I have my flame retardent suit on today. But these are observations that I have made over the past few years. Observations that I have to wonder if anyone else notices...if the coaches are aware of.
