  1. A huge part of coaching is putting the right staff together and facilitiating them doing their jobs. The right guys will make you look money, the wrong ones will make you look like a douche.
  2. S&C sucked under him here. Some have said he was just following orders from the football-staff and not doing his own deal. You better hope that is true, otherwise prepare to be bloated and slow.
  3. I think it is probably the yet-unnamed rb-coach. Out of the current guys I'd guess maybe Ekeler.
  4. What hurts is that if you think about what BC sold and what is being sold now they aren't congruent. These commits weren't sold on the tradition of hard-nosed Nebraska-football. They were sold on BC's "I'll get you to the NFL" snake-oil. The staff should do better closing on kids they've built a relationship with and who buy into what they are selling. Hopefully LSU's D stones the buckeyes. That could give us a nice boost going down the home-stretch. At-least on the defensive-side of the ball.
  5. Ganz definitely He knows the stuff we've been doing way better than the others and he has the wheels for the spread-option elements elements we are supposed to be adding. Hell, if Keller wasn't the big-name that I'll bet was pretty-much promised the starting job Ganz would have gotten his shot in the Mizzou or OSU game and would be considered a solid returning-starter. Sucks that if Ganz had gotten that early shot we could be getting ready for a bowl now.
  6. IMO Miles wanted the job but the AD didn't want him as much as the boosters did so he didn't close the deal like he should've. Miles got pissy and used his leverage for a nice raise from LSU, if he wins the championship that raise becomes enormous. Plus Miles has sworn up and down he is staying on multiple occasions. He'd look like a world-class POS if he jumps after that. I certainly wouldn't be shocked if Miles still takes the job but I don't think it will happen now.

    Glenn

I wouldn't call either of them an "every down" back. Lucky is the big name and he excels in the passing-game/open field but is meh between the tackles. Glenn(when healthy) is money between the tackles but is not the breakaway or receiving-threat Lucky is.
  8. Petrino is a good hire if he is looking to finally settle-down. Dude can definitely coach but has always been flirting with other jobs. As far as the NFL goes I think you'll see fewer guys jumping there. The success-rate for college-guys isn't very high(though Saban was obviously better than his successor at Miami and Kiffin isn't doing bad considering what little he has to work with) and the money/prestige of being a college-coach has definitely increased. IMO fewer college-guys will be tempted and fewer NFL-teams will throw big-$$$ at a college-guy that may well not work-out.
  9. Using the "I'll get you to the NFL" line was better at getting more *'s in the recruit-class than selling the tradition of hard-nosed Neb-football but it was also recipe for underachievment. The lack of bonding and motivation with BC really showed on the field. Bo had inside-slot ince the ATM game? Maybe the rumor-mill was on to things and the Callahan resignation with buy-out just couldn't be pulled-together. It could explain why Bo may have been a little off later in the season. I'm sure he was trying but the focus/clarity may not have been totally there with a big new job looming. Talking to each player individually is a great move. I like that they are already getting fired-up for next season. Should help with winter-conditioning.
  10. A big jump in quality, like in '03, leaves us at average in '08. It isn't fair to expect us to have the '03 defense 'in 08 because the starting-point is much lower. But don't forget how our D was screwed by poor S&C. Coaching isn't the only thing changing. Better S&C would have brought the D up significantly in the rankings, unimpressive but not the utter trainwreck it was. With first-rate S&C I think we'd have probably made it to 7-5(at-least 6-6) with the losses being more competitive. But also don't forget about our heavy graduation on D. We incur major losses at linebacker and corner. The D should be well-motivated anyway. Hopefully we can avoid the blow-outs and keep them motivated throughout the season.
  11. they really have to be sh**ty coaches to be worse than Coz and Elmo. but since Marvin will be coaching the DB's and Bo will be calling the Defensive plays for now, I think that we will be OK It does make me feel better that we do have a quality DC in Bo. Marvin blows Elmo's doors-off. If the other guys are a tie we still come-out much improved. Just gotta trust that Bo hired with his head and not his heart with the other guys. Chances are he did, but we won't know til we've played. S&C getting squared-away will definitely help. Having a team that can fly to tbe ball would have gotten us bowling and we wouldn't have been blown-out like we were.
  12. I just worry that our d-staff is very heavy on buddy-hires that are light on qualifications. Marvin rules but Bo is really sticking his neck-out with Ekler, Papuchis, and Carl. Maybe they are quality-guys with a fire in their belly that just needed an opportunity. I certainly hope that. But til they prove it I worry a bit.
  13. Good hire as long as he plans on staying-put. He can revamp the O, the Dick at qb will make that difficult. He actually took a pay-cut. Must have been pretty-unhappy. Wouldn't surprise me to see fewer guys jumping at the NFL. Most guys are back in college fairly quickly. Plus the money in college is coming-up.
  14. IMO Lucky looks like a solid 3rd-down back right-now but not the every-down back that gets you drafted early for the big money.
  15. If Pat White stayed healthy WV would be playing for all the marbles. If they can do it we can do it.
  16. The Spanish Inquisition didn't expect Bo Pelini.
  17. Nice, glad to see we are recognizing problems and attacking them. Some have said he was just following orders. But it doesn't look like TO buys that. Maybe we can get Bailey back?
  18. Rathman has Neb-ties and wouldn't come here to be rb-coach why would Bennett? I think either would come to try their hand at OC, but not to be a position-coach. If this is somehow true he'd be a hell of a hire, would he get running-game coordinator/assistant-HC or anything? I've heard that ex-KSU co-OC Greg Peterson is in the mix, he sounds more realistic.
  19. I liked ISU under McCarney, I guess I'll still root for them. I didn't care much for CU before but I like Hawkins so I kinda root for them now. I like Mangino and Kansas. Not big on KSU, I'll root for them a little as a fellow 12North-team but that is it. Mizzou? Same as KSU Texas = arrogance. I'll root for them against a noncon-power, maybe if a dog to OU. Otherwise not a fan. I have trouble rooting for OU, I'll cheer for them against a noncon-power but not otherwise. Tech, OSU, ATM, and Baylor I root-for against noncon opponents and as underdogs in the south.
  20. this list makes me think the report from grobe that TO was telling him he couldnt pick his assistants is BS. you really think barney cotton is that big of a deal? I believe it. Grobe is known for taking his coaches with him. Did it when he came to Wake from Ohio and he has had only two leave since. I don't see him being down with TO wanting him to keep Waton and hire some guys with Neb ties. Grobe wants his guys and TO wanted some of his guys. Whether he'd have gotten the job even if he agreed to take some guys TO wanted I don't know.
  21. I know Tom believed in forgiveness and football being a player's best shot in life. But there were definitely times he should've put the hammer-down, saving the program a beating while sending a clear message to other players about how things are done. Christian Peter falls in that category. I realize he eventually got his act together(and props for that) but the likes of him and LP scarred TO's best years as a coach and put a program that had been known for "doing it right" in a very negative light.
  22. Ark would be smart to make a strong play for Kelly before Mich finally wises-up. Petrino is supposed to be in the mix. For a name that big after getting shot-down a couple times I'd imagine the $$ would be big. After that I'd go for maybe a Bud Foster-possibly the best DC in the country. Muschamp is supposed be pretty Pelini-esque June Jones is supposed to be interested in UCLA, maybe he'd want Ark. Leach is always out there.
  23. Problem was we were getting plenty of JUCO-guys but running complex schemes that made JUCO-guys less-effective. I'd expect Bo and Watson's schemes to be a little easier, that should increase the likelihood of JUCO-guys really contributing. I don't see Watson changing a lot but should be enough that we don't have to run to the sidelines to get plays anyway.
  24. UCLA got shelled with injuries this year. I hope Norvelle can catch-on somewhere else. Chris Peterson already turned the job down. Leach's name comes-up frequently. Others include Neuheisel and their current DC DeWayne Walker.
  25. His first mission should be finding a way to keep Jon Tenuta there. Him and Tenuta would make a great combo. Second, he'll need to find a qb that can run. Of course he'll be looking to throw the ball significatntly more than he did at Navy but his system still relies on a qb that can move.
