  1. Hooray! Congratulations! I'm sure you're right about being wrapped around her finger - I'm a fool for my little girl, too. I think it goes with the territory of being a dad of a little girl. The next several months are going to be trying for you while she's in the potted plant stage, but once she starts talking she'll be daddy's girl. There are no better words in the English language than, "I love you, daddy." :thumbs
  2. Really interesting comments by Carl today, as covered by Sipple HERE. An exerpt: Anthony Blue was mentioned by Christopherson in an earlier blog about the secondary. Just about any way you slice it, we're going to be stacked in the defensive backfield this year.
  3. Hannah Storm can pull off that outfit. I don't see what her age has to do with anything. You either have that body or you don't. All I care about is whether it's appropriate for the setting. The guys are wearing shirts and ties or suits, and she's wearing a miniskirt. There shouldn't be two dress codes for equal employees. If she's on the same level as the guys, dress to the same level.
  4. I had completely missed this! How/why was this not better publicized? Did the Olympics suck all the attention away from this? I think it's a pretty big deal that we finally won it again. Congratulations!
  5. Husker Football of nearly any kind is a fun event as far as I'm concerned. After a long, bitter winter with no sports and next to no outdoors time, spending a Spring day in the sun at Memorial Stadium is a wonderful thing to do. Even if the football is exhibition-level only, it's better than nothing. And you can't beat an excuse to tailgate.
  6. Tray may be working extra hard, but he fills a different role on the team than Burkhead, so it's not necessarily true that because Tray is working it, Burkhead has to in order to keep up. Helu and Burkhead are fighting for the same snaps, while Robinson is looking at different situations like short-yardage or change-of-pace.
  7. I was just thinking that! Let's hope no one is Bo Pelini's Barry Switzer I have a feeling Bo Pelini is going to end up being Mack Brown's Barry Switzer.
  8. Agreed, Chef. While they are a relatively modern people in Iran, they are completely unreasonable when it comes to Israel - much like the rest of the Middle East.
  9. Hannah Storm is a fine looking woman. She looks nice in that outfit in the OP. But I get where Kornheiser is coming from in that the men on ESPN are all wearing suits or shirts and ties, while she's wearing a go-go outfit from the 60s. If the guys are wearing dressier clothes, the women should, too. He did go way over the top in his comments, but that's Kornheiser. It's not like ESPN didn't know what they were getting when they hired the guy. I have little sympathy for them when they know the guy's schtick, hire him, and then suspend him for his schtick. Duh.
  10. This may be better suited to Classifieds, but I think the topic is of general interest to many so I moved it to the Lounge instead. Sorry - I don't know about any discount for being a member. I went over there and bought a bunch of stuff a couple of weeks ago and got a discount by going there in person, but nothing for mentioning I tracked the site down through HuskerBoard.
  11. Of course he would make it. He never won less than nine games. He had players who played their hearts out every game. He did things "the Husker way." He's a home-grown guy. He brought in characters the fans loved. He was relevant on the national scene nearly every year. He vied for the conference title nearly every year. Sure, there would have been times when people griped about him, but would he have been canned? Not without a really, really unscrupulous AD pushing him out the door. Give him a guy as savvy as Devaney as an AD and he'd have "made it" for sure.
  12. If you're talking about Iran, it's not a small part of their population. They're a very modern country amongst their youth. The problem is their huge gap in ages. They had that horrific war vs. Iraq in the 80s that cost hundreds of thousands of lives due to ridiculous World War I tactics combined with use of gas and poor generalship. Iran lost a couple of generations of youth in that conflict, and now has an extremely young population (1/3 under the age of 30) with a much older ruling body. There is a serious disconnect between the youth and the older rulers. Combine that with the fact that many of the best and brightest Iranians are now expats or completely dispossessed living abroad for fear of political persecution (supporters of the Shah) or simply looking for freedom/education that they aren't allowed in Iran, and you'll see why those living in Iran most likely deserve our pity than our scorn. That doesn't mean Iran isn't a very dangerous tiger, or that the youth, if forced, won't fight a war against us if their rulers make it happen. What really concerns me is their nuke program, and Israel's determination to see it stop. It's going to be a seriously bad thing if the Israelis take matters into their own hands. And Iran doesn't need nukes - the situation there is stable enough without them. Giving Iran nukes ramps up the likelihood they'll be used 100-fold. Bad news.
  13. Not sure I've seen this game since 1983. Check out the false start not being called on our TE at 2:59. I really like those uniforms, too. Man, Turner Gill was a sight to behold. Possibly the best QB ever at Nebraska. I could watch him play all day.
  14. Lazlo's has some good beers. I enjoy their wheat beer. The Omaha Lazlo's is near my work so sometime's I'll have a beer with lunch. Don't tell my boss. lol I cannot tell you how jealous I am of you.
  15. I like Sam Adams, or Boulevard, and when I go to a SaltDogs game here in Lincoln they serve Leinenkugel's Red for the same price as Budweiser, and that's a heck of a beer with a couple of dogs. When I'm in the mood for a treat at home I buy Chaco Canyon Honey Gold from Lazlo's (local Lincoln microbrew). It's a heck of a beer.
  16. I can't believe you said that. Tommie wasn't that good? In context, that's a wholly true and logical comment. I don't see how anyone could have an issue with it.
  17. I had misgivings about that game. I remember how impressive Florida was throughout 2005, but I also remember that they hadn't played the same schedule we had played, and thinking we'd win - but in a close game. I figured we couldn't stop them from scoring but that we could shorten the game with our ball-control ground game. We watched the game at the home of my wife's work buddy. Both she and her husband were Florida alums. After the first quarter I was not feeling too comfortable, but felt we weren't in any trouble. It was an exciting game. After the second quarter, we spent most of halftime trying to cheer up our hosts with comments like, "You guys could come back..." and the like. I spent the whole second half holding in my glee. One thing - Tommie gets way too much credit for "The Run." The Gators gave up on that play. That's pretty obvious. Yeah, he fought on and tore out of their grasp, but they were barely giving a half-hearted effort to bring him down. Florida's defense wasn't SO bad, nor was Tommie SO good, that he could break away from seven determined tacklers. It was just a case of a team being mentally and emotionally beaten, and Tommie and the Huskers at their peak. Read the context of what I wrote, people. I never said Tommie Frazier wasn't good. It's ridiculous to gig my post if you're not reading it correctly. Sheesh.
  18. Absolutely. I watched the Men's free skate live, with all the drama between Lysacek and Plushenko and Johnny Weir and all that... and the guy I thought skated best came in fourth or fifth. I get the athleticism of the whole thing... it just seems silly to me. I'm not a dancer either, so that's probably part of it.
  19. Not sure why it's an Olympic sport, but it's fun to watch. I caught the Americans beating the Brits yesterday on a couple of tactical errors by the Brits. Fun stuff.
  20. We saw lots of Husker sweatshirts when we lived in San Francisco. Nebraska isn't exactly the best climate in the world, so folks either move away or vacation elsewhere, but we take our Husker pride with us. Like most everyone else around here, half to 3/4 of my t-shirts are Husker shirts, so whenever I was out hiking or at the beach or running errands, I was wearing my Husker gear out there, too.
  21. You mean only fluke games AND INCONSISTENCY will cost us. Now don't mistake this for motivation b/c it's clear that Bo knows how to get the troops fired up for every game. We were way to too inconsistent last year & that just cannot be the case if we really expect to do some damage. Just think about some of our games last year. Against VaTech, the inconsistency of our offense cost us the game b/c they couldn't convert solid drives into TDs. Mizzou would've beaten us if it weren't for a great comeback in the 4th, which was night & day compared to the 1st 3 quarters of that game. TT we played carelessly & just didn't execute, which was a far cry from the rest of our games. "Inconsistent" is the only word that comes to mind for that game. Vs Baylor, we dominated the 1st half to go up 20-0, but then almost let off the gas too much. Baylor shut us out in the 2nd half & should have scored at least another TD to make it a 3-pt game in the final 3 minutes. Sure. I didn't list every one of the 1,000 things that can damage a team, of course. Flukes and inconsistency are only two of them.
  22. If the offense is even marginally better and the defense takes a step backwards without Suh, we'll still be a better overall team this year than last. Only fluke occurrences like an eight-turnover game will keep us from a better record.
  23. I could give you my opinion as to why the Gabbys got off clean, but I would probably just sound like a bitter Tiger hater so I'll refrain. I would imagine our opinions would be about the same.
  24. As young as this team is, they're not horrible. They're OK. I hate to say this, but maybe next year with some maturity and added strength/bulk, these guys can contend.
