  1. The Allman Brothers would be proud of Ndamukong Suh this week. Brian Christopherson has a rundown of Suh's traveling plans this week: I chopped this up quite a bit for brevity. BC has much more info on what's going on where, with whom in his article. Full Article
  2. That attitude hasn't gone anywhere. I don't read these comments as dismissing that attitude, I see them as angst over a very real problem we're having on offense.
  3. Very well said! And to answer Vince's question - yes, I think our DEF coaches are far better than our OFF coaches. Not all of them, across the board, but at certain positions, the difference is dramatic.
  4. What really annoys me is to see all these media outlets continually pumping up the Texas game as the reason to vote for Suh. It says to me that these guys have given him short shrift all season long, have probably not paid attention to him until this weekend, and thus he really has no shot at this. And why? Because the "experts" are too myopic to see the impact of the defense on the game. It's easy to see a RB take off down field, make a move or two, and gain 20 yards. Middle-School kids get why that's impactful. Same goes for a QB chucking the ball 30 yards down field into tight coverage, or a WR weaving through the secondary. These are easily quantifiable things - the low-hanging fruit of college football - and since most people don't grasp the niceties of defense, a guy has to be SO OVERWHELMINGLY DOMINANT on D that you can't possibly not notice him before he even gets a whiff of respect. I'm tired of "experts" making my game into something it's not. I'm tired of "experts" not truly grasping the game as a whole. I'm tired of one side of the ball being ignored because it takes a little work to understand. Bah.
  5. What is absurd about that vote is that Suh is getting next to no second or third place votes. There are way too many people who have biases against a defensive player winning this thing.
  6. Seismologists at the University of Nebraska were excited to report Nebraska's first major earthquake in 100 years Monday, only to learn later that the shaking of the earth was actually caused by Ndamukong Suh stamping his feet in the cold.
  7. Kansas will be in full-on meltdown mode by the time their bus rolls into Lincoln. We'll probably have to give them a jump start and a spare tire to get them on their way home again. That program has disaster written all over it.
  8. I'm not so sure he'll be a HC. He may go to the NFL. I heard on FOX radio last night that Weis' contract with Notre Dame stipulates that they don't have to pay him some or all of his remaining contract if he becomes HC at another school, but they do have to pay him (or give him the buyout, or whatever) if he is an Assistant somewhere. It makes sense to see Weis in the NFL again. He was very successful with the Patsies, and rumors have the Bears interested in him. But if we could afford him, I'd love to see him come here, check his ego, and put this offense on the right path.
  9. This is exactly correct. I spent the better part of this season saying Lee should be our quarterback and that it was the right choice. However, it's become clear that Lee has not progressed through the season, and the argument could be made that he has regressed. If Lee is not capable of moving the offense, we are better off putting Green in now. There is nothing to play for this season. We have some recruits to impress and it would be nice if we were ranked at the end, but we're not gunning for any kind of title. It costs us nothing at this point to put Green in. If he's the guy we're banking on for the next three years, it's foolish to have burned his redshirt for (by my guesstimate) 86 plays. That's barely more than one game's worth of snaps. We're fools if we burned his shirt for that. Green should start this game. If he doesn't, he should see significant playing time. If not, this season is a blunder on the part of our staff.
  10. Four coaches didn't rank the Huskers in their top 25: Todd Dodge - North Texas Steve Kragthorpe - Louisville Rick Neuheisel - UCLA DeWayne Walker - New Mexico State Here's an interactive chart showing where each coach ranked the teams: LINK
  11. Hard to say, but we have a very strong chance of being even better next year. Losing Asante, O'Hanlon, Phil Dill and Suh will hurt, but we've got talent coming in behind them, and not mediocre talent, at that. At DT we'll return Crick. Bing. We'll have our choice of Steinkuhler or Moore on the other side, and if you noticed when those guys came in this year to give Suh and Crick a breather, not much changed. Moore has the coaches giddy for next year already. He was neck and neck with Crick in Spring and Summer this year, and if I remember correctly he got banged up in camp and slowed down a little. They're saying he's back at 100% and ready to go. Nobody will be as good as Suh, but overall we'll be just fine. At LB we'll have Compton, Fisher, May and Eric Martin. Martin looks like he could be an absolute terror and could replace the physical run-stopping presence we enjoy with Dillard. Overall, the LB corps looks to improve simply because they won't be first-year starters. There's a lot of talent between Fisher, Compton and May – they just need to translate that into action on the field, and judging by the rest of the defense's improvement overall, I'd say that's likely to happen. In the secondary we will, again, miss Asante. He brings the lumber and provides that physical presence you need back there. He's good against the pass and the run, and his experience is invaluable. But, we've got Hagg and Thenarse coming back at Safety, and with guys like Amukamara, Dennard, Gomes and Thorell on the corners, we'll be OK. I don't see a lot of drop off in the secondary, if any at all, and without some of the unfortunate plays Asante makes, we may be as good or better. Taking the defense as a whole, we stand to be as good as this year because we'll have better experience at LB than we have this year, and the DL will once again be stout. We have playmakers in the secondary and we have a BOATLOAD of Freshmen coming in that will push everyone at every position. Competition will be fierce, and the defense should be intimidating. I can't wait.
  12. Ankrah, Cam Meredith and Eric Martin have me giddy for next year, along with returning guys like Dennard, Crick, Steinkuhler, Moore, Allen, Compton, Fisher, Amukamara, Dennard... the list goes on on defense. If we are even competent on offense next year, we'll be a top ten team all season long. One note - Jake Locker is a Junior, and I haven't heard anything about him going pro. I would not be surprised at all to see him next year in Seattle.
  13. Self control is an important thing. Sadly, some people learn about it the hard way.
  14. I think people are ignoring you, KC. Sorry. But I've seen several clips of the whole O Line, or one or two guys, doing this. It's what they're coached to do, and it's a little silly, but I wouldn't be surprised in film the next day if that kid wasn't the one who got praised.
  15. Awesome, and of course well deserved. One down. More to follow.
  16. I would be shocked if it was. If Heisman voters could be swayed by something like a movie, the award is even more meaningless than we think it is.
  17. Thank goodness for the Sun Belt or we wouldn't be ranked nearly that high.
  18. I really like our field. I think it looks awesome.
  19. Welcome to the Board. I see you've met our duplicate post monster. Sorry about that. September 12, 2010 is a Sunday. I think maybe you're looking at this season's schedule? Not sure about that. I agree that we need a playoff. Legislated parity combined with 120 teams in one division make this process untenable. TCU & Boise are getting screwed. The BCS bosses are cowards, plain and simple. They're afraid that if they put these teams up against the other BCS schools that they'd end up with three undefeated teams, and possibly four. I hope against hope that Cincy beats Florida. You know the BCS overlords are ready to sacrifice their first-born to ensure a Gator win. I'll guarantee you that game has the most "blown" calls of any game all year long. The Texas/Alabama winner will be undefeated. The TCU/Boise winner will be undefeated. Cincy beats Florida to go undefeated. That's my dream scenario. GIVE ME BACK MY SPORT, YOU #)(*#$#)#)'s!!!!!!
  20. Funny how people didn't take this conversation all that seriously before we lost in the fashion we did over the weekend. There are a lot of hurt feelings around lately. Having this discussion in the wake of those hurt feelings isn't the most productive thing to do. I'll guarantee nobody is talking like this when we win the CCG next year. Just sayin'.
  21. Depends. We've had some troubling lapses on defense this year. There have been times when this defense has played brilliantly, and there have been times when I've cringed watching them. I know this - I wouldn't trade these guys for anyone else in the nation, and I'd have said that before the CCG, easy.
  22. There wasn't much discussion because it was pretty obvious the RB made it out of the end zone. I'm surprised someone would write about this.
  23. Duh - Nutt is looking for another raise. Shoulda figured that one out. Bradr's comment about the Nebraska/Nutt search jogged my memory.
  24. You're new so maybe people will go easy on you, but that is an absurd statement. Welcome to the board. Very absurd. Maybe Vinman just started watching Husker football at the CCG game?
