  1. If FAU's outstanding talent and unshakeable confidence prevails against Alabama this week, everyone wins.
  2. Nicely done. And I didn't know we could say "mutherfukker" on HuskerBoard until now!
  3. Again, big optimist about this season. Loved the opening win. But the title of the thread suggests we weren't concerned about rankings in recent years, when in fact we were in the exact same place: 1 - 0 after the opening game and expecting Nebraska to be ranked at the end of the season, higher the better. Advising caution at this point doesn't equate to mudslinging, nor does it take away my enjoyment of a well-played season opener. I'm just trying to avoid premature ejaculation.
  4. No chief, the AP and Coaches Poll are in virtual lockstep with each other and always have been. No idea where you're finding evidence of your claim. If you're still sore about 1997, be thankful Nebraska got its own share of the National Championship. The Coaches that year had also ranked Michigan above Nebraska after our near disaster against Missouri, and it's pretty rare for a team to go undefeated, win their bowl game and drop a position. I think the Huskers earned it that year, but much of the country thought the Coaches were being sentimental (biased) in bucking tradition and awarding the spot to Tom Osborne, who some believe made his pre-game retirement announcement for that very reason. They want to pick and choose which poll as the argument suits them. No argument there.
  5. Either that, or we just played the team that fired Bo's brother a few months ago. This. That game was an "ax to grind", "look what they did to one our former family members" game. Something that always has been an easy motivation tool for this staff. Little known fact: John McNeese once beat Jebediah Pelini with a shovel during an argument involving stolen cattle. Any truth to the rumor that this was the impetus to Jebediah Pelini having an unfortunate streak of losing four steers every year? Do you have any idea how difficult it is for a Division 1 cattle rustler to steal nine or more head of cattle in six consecutive years?
  6. Which is not a small thing, given that he had to simultaneously focus on making a circus catch. The Hail Mary involved a bit of luck (the actual catch was right in the breadbasket) and Davidson's miracle against Missouri was insanely lucky. Bell's one-handed TD reception last year with the ball spinning in his hand remains a fave, although you gotta watch in slow motion to appreciate.

  9. I feel good, but I wouldn't dream of suggesting we've passed any test. This was just the first of 12 or so questions.
  10. Well the BCS used to wait half a season before releasing its rankings, which were more binding than the others. People may argue about preseason and early season rankings, but I'm not sure they want them to go away. They're too much fun to argue about. There's a bigger problem with late-season losses than early season rankings. If a one-loss team loses early, it won't get punished like the team that loses its one game late in the season, regardless of conference. As Al Davis used to say, Just Win, Baby.
  11. And when Colorado crushed Nebraska in 2001, we dropped only two spots and were allowed to play for the National Championship. Yes. This is getting stupid.
  12. the media jackasses are probably more qualified than the coaches, i'd wager. Or even if not more qualified, they have more time to look at results before voting. Yep. Even the coaches admit this. They tend to reflect the AP poll closely. Some even give their beat reporter their vote. One of the only problems I have with the AP is the fact that they "seem" to be a lot easier on SEC teams that lose and harder on all other conferences when they lose. They do have a lot more time to evaluate teams than the coaches do, I will agree with that. There is the belief that the SEC currently has more better teams than most conferences, and although we don't all like or agree with that assesment, it's not necessarily biased. Since the coaches poll is nearly identical to the media poll every week, you can't really call the AP out.
  13. You would have to know the history of John McNeese, who the univeristy is named after, to understand where the mascot name came from. Doc I guess you'd have to care enough to look it up on Wikipedia. But absent that, could you give us the executive summary?

  15. Tommy's 52% completion percentage didn't bother me at all. He passes the eye test. He's already a playmaker. He was last year, too, under less than ideal circumstances. He's got a better arm than Tommie Frazier and Scott Frost, and he's not far behind with his legs. His footwork is already outstanding. QB is about leadership, and Armstrong carried himself like a leader right out of the gate. Why not enjoy him?
  16. ESPN and the dreaded national media have given Westerkamp's catch more mad props than the average Husker fan.
  17. You have a point. Three days after beating Florida Atlantic may not be the best time to worry that our undefeated regular season won't be properly appreciated.
  18. I don't feel like starting a new thread, so I'll just tag on here that the Jamal Turner experiment seems to be over. He might yet get a big play or two this year, but his promise as a game-changer has burned out, and a slew of receivers have now surpassed him. Same thing could happen to Cross if he enters his Senior season with coaches and fans high on Newby and Taylor and a blue-chip Freshman just entering the coversation.
  19. Imani Cross scored as many touchdowns as Ameer Abdullah Saturday. He had one more rushing touchdown than Ameer Abdullah last season. The coaches obviously trust Imani Cross. But they don't treat him like the #2 I-Back. They treat him like a fullback. I honestly don't know how Cross feels about the current situation, but as a spectator something doesn't feel quite right.
  20. I don't think we wanted Miami to lose. Nebraska's SOS in the Big 10 could become an issue. According to John Feinstein program this morning, if there are 5 major conferences and only 4 seats at the playoff table, the Big 10 is looking shaky. We need to be rooting big time for MSU vs. Oregon this week.
  21. No matter what happens next, this injury could easily cost Randy Gregory a couple million dollars.
  22. "Doubtful" for McNeese State sounds really promising at this point, but since I refuse to answer any potential advertising spam in order to read content, can somebody give me the "likely" return scenario, as knee surgery is typically not minor for anyone in the high-performance industry?
  23. I learned today - not yesterday - that if you type "jordan w" into Google, Jordan Westerkamp is the 7th Jordan listed"
  24. I was a little surprised Cross didn't get more carries early, and none late. Coaches seem to have a ton of faith in him in high pressure situations...third downs, fourth downs, inside the 10.....but the limited carries are starting to strike me as odd. If you have 19 carries between Newby and Cross, no idea why it wouldn't be more equitable. Cross has NFL potential and deserves a chance to show it.
