  1. The university put that up to honor the fans. The fans did not put that up to honor themselves. Because of this, I do not see it as arrogant and self-congratulatory (edit: or bragging). I see it as a gesture of appreciation.
  2. Yes but it would be a true neutral field. Well not really, as Baton Rouge is a lot closer to Dallas than Lincoln/Omaha ... but hey it's still a very easy drive.
  3. I tell ya, these guys have class. I went to the Alamobowl a few years ago, the one with the crazy finish. An enduring memory is the Michigan marching band marching up the end zone where all the Husker fans were (bought my tickets through the university), and playing a tribute to NU and their fans. Very classy. If the whole conference is like that, then this is where NU belongs and will fit right in.
  4. Couldn't agree with you more. Would love to be leaving the Big 12 as their champion. Great way to stick it to them in my opinion. And beat TU twice on the way.
  5. I have what might be an interesting take on this. I am an older guy who is about to adopt some children out of foster care, including boys and girls. The oldest is 7. Their life experience up until the time they were placed with us has been less than ideal, which impacts their behavior, self esteem, respect for authority, etc. I plan to expose them to as much as I can in the way of sports, dance, cheer, religion, martial arts, whatever I can. Yes we will be busy, but some things will stick and some will not. Hopefully each will find one passion that they stick with through adolescence. I can provide discipline and and life lessons, but much of what they will learn will be outside of my house. I think this is probably true for kids in traditional homes as well.
  6. A rather large number. Take it from someone who knows.
  7. I am not a lawyer or anything resembling one, but here is my take anyway. I think that if NU can establish that UT did not act in good faith either when "negotiating" with the PAC 10 or when giving NU the "ultimatum", then I think NU has a case for not paying any penalties. In other words, if UT was trying to influence NU to leave by lying about possibly going to the PAC-10, and then trying to force NU to make a decision, then NU won't owe a thing. I think that there is a decent chance that this is exactly what happened.
  8. It's kind of like breaking up with your girlfriend. It sucks...until the next hot chick comes along then you forget all about the sneaky-snake, underhanded, over-demanding, two-faced crap that skank of a ho pulled on you. I know....I have an ex-wife Man I love it here.
  9. Problem is, I know Nike's stuff is made overseas for pennies. I don't know about Adidas but I'm guessing it's the same.
  10. I think that is the most logical way I have seen to look at this.
  11. Coming from someone who has no control or real stake in the matter other than a biased observer, my one regret here is that we were not able to begin the process of redemption against the teams that took us to the woodshed during the Callahan years. OSU, Tech, TU, etc. It began against OU. Leach leaving left me a little sour. It felt like it was time to start aligning the stars in their proper orbit again. Or whatever. Edit: Stars in their proper orbit. Isn't that a little bit like Blutarski in Animal House, "Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?"
  12. I don't care whether they hate us or not. What I do care about is college football degenerating into NFL Lite, 4 super conferences and a playoff and the College Super Bowl and all that. For those reasons, I do hope that the BXII stays together.
  13. I only read the first page of course, but some of those folks were downright civil.
  14. Now that would be awesome. The first part anyway.
  15. 1. In D1-A academics are unparalleled in the B10. Pac 10 is impressive (think Stanford, USC, Cal), but they don't compare to the B10 overall. The CIC membership is huge in my mind. 2. Revenue sharing, although I don't know what this looks like in the Pac 10. NU is arguably the second biggest brand name in the BXII, but they were fifth in revenue last year, meaning (IMHO) we brought more value to the table than we were receiving. 3. The Big Ten network is already in place. For some reason, Dan Beebe and the Big XII leftovers (the Little XI?) were hell bent on letting Texas have their Longhorn network. 4. Not sure the Pac 10 really wanted us? 5. Travel scenarios are even worse. 6. We would be competing against UT again for political power in the conference. The B10 are more considered equals. That's what I've heard, anyway. Time will tell us what reality is, I guess. If the BXII were to survive with NU, Beebe would have had to grow some grapes and knock UT off their high horse. That was not going to happen. They were going to get their network and its revenue, and the rest of the conference was going to be on the outside looking in. Unacceptable. Outside of that, moving to the B10 is the best thing from a fan standpoint that could have happened (think TV if nothing else), and great for the university and state outside of athletics as well.
  16. There's a whole lotta trash talking going on here, so I'm going to add my little bit. NU's going to own the B10. All we have to do is own Ohio St, Penn St, Michigan, Iowa ... wait a minute, what the HELL just happened here??
  17. I nominate this post as the post of the year.
  18. i don't see what's wrong with just having it in arlington every year. Now that it's not a home game for half the damn conference, I wouldn't mind that a bit.
  19. I still have family in San Antone and went down for Christmas that year. Had to go to the bowl game, y'know. Other than the crazy finish, two memories stand out for me. One is the Michigan band saluting the Husker fans in the end zone seating, which is where I was. I thought that was very classy. The other is this; my niece had just graduated from Converse Judson high school. Judson's color is red. I've seen their stadium, it's bigger than any high school field I've ever seen. It's as big as Caniglia Field here in Omaha (edit: could be wrong, but it's big and holds a lot of red-clad people), which is where UNO plays. So I asked her, have you ever seen this much red. Her answer: Um, yeah. Of course, Judson's own Titus Brothers assisted Zack Bowman on the game saving tackle. That was cool.
  20. I'm guilty of that myself. I would watch K-St/MU on FSN even if there was a 1-2 matchup on ABC. And I don't even like those two teams. It's the conference/regional thing I guess. Really, I just have to look at myself and laugh.
  21. That simplifies things too much. The conference would have imploded at some point in the not too distant future, and NU might very well have been left out in the cold. If the thing was weak enough that one major player leaving causes it to crumble, then it is time for the walls to come tumbling down.
  22. I think we're gonna have to let that argument go. Not.
  23. They will suck the life out of any conference they join. Go West Big Orange, Go West.
  24. The mighty Longhorns program asking to be accepted into the Big 10? But I thought everybody wanted them? I am a former native Texan and let me tell you, I want to be far far away from those a-holes. If the Big 12 stayed somewhat intact and we had the chance to beat up on them the next few years that would be great, but moving to a new conference is a new beginning. It's time to be done with them and move on to new traditions now.
  25. Clemson would raise the academic acumen of that league immensely. Agreed. But more than anything, I just don't wanna be left behind... Complements of Baylor Kirk Cameron looking all rough and unshaven. That just hurts my eyes.
