  1. I would argue against this point being that Nebraska doesn't have colleges of Math, Computer Science, or Chemistry, but I guess that's probably beside the point. Okay, those may be departments within a college, but the point remains the same. Big 10+1 schools think, quite erroneously, they are far superior in academics to UNL when nothing could be further from the truth. Furthermore, I'll put my degree in Journalism & Mass Communications from the University Nebraska up against anyone with a comparable degree from any school. I know it is not at UNL, but name me a Big 10 school with a better Medical Center (besides Northwestern, obviously) than Nebraska....... I think you would be hard pressed, considering it is the world destination for many of those with transplant needs. It has the world's foremost expert on Hodgkin's disease and Lymphoma that the Mayo clinic turns to for advice. That should get us some points.
  2. That article is drivel and full of assumptions and libel (or is it slander). I don't like what the guy did more than anyone else, but at least I try being fair to him in retrospect. So you tell me, what exactly did the guy say in his blog that fits the legal definition? First of all, as a former Head Coach of the University of Nebraska in this region he would be considered a public figure therefore free of libel especially in a website blog. Secondly, I would say that is exactly what happened during the Callahan era.
  3. Seriously, no one is going to comment on this? This is the only thing that has been stated that makes any sense and completely puts all the blame on Cody and kudos on the program for stopping it before violations occurred. By the way, who cares if the stat rape thing is true? Blame the father or family of the young lady if you don't like it. They could have pressed charges, doubtful that any of that actually happened. Pretty immature to make up a story and when you are proven wrong start publicly accusing everyone you can think of..here we go I heard that Trev Alberts is involved, too. He was training under TO and wanted to know how to cover up things the right way. You know, learn from the master. This is ridiculous, if you really believe this then go public to a newspaper. If you don't want to do that because you don't want to draw attention to it, that would be correct because the family didn't want to either. Also, the tix selling this was the first rumor on here. I think that is probably the truth. P.S. If you pay attention to the NFL after Roger Goodell took over as commissioner you know how scrutinized the teams and players are. They have to keep their nose clean or they will be suspended causing bad press and loss of a talented player. Knowing that, do you still believe that they wouldn't investigate everything as completely as possible? You don't think they would make sure they were making an intelligent investment worth millions of dollars. I would guess you are a college student and don't understand business, especially they handling of millions of dollars. Sorry, braskypants, I don't think your story holds water.
  4. That is said about QBs for teams that have no talent, because they get sacked and beat up! Beating UT or OU says far more than EVER beating any Big 12 north team, until they RAISE their level of play/TALENT! So it is more impressive to pull off upsets than to be competitive in your own league? Okay, I get it..... 2 years in a row, and on the ROAD, when the OTHER team was talking about REVENGE and saying their SOFT QB was knocked out to excuse the loss. They ended up losing at home by 3 TDs! This is ridiculous, you are actually saying you would be happy as a Bucs fan if they beat the second best NFC team every year but never had a winning record, and Freeman threw interceptions and consistently made bad decisions while shrugging it off in every other game? How long would that coach and QB be around? That's what I thought.

  6. The way I look at the secondary is this: The secondary was abysmal in 2007. They got better and were only bad at the beginning of 2008. They got better over the season and were only below average by the Gator Bowl. They've gotten better and were average for the spring game. (Plus the defense was in the base 4-3 all game even when the offense had 3+ receivers.) So if you're looking for a dominant defense, then the secondary is indeed very troubling. But if you're looking for improvement, then there were some positive signs. To add to that, a secondary can only be good if a d-line is talented. Our d-line was average at the beginning of 2008, but when Suh stepped up the whole line stepped up, and our secondary started to look better because they were pressuring the quarterback more effectively. Sure pressuring the QB helps, but so does having DBs that can flat out play football. All the d-line pressure in the world won't help if you can't cover your man, or close your damn zone. Some of these guys just need to step the hell up already. Otherwise there will be nothing but scarlet jerseys for all of them again this year! 1. It does if they sack the quarterback before he can get the pass off, no? 2. Easy...it's just the spring. You can't sack the QB every play. Tell that to the 77,000+ who showed up on Saturday! No you can't, but a few sacks plus a few hurries will get the offense to change the game plan. It is easier to cover a 3 step drop as opposed to 5. A lot of OC will move to this if they don't have the protection. Pressure will cause a QB to hurry, short hop, overthrow, rush reads and throw into coverage, and above all else take off out of the pocket. On the other hand, the best secondary on the planet cannot cover receivers forever without pressure on a QB. ALL Division 1 QBs can pick apart an offense when they have time to find the right guy. There is no substitute for pressure on a QB in football, regardless of the level you are discussing. No substitute, and if you can get it from the DL all the better. Suh will make a big difference this year as long as the opposing DL command one and a half blocks or at least tie up a lineman. A dominant DT can win you 2 games by himself. Why do you think Albert Haynesworth signed for $100 million??
  7. Florida Atlantic: W 31-17 Arkansas St: W 56-0 @ Va. Tech: W 28-14 Louisiana-Lafayette: W 45-14 @ Missouri: W 35-21 Texas Tech: W 38-28 Iowa State: W 70-3 @ Baylor: W 42-35 Oklahoma: L 17-24 @ Kansas: W 28-24 Kansas State: W 63-10 @ Colorado: W 35-24 Big XII Champ. Texas/OU: L 21-49 Decent Bowl bid will result from an 11-2 record. This is all if no major players are injured. You can tell me I'm drinking Kool-Aid if you want, but I see a talent gap between us and the rest of the conference except OU/UT. We have something we have been missing, speed! There is speed all over the field now, and you can go a long way with a stud DT like Suh. KU, BU, CU are the only ones I see as not a sure thing besides the two losses. I really like Pelini's chances against a very similar team as last year in VT. I don't think that game will ever be in doubt, honestly. He has the speed to use different pressure schemes than last year. We were very risky when we brought pressure last year because of a lack of speed in the back 7, not so this year. We will improve in the secondary, watch PJ Smith. He will be a starter by the middle of the season. Just my $.02.
  8. Whoa now. What's not to love about a southern belle? Seeing her tooth when she smiles... Wow! Game, set, match. Score one for Jen!!
  9. I believe you have 10 semesters of eligibility but you only have a maximum of 8 to participate in intercollegiate games in a single sport. Therefore he would have 2 left for a secondary sport.
  10. I know someone close to the situation, said that Paul ran a stop sign and didn't pay the fine and didn't show up for court. His license was revoked for that, he has an attitude of "I'm Ahman Green's cousin and I play for NU, what are you going to do to me?" Think maybe him having the best character on the team maybe the opinion of people that have no idea what his character is?
  11. That is arguably the dumbest thing I have ever seen. I hope it is supposed to be a joke.
  12. Did you read the letter? I made it larger and highlighted the part that you are arguing. That is right out of the NCAA bylaws. For chrissakes, why is it so hard to realize that it is against the rules and that you can't and shouldn't do it. f'ing A, Cotton. f'ing A.
  13. You really think Helu's eligibility was in jeopardy from a random fan selling a t-shirt on eBay? Trust me it wasn't. Also, do you know how many millions of dollars are being made off of college athletes by ESPN and ABC? And you're bothered by a creative fan pulling in enough for a pizza and a movie ticket? Really, you don't think the NCAA wouldn't do everything it could to make an example of this? Why should I trust you? You know absolutely zilch more than any of us, and much less than Josh whatever from the University compliance office. And yes, I am absolutely bothered by the fact that one more person is trying to make money off of a bunch of kids that generate millions for others and don't get a dime back of it. Granted the education is nice, but shouldn't they get something for sacrificing their bodies for the University? Why do you think it is okay for some "creative fan" (which I will say is used awfully loosely considering their are T shirts just like this with every celebrity known featured. i.e. Barack Obama is my Homeboy, Jesus is my Homeboy, etc.) to make money off of these kids that get nothing but then in the same sentence show an obvious disdain for the TV companies that pay millions of dollars in licensing fees to televise these games. Just because it is the little guy doesn't make it any different, it is still wrong. I applaud the person that turned this in, if he hadn't I would have.
  14. I did not know this. Just out of curiosity, what exactly are they going to do if thousands buy this shirt and never ask him permission? They can't punish the school cause it's a fan t-shirt, and I doubt law enforcement would go on a Helu t-shirt ban rampage either. Here's the response from the University of Nebraska. Hi Mr. Ramirez, Thank you for sending us this email. You are correct in your assumption that selling a t-shirt with Roy Helu’s image would violate NCAA rules. As such, our office is obligated to take steps to have the seller cease this activity. The pertinent bylaw for this situation is listed below. If you happen to have the contact information for the seller, that would be much appreciated. NCAA Bylaw 12.5.2.2 - Use of a Student-Athlete's Name or Picture without Knowledge or Permission. If a student-athlete's name or picture appears on commercial items (e.g., T-shirts, sweatshirts, serving trays, playing cards, posters) or is used to promote a commercial product sold by an individual or agency without the student-athlete's knowledge or permission, the student-athlete (or the institution acting on behalf of the student-athlete) is required to take steps to stop such an activity in order to retain his or her eligibility for intercollegiate athletics. Such steps are not required in cases in which a student-athlete's photograph is sold by an individual or agency (e.g., private photographer, news agency) for private use. Thank you for your help with this. -Josh Josh White Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Planning University of Nebraska Athletics One Memorial Stadium Lincoln, NE 68588-0219 Phone: 402.472.7009 Fax: 402.472.4609 www.huskers.com Yes he sucks, what a snitch. Too bad we can now make sure we have our starting IBack for the upcoming season, and you shouldn't make money off of these guys. They get screwed enough already without having their name sold for profit.
  15. I'm not worried or concerned in any way. I'm just curious to see what angle Bo uses. Sorry if it came off like I was upset over it. That was not my intention. It's the off season and the weather isn't nice enough to spend a lot of time outdoors yet. What else am I supposed to do? good point....sorry if I came off as an a-hole!!!
  16. Interesting argument. I don't agree with your take however. Equivalently, when Bill Cowher returns to coaching, would he be considered someone who "hasn't done sh#t?" If Urban Meyer changes jobs to coach somewhere else, would he be considered someone who "hasn't done sh#t?" From a certain standpoint perhaps, but does that justify ranking them lower than mediocre coaches who have accomplished little in several years of effort? If Peyton Manning were to be traded to the Texans tomorrow, does he suddenly no longer rank as one of the best QBs in the league? If you really want to get down to it, no coach has done a lot since say, last December. I would say he is speaking more to the fact that Snyder was pretty much washed up when he left before so he hasn't proven to be as good as he was in his heyday in the 90s. Stop thinking this is Snyder from 98-03, if Michael Jordan came back right now to the NBA would he automatically be the best player? No, because the game had passed him by when he retired the last time and he would have to prove his status as the best, and I don't think he would be that (even though I love the guy). That is what he is saying, and he is right.
  17. I don't like that list one bit. 1 and 2 are good, but I would put Leach ahead of Mangino and definitely have Gundy in the top 6. I would also drop Snyder below Hawkins (he hasn't done sh*t yet). I am sure I will be accused of Bias, but Mangino and Leech both led their teams to a 11-1 regular season. Mangino goes to a BCS Bowl and beats a top 5 team. Leach gets Owned in the Cotton Bowl by Ole Miss. Also, Leach had a better program to start with. Kansas was really, really bad when Mangino showed up. That was one cupboard no one can blame Mangino for being empty, and it was REAL empty.... Was that a fat joke? OK, it was a little one, sorry. At least it was sort of subtle. I do not condone what I did, but I was trying to think of a way to illustrate how bare the cupboard was, and it got the better of me. Sorry. hahaha, I thought it was funny...
  18. This is a good point. Also the rise of Texas has been long in coming, they had no excuse to suck like they did for so long. I would say these two along with Rutgers and other East teams keeping NJ kids home combining that with the rise of USF and other Florida schools has really shut off the pipelines NU had. Pelini is starting to open some up, hopefully they can target the right guys and win some battles. I'd be happier if he can actually coach the kids when they get here, which I think he can. Top 5 classes don't me sh#t unless you can develop them. Underdeveloped 5* football players are still 5* High School players playing against Big 12 college players, that is not a good situation for said 5*.

  20. To paraphrase the great Happy Gilmore: "Blackshirts, redshirts who gives a sh#t" They will get them when they get them, I understand it is a tradition but it was pretty much ruined by Craig Bohl when the 2nd string holder got one. Let Bo handle it......
  21. Wow, anybody else think we shouldn't have paid Pelini now? Recession or not, top 10 pressure job in all of college sports and he is ranked 23rd out of all 118 or so after 1 season! Should speak for itself.
