You don't keep a mediocre coach for the pledge of a couple 17 year old kids. If we lose them, we lose them. Whoever the next hire is will be afforded more time than Riley because, unlike when Riley was hired, this is now officially a rebuild.

I voted 2-4, having us finish at 5-7, but wouldn't be surprised to see us go 4-8. We're just not a good football team. If we go 5-7 this season, that'll put Mike Riley's record at 20-19 at the end of year three. Who would have thought a career .500 coach would come in here and continue to be a .500 coach?

I seem to recall Callahan having his contract extended prior to the 07 season. There is no shroud of mystery surrounding Mike Riley's fate at this point. The guy that hired him literally got fired a few weeks ago and we just got jailsexed by Wisconsin at home. He gone.

So that's why we lost to NIU at home.

This is what I was getting at. Has Riley and co been superior in getting better talent in campus? Absolutely. Has that yielded more recruiting success than Pelini? Not exactly.

Can we say that he has even established any "momentum" when it comes to recruiting? Sure, with the new staff the effort put into recruiting is much more visible with their commitment to social media, but from a results standpoint, it has been similar to Pelini. I will, however, concede that Riley and co has had a great deal of success in getting high profile recruits on campus and they've turned our Friday Night Lights camps into an excellent recruiting tool.

Ohio State did one a couple years back: If we're going to do it, the university needs to get involved. This would be pretty cool to see in Memorial.

This, like every other time it has been attempted by us, will fail. The only way this actually happens is if the university endorses it and provides shirts. Forecast: 80% red still
