  1. easy. 98 orange bowl Nebraska vs Tennessee. I make it there as a 16 year old driving my first steal the car from mom trip and somehow interrupt a key play. We lose, and Tom changes his mind and stays. Butterfly effect tumbles forward, and we never experience the callahan era... but Bo still becomes head coach, the first time 'round.
  2. eh, thats a 'big key' for every bowl worthy college program starting the season. might as well say the stadium not blowing up is a big key. its never happened before...but guys like rex and tmart have blown up themselves.
  3. most of the so called passion is gone once bowl season comes around anyways. a bowl vacation for half of total teams involved does not equal passion. it equals excuses. we saw that the last two years from both sides of the fence. who is to say a playoff wouldnt enhance the passion that is conference football?
  4. on top of that, since people want to make basketball tourney comparisons... HOT teams, like George Mason in 06, make it to the final four at most, and that is an extreme case. they dont win the title not to mention, the basketball vs football angle is ridiculous as far as comparison to begin with. the number of games is one, and the bigger two is how many undeafeated basketball teams have you seen not get their shot at the title?
  5. as far as the hottest team argument... you'd rather leave it to the hottest media and computer darlings? rather than on the field?
  6. lots of stuff flying around these days. all i believe, is that its likely not either black or white (or simply the black vs the red) but a combination of many different things, many of which we'll never know for sure. World Herald David Sokol Piece what interests me...is that your biggest athletic department donor was shut out altogether (granted, hes a football guy, but still, what reason could it be that he doesnt at least get a courtesy call?) with all the talk of it being strictly financial decision, that every avenue was explored...well, that doesnt hold a lot of water to me.
  7. i think that walks a nice line between kool-aid and reality. i would be happy with 9-10 wins going into a title game showing, and I dont think its too much to ask for. every big ten team is going to have us circled in red and be up for the game-gotta show the new guy whats up...but I think Nebraska's experience in dealing with divisions and the unique challenges they bring will help them keep an even keel, and their eyes on the prize.

  9. dont know how factual it was, but a caller on 1620 this morning that is a KC high school football coach/AD with UNO player ties brought up something interesting- the Summit leagues UMKC basketball program has a tough time drawing 1000 people a game, and their team recently moved back into a 1600 seat on campus gym to save costs from playing at the municipal auditorium. He believed UNO is severely underestimating how difficult it is going to be to establish D1 programs. losing the football program is sad. losing a wrestling program, that besides hockey, has the most legitimate shot at Division 1 success, well...i just cant wrap my head around that. you can throw all the numbers and quotas and this and that you want around-it doesnt cover up what a complete waste throwing away such a successful program is.
  10. at a luncheon with mike kemp, before in the little vip meet and greet and now as the mc-hes just cracking jokes left and right. Looks pretty ragged tho.
  11. trev specifically states during the presser that dropping the wrestling program was not a financial decision... though the summit conference doesnt carry wrestling, 2 other schools in the new conference have programs... the whole thing reeks. the hockey program was profitable...until they moved from the civic to the much more expensive qwest center...now basketball is moving to the civic...someones getting too big for their britches. i hope this works out for UNO, but it seems like a lot of grandiose crap to this hombre. Trev talked about how exciting another division 1 basketball program in Omaha will be, playing nebraska and creighton, blah blah blah...have fun getting 1500 people at the rest of your games.
  12. i do not understand this at all. but, im not in charge. still, f'ing retarded.

could you explain how you win cash from it? i read everything and just made my first pick but i dont understand?

  14. fresh haircut, fresh kicks...let's do this.

  15. roaming/clubbing the old market and ending up at ameristar with a couple drunk crash rooms for a buddy's birthday tonight. hit me up with a pm for my phone number if youre around and wanna knock back a few. should be in old market area until closing, then back across the river.
  16. kenny bell is one interesting looking human. LOL at the husker locker photo of Eric Martin...his helmet already looks like its been through a meat grinder.
  17. have you seen him recently? he's been doing some serious time in the weight room. looks ready to take a yearlong grind. i havent seen any numbers, but i wouldnt be surprised if he was easily over the 220 mark. he wasnt exactly a seldom used tool last year...172 carries 5.5 yd avg, 15 receptions 9.9 yard avg. id say hes coming along at a perfect pace and more than capable of being relied upon as the feature back. the guy is the most natural leader on the team. and i think its kind of short sighted saying he is our only offensive threat. its like taylor martinez doesnt exist to some of you. put aside the qb argument, you dont just shove his talent back on the shelf because of the way a true freshman year ended for him.
  18. this is serious guys: who wins in a fight? charlie sheen or chuck norris? im competely torn over this one.

  19. got a buddy on vacation in honolulu... also, overheard this morning; "san francisco will be fine...they already had their sh#t packed." couldnt help but laugh, quietly, into my coffee.
  20. i like the giving Barney a chance under Beck angle, in a way. Ive talked my thoughts about Watson and his suffocation of the offensive capability in general over and over. Barney always seemed to me like a guy that wanted to hit people in the mouth, and Im not so sure, other than the Washington game at the beginning of the year where its on record that the line said let us do this damn thing on that one drive, he ever really got the chance. Watson's on the fly changes with no real stick 'em point never let the line shine. To busy getting fancy for his 'clever' offensive packages. There is no doubt we have the bodies and the talent there. Let them plow.
  21. love it, knapplc. must add the 'lying' or 'withholding information' angle...dez bryant, anyone? the NCAA can kiss my ass. Everything that is going on, especially when you include the bullsh#t Ehlers case...my god. Its infuriating. A top coach gets off with a slap on the wrist and a game check, while he's overseen a program with 400+ secondary violations...now this. His players take the hit and miss more than a coach that covered it up in Ohio...and its obvious as hell. Man. AAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHH> This whole NCAA thing is a sham. Something must be done.
