  1. Great work, Mavric! This is scary on the surface. No other word to describe it. But, did NU do anything differently defensively in the fourth? I'd have to rewatch, but my guess would be the pass defense was "softer" at the start of the fourth quarter when NU was trying to hold on to a sizable lead. Not an excuse, just a possible reason. Or maybe the defense was the played the same, and NU is lucky it wasn't boat-raced by USM....
  2. Actually Woody Hayes and Darrell Royal both popularized that phrase in the early 60's. Not Dr Tom. Although he may have repeated it. FWIW Well, if one of those yahoos is the source......
  3. I really like where this going. Huskerboard in 2020! The dome combats nuclear threats! The AC combats global warming! The walls keep the drug smugglers and rapists out! Also, who is for ZERO imports? This guy!!! As long as Homer Simpson doesn't have access to a dirt bike, we have a platform!!!!!!!
  4. Is it difficult for you to continue claiming this given what you were forced to admit a few posts ago? bnilhome, My wife the NICU (Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit) nurse strongly disapproves of your use of the words "most cases".... Unless you would like to add more than a calender month to that "20 weeks" to get it to 25 weeks? Even then, "life" is 50/50.
  5. I have hopes for Jones (#8). Damon Benning was fawning over him last year already during practice. Damon said many times that his speed and length will do very good things. Here's hoping that works in Banker's defense too!
  6. If you put Wilbon in for one play, when the entire defense knows it's a run... I gaurantee that we will no longer see threads about "where is Wilbon". They will all be replaced by "WTF is Riley doing???? Round hole! Square Peg!! rabble, rablble, rableee , arerabble..."
  7. I "kind of" agree. Look, I'm not trying to find an excuse for the pass defense. But I keep hearing your sentiments: "if team A knows they can pass...." Passing is riskier than running. Words of Dr. Tom, "there are three outcomes of a forward pass, and 2 are bad." A well coached team will not "give up the run" from the opening kickoff, unless they know for certain that they will have large gains through the air, and ZERO success on the ground. If they believe they have ZERO chance of running, isn't that a "plus 1" for the run defense? Edit: this was in response to ColoradoHusk (some quick responses here)
  8. I guess I was hoping to find passing numbers closer to our opponents' averages and rushing numbers much lower than opponents' averages. I found..., well not sure ... Is it because of play style? small sample? Good run d? Bad pass D? or "all of the above"? I want to look a little deeper myself.
  9. Just numbers I pulled off of ESPN's stat pages of Nebraska Opponents. Not sure what to make of it myself.... BYU: vs. Neb Passing: 379 Rushing: 132 vs. Boise State Passing: 309 Rushing: 72 vs. UCLA Passing: 244 Rushing: 161 vs. Michigan Passing: 55 Rushing: 50 (Mother of GOD!!) _____________________________________________________ South Alabama: vs. Gard Webb Passing: 184 Rushing: 224 vs. Neb. Passing: 313 Rushing: 19 vs. San Diego State Passing: 270 Rushing: 241 vs. NC State Passing: 213 Rushing: 45 __________________________________________________________ Miami: vs. Beth Cook Passing: 184 Rushing: 195 vs. FAU Passing: 300 Rushing: 226 vs. Neb Passing: 379 Rushing: 132 BYE - - ____________________________________________________________ Southern Miss vs. Miss State Passing: 311 Rushing: 102 vs. Austin Peay Passing: 275 Rushing: 239 vs. Texas State Passing: 233 Rushing: 280 vs. Neb Passing: 447 Rushing: 11 Edit: Just noticed I didn't put the outcome of the games on here. I thought about going back and adding W vs L and score. But on second thought, leaving the outcome out (if we didn't know them) might make us look closer...
  10. Kasich and Graham are both fairly moderate on economic issues, but neither have a chance of being nominated. Which has made the GOP into a running joke. When your primaries are run by the fringe lunatics of your party, you're not going to get your most successful candidates in front of the moderate American voters. Moderate Republicans would do well to ditch the current-state GOP and form their own party. I think they'd find as long as they're moderate and rational, they'll draw a lot more support and be more influential than their old party. Of course, this is easier said than done...especially since one of the few things both parties have agreed upon over the decades is how to make it obscenely difficult for a viable third party to come onto the political scene. +1 I'm a liberal democrat from Nebraska. That said, in a general election, if my choices were Sanders vs. Kasich; I'd vote for the Republican Kasich. Sadly I won't get that chance. The system needs some kind of tuning. edit: Kasich has some "extreme" views as far as talking points go. That's just it, just "talking points". I like his realistic views on conservatism and the United States place in the world.
  11. I would say "yes"... My aunt and uncle owned a small gas station in my hometown, 1500 people. Customers always asked when they would install pay at the pump, they responded by saying "when we are tired of paying the bills". They counted on the sales that go with the gas and the emergency groceries (aka. $6.00 gallon of milk that expires in 3 days) Edit: They also talked about the danger in speculating gas prices by selling cheap now because you think you will buy back lower. I used to do this with copper at my old job. It can work for you, but usually works against you if you don't have a cushion.
  12. Funny, you put him as a "debate loser" because of this. But out of all the GOP candidates ,he is the only one I could see myself voting for because of this. (and his views on the Iran deal). To each his own, I guess.
  13. I could see this if we weren't running the same coverage against BYU. Unless we were fine losing a game as long as we didn't tip our hand to future opponents. I agree, Mavric. However, just for fun. Maybe the BYU game made them aware of some deficiencies, player and/or scheme. They feel comfortable in the scheme fix in practice during the USA week, but want to see it the players took the coaching also. ...
  14. You disagree that the Blackshirts are earned, not just given? I would say most Husker fans would agree with that, personally. If you earn a top spot, you earn a shirt. If you lose a top spot, you lose a shirt. The coach defines "earn" and "lose". Is it really anymore complicated than that???
  15. Gomes was part of a prolific group of Blackshirts. I can see how he would be "defensive"
  16. A big part of me is happy to see these guys still follow the program this closely. They could have easily cut ties with NU when NU cut ties with "their era". Members of Huskerboard have differing opinions on the how and when of handing out practice jerseys that fall on both sides. No one should call out players that have actually worn them about their beliefs. I hope their twitter feeds are full of "miss ya's" and "GBR"...
  17. Wow! "Powerful reactions" doesn't begin to describe Gangwish. Walk-on tradition + Blackshirt tradition = Awesome!!
  18. I'm pretty sure NU laid the smack down on CSU in '93 or '94 in an early season game. You were probably there!!! Sorry, I meant temp was in the 80's.
  19. We've covered who has won 9 games the last 7 years and got NU, Alabama, and Oregon. We've covered who has lost 4 or more the last 7 years and got a long list of teams. I could spend the time to see the teams that appeared in Championship games. I could spend the time to see how many times that was, point spread, type of weather, and if the game was day or night. They are all data, stats, and numbers. "At the end of the day" you look at the team. Is it good? Is it promising for next year? How does it stack up against the best in the country? Using data to answer these questions is useful. Using data to create an arbitrary milestone is pointless.
  20. ^^^I understand it that way Edit: But it also is important to pick out anomolies from high quality. It is impossible to improve game to game, year to year, every game and every year (that curve goes to infinity). There will be ups and there will be downs. Rosters change, rules change, conferences change, etc. However, if a minimum standard (apparently 9 wins in NU case) is set and the team is felt to be capable of making a national surge in any year, I think the Husker coach should not fear firing. Pelini's attitude, a lot of it leaked by tapes, was his downfall along with the compounding feeling his teams won't win on the big stage: a.k.a. Conference Championship Games. If his attitude was better and continued to be competitive in big games (09 Texas, 10 Oklahoma, etc) he would still be here, no one can argue that. BUT, Wisconsin happened, 3/4 of MSU happened, UCLA happened and many other primetime games in the last 3 years where they looked overwhelmed or under prepared....
