  1. Man, I am glad our school colors are red and white and brown and white.. "Brown eye (I) set"...... doesn't sound real good , huh... I'm sorry, just struck me as funny..... I kind of like GPA...
  2. Personally, I would love to see a Steeler and Panther Super Bowl. My beloved Steelers would be great, and I would like to see Mike Rucker and Mike Minter get a chance to return to the Super Bowl.....although Josh Brown and Grant W. would be okay too.... Go Steelers.... Last week I didn't believe, now this week I think they may have a shot, although slightly.....tough to win 3 straight on the road in the NFL, especially in the playoffs and Championship game.... Heard some good insight though....basically, this is the same team that went 15-1 last season....but with a better QB and better RB than last season.....Gosh, that gives me hope, which also means that because I have hope, I probably jinxed them.
  3. I agree with the blocking concept...unless we get a rb who can pick up the blitz on passing downs, we will struggle offensively all year... I know that everyone is excited about next years potential, but the o-line needs to block and somewhere a rb has to block like Ross did... I don't mind the 2-back set.... I would expect to see a lot of motion to slot and motion at the snap of the ball with this method though..... it is unlike BC to just load up the backfield and go.
  4. Totally forgot about Jackson....hope the coaches don't do the same. I just don't know where they are going to use this kid... Hopefully somewhere soon.
  5. maybe the word choice of "realistic" isn't correct. All of the posts above ARE realistic. He hasn't proved himself NFL worthy (post injury) yet.... you guys are right.... I was just saying, try to see the "other" side if he does declare.... and that if he does, it is not like we take a huge hit..... based on this past season.
  6. I agree with all of the above posts. Swift-Nunn will surely be in the mix, and if you had to look at 1 new guy, Purify may be him. Knowing the system is probably the most important factor.... Where to be, how to get there, and when to be there..... Chris Brooks could be a wild-card in the whole thing.....if he gets it figured out and stays healthy. I am excited to see what everyone does next year..... Holt-Henry may figure in.... BC has shown that he doesn't necessarily red-shirt guys who can play.
  7. Thanks for the update ETR. I am a wrestling fan/ref/jr. high coach. Being a NU alum and stuck in Iowa (meca of wrestling), I get tired of hearing about the Hawks... Although it is amazing at what they have done over time. Good to hear that Coach Manning has this years version of the Huskers making progress....
  8. I haven't heard anything either.....but, if you look at it, sure Herian could possibly be a big loss, but in reality, we didn't have him this year, and in all likelyhood, we were not going to have him next year anyway. If Herian would have been healthy, and put up great numbers as expected, he more than likely would have darted for the NFL... based on the fact that if he is considering it now....... So, yes it may hurt a little, but remember, he is UNPORVEN, so let's not declare it "horrible" if he leaves....plus, maybe you can't blame him.... If he can get healty enough to "make a team" and then he is unable to perform at a high level, at least he will have a contract ($$$) for next season...... on the other hand, if he gets healthy enough to practice and play at NU, and doesn't perform at a high level, his NFL chances are totally shot...... Maybe he should go and at least test his leg at the next level....if he gets re-injured in the NFL, he still has $$$$. Everyone needs to just take a realistic look at this.... Best of luck to Matt is he stays or if he goes.
  9. Welcome aboard Will Your experience here will be top notch. Just wait until you come out of the tunnel for the first game next year... We are excited that you chose NU..... Coach Callahan will have this offense making a lot of noise during the next few years... Great choice, and good luck.
  10. Baytown: Tickets will not be a problem.... I have been to almost every home game in the past 17 years and have a hard time recalling it ever being impossible to land tickets.. As nameless said, Texas and CU will be a little more difficult than the othersm but you can probably land those too. Futhermore, keep asking on this board.....something will likely show.... Good luck on planning your trip.....
  11. Steelers vs Broncos Mr. HANC vs Mrs. HANC My beloved Steelers survived the powerful Colts on the road. I am extremely happy, yet somewhat surpirsed. If the same Pitt teams travels to Denver, it should be a great game that Pitt has a chance to win..... This game is not only for my favorite NFL team, it is for DOMESTIC happiness. * by the way, I'm hesistant to say that my wife won $80 in the "bowl pool" that I finished 72nd out of 80 people..... and I am the football coach GO STEELERS !!!!!!
  12. Does anyone know, did Henry show up this weekend for his visit? I hope so.....man, the football god's must be on our side a little.... How about welcoming a Texas guys with mid- 50's temperature during the middle of January..... talk about a little luck.... C'mon Will, say YES. It's always this warm in January.
  13. Hey, I understand why Dyches is leaving..... and the very best of luck to him... But, Congdon is the starter and will be..... I don't want to jinx him or NU, but my goodness, it's not like you need to "stockpile" kickers......injuries tend to be few and far between (but dont ask the Gramatica boys ) As Sean Salisbarry (sp) would say....."He is a KICKER, who cares"...... * with that quote, I am reminded of the Orange Bowl and the KSU game this year when THE KICKER was one of the most important parts of the team/game. Good Luck David...... thanks for what you brought to our program/
  14. I am 100% with you on this one, Dallas. Gotta represent Bellevue someway! I hope Souder wins the position. The way he hits teams would fear passing to the middle of the field. We need more guys that bring to wood! Callahan and Coz need to do away with their "soft technique". If a guy is by the sideline hit him rather than trying to push him out of bounds. Too many times the last two years teams have picked up extra yards because of this. Not to start a "rif" with anyone, but as a football coach (which by no means makes me right), I agree with being agressive and am an avid fan of punishing defenses, but I'm not sure I totally agree with you on the statement above. Say NU averages giving up an additional 2 yards/ carry on the sidelines.... This would mean that we would have to do this 7 1/2 plays a game to make up for the distance you are risking for 1 personal foul call. Unless it is to stop an obviously apparent 1st down, you probably want to error on the side of caution. I bet the Michigan DB who smacked Ross out of bounds could probably go back and change that...... Too many times, a late hit call either keeps a drive alive, or gives the other team much needed field position or momentum..... I'm sorry, but I will trade a few extra yards here and there (unless the circumstances require...stated above) for a very costly 15 yd. penalty.......... Usually penalties, turnovers, and 3rd down conversions determine the outcome..
  15. A life-long STEEELERS fan here..... They have been my favorite since probably Kindergarten in 1974....... even through the Bubby Brister days I love their defensive attitude every year, and the fact that they are determined to run the ball..... Chuck Knoll and Bill Cowher are studs..... and yes, I even have to admit that I was a Kordell Stewart fan for a short time Now, I hope to see the Steelers and Broncos in AFC champ. , but my brain tells me, that Pitt is a little overmatched this weekend.. My wife is a Bronco fan, so hell, they will probably make it farther than my Steelers, hence an entire year of her BS. Super Bowl pick: Giants vs Jags (hell, that is how my bowl projections were) No, seriously, Colts vs Panthers Go Rucker and Minter (although Mike Brown is one of my all-time favorites, so I could live with the Bears.)
  16. Couldn't agree more..... I am not sure why so many people dislike the JUCO route... I personally feel if you can land 5-8 top notch JUCO guys a year, there is nothing wrong with that... You are still getting approx. 14-20 high school kids. I have said it before, I hate those KSU bast@rds, but hey, if my memory serves me correctly, I believe they made a living in the top 5-10 each year for awhile with JUCO recruits.... KSU fell off when coaches left, not because of the JUCO curse. Zac Taylor, Steve Octavien, Zac Bowman.... keep bringing these guys in.... I dont give a crap what anyone says.
  17. Wow, what a difference a few wins make.... I can recall this board exploding after the meltdown at MU and KU..... Holy cow, some of you were ready to run Coz and Co. out of town.. I had my doubt as did many, but as I said, a few wins sure change attitudes of everyone..... including mine I am still not completely sold on Coz, but I am very happy he is staying... the last thing we needed was to change faces and schemes at this point. Just keep showing improvement.
  18. HANC

    CONGDON

If this was the case, Frank would kill for this guy......... Okay, that wasn't called for !!!!! I'm sorry
  19. I agree..... this was funny stuff...very well thought out and great sense of humor. Thanks for bringing it to the board.
  20. I vote to give blake a shot at D-coord... Maybe he hasn't held that position before, but hell, he was a head coach... (although, not that successful). Maybe we then bring in a young, fiery LB coach... I am not sure who this guy will be, but this is my vote and prediction. It is too bad that Dave Roberts doesn't have a defensive background... We could hire Watson (from CU) to replace Downing and Roberts to do LB. Then we would have Roberts and a very content Blake on the same recruiting staff. But, I think that Roberts is an offensive guy.
  21. Hey, I give KU credit for beating NU this year... congrats and congrats on the bowl win.... BUT..... the time has not come when KU just "reloads" instead of "rebuilds". My goodness, they haven't stockpiled a ton of talent . They may be better than your average KU team of the past, but they will definately will not be as strong on D as this year, and without Gordon, they also lose a top "go-to" guy on offense. Welcome to Memorial Stadium KU.... and welcome to a start to another tremendoulsy long losing streak to the mighty Big Red.
  22. I hope that I am not falsely reporting, but if I read the ESPN crawler correctly, the Vikes fired Ted Cotrell as d-coord.....meaning this is heating up.
  23. if I read the ESPN crawler correctly, we can keep specutlating.... Vikes fired d- coordinator Ted Cotrell.
  24. hey, I know that all of this is hypothetical and speculation....but it creates great message board conversations... and, if we can (and did) speculate on BC replacement in the middle of October, then we can speculate on the new D-coordinator. If Coach Coz bolts for the Vikes (I hope he doesn't, but who could blame him $$) who would we hire to replace him? 1. Do we stay within? We all know that this team needs continuity.... another new system would suck..... what would that be, 4 in 5 years or something like that. If we stay within: Can Blake cut the mustard as D-Coordinator....might be a way to make sure he stays on for a while...we need his recruiting..... Is there anyone else on the D-side of the ball that is capable of such a title? 2. Do we hire from the outside? If so, then who? A few guys that I like, probably would laugh in NU's face. Marvin Sanders comes to mind.....but no way in hell. Maybe we promote Blake to keep him, and hire 2 guys to come in and replace Downing and then to replace Blake as D-line....or maybe let Blake cont. d-line and bring in a position coach to replace Coz. Does Coach Roberts have a defensive background? Sounds like a great recruiter. Looking for imput here.
  25. Hey, IMO, this was one of the best bowl season's ever..... So many great and close games. Hell, many big games went right to the wire. 1. Rose bowl = no doubt the best 2 teams in NCAA. great game 2. Alamo Bowl = great game... and because I am a Husker and respect UM 3. Orange = I respect Bowden and Paterno.....felt sorry for kickers 4. Fiesta = hate both teams, but OSU-ND put on a show 5. Outback = came down to onside kick.... hate Hawks, so gald they got screwed A number of other games went to the final series..... Alabama-TT, Oregon-OU, ISU-TCU, VT-Louisville, hell, even the Central Florida-Nevada game in OT was fun. This bowl season probably won't be topped....until of course NU wins the whold enchilada !!!! AGAIN
