  1. Doesn't hurt that Darin Erstad is now head coach. He may not keep him away from the millions of dollars, but the baseball program has become more attractive ... former Big League all-star twice and three-time Golden Glover Award winner. Not a bad resume.
  2. Also, he probably won't jump at any job available ... such as a crappy program where he is likely doomed to fail. So I see him picking and choosing any future offers. But that would be the case with any up-and-coming assistant.
  3. Man, I was excited about this game when I first saw the Big 10 schedule ... and then all this. Not saying OSU will be a pushover ... but much of the excitement for this game has bee taken away. Too bad.
  4. Fun reading, and there is some good stuff here ... but how can one make game-day predictions when we don't know how good our offense will be? We also don't know how good our newcomers will be and how far our offense develops. What about injuries ... not just us, but our opponents? We don't know how good Michigan will be ... maybe better than what some are thinking -- who knows? It's a waste of time reading ... no disrespect.
  5. Don't have time to read all the posts, so I don't know if this has been touched. If Bubba doesn't come, I can see Turner getting some reps at QB, while staying at WR until an injury occurs. I think it was Big Willie who said that RK has had some leg injury issues, and he therefore lacks mobility as a result. That other walk on -- can't think of his name -- may be the one to keep an eye on.
  6. I don't think Bo will bolt for OSU because i think the only reason he would leave is he felt he has done all he could do here and he hasn't. Yes, there may very well be truth to this. Let me add that Bo just hired Beck as OC, and he is going somewhat to a different direction offensively. It's very possible Bo wants to see this through, and it's likely going to take more than one season to fully develop this new offense. Plus T.O. has plenty of time to reaffirm Bo's commitment to NU. Bo doesn't have to make a fast decision ... he has plenty of time to think this through ... that of course if OSU would offer. The most likely situation where Bo would have left for OSU would have been if Tressel resigned at the end of last season, and Bo was offered the job with little time to think about it. And before Watson was fired, Beck hired, and before the offense was changed.
  7. That's what I think or don't think.
  8. Even if he did come here, which I don't think he will, he would be at a disadvantage developing as a QB if he plays both sports. He wouldn't be able to practice during the spring ... that would slow his development. And you would think a QB would need more time on the practice field than let's say a RB or a WR. And look at Cooper ... could this be a reason why he hasn't yet shown much? Not saying for sure, but looking at the possibility.
  9. Hey guys. My nephew in Dallas wants to know if Nebraska has a strong ROTC program. He likes what he sees at LSU, but what about N? Anybody? Can you provide me with links for more info. Thank you.
  10. Don't get me wrong ... I think it will be ultra difficult for NU to keep him. With that said, isn't mom and dad blocking Boras' direct path somewhat and protecting Bubba from being pushed too hard by the agent? This seems like a very close knit and protective family. Again, I can't imagine Bubba turning down all that money, but I doubt from what I here about his parents that Boras can directly approach Bubba anytime he pleases. He has to get through Bubba's parents first ... and he may very well succeed at that. We will see this summer.
  11. Edit: After seeing skersfan's post, I deleted mine to close this.
  12. Did I read on another thread that Ron Kellogg III has had knee injuries in HC, and he is not much of a running threat? Anybody?
  13. I don't remember if it was the UPI or the AP, but one of those polls didn't count the bowl games, and yes UT was considered the 1970 NC in that poll. So we had to share the NC with UT, which was stupid. I remember ND dominating that bowl game against UT.
  14. I remember as a child when some fans wanted Devaney fired as coach. After several very successful seasons, some poor recruiting caught up with him, and he had a couple of 6 and 4 seasons in 1967 and and 1968. To make matters worse, his '68 team got clobbered by OU and Steve Owens 47-0 to close the season. Two years later, he shared the NC with UT.
  15. zoogies, yes it is a horrible reason, but at the very least that was part of it. Yes Washington played a great game. They wanted it a lot more than we did. And yes, there is no excuse for it, but the poor play had to do somewhat with what I was describing. The minute I heard that we had to play Washington again after that disappointing OU game, I saw trouble coming. I predicted this would likely happen. I feared that N would played poorly. It takes a lot of hard coaching and motivating to get a team up for a game like this, and our coaches failed, along with the players. I'm sure Watson was a major part of this.
  16. Good grief. Skip Bayless has brain shortage issues. The reason N lost to W was because the Skers already played them in the regular season and rocked them; lost the Big 12 championship, which was a major emotional letdown; N didn't want to be at that bowl. Plain and simple, N was not mentally there for that game ... it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out, Bayless.
  17. panhandle husker, actually Mickey was from a different recruiting class than the one Max rated number 1. But you are correct he was at the very least one of Max's top ten prospects. Decent Husker QB, but not as good as advertised coming out of college. Never was Tommie Frazier talent or Darien Hagen talent. Remembering that Oklahoma game, Mike Grant took over the game at QB and sucked it up. Mike reminded me some physically and athletically of Cody Green. Remembering the CU game his junior year -- CU won 27-12 -- and the controversial call where Mickey appeared to have scored a long TD run but was called stepping out of bounce. Man, if you look at the replays, it couldn't be any closer. He may have or may not had touched the line. We would have been up 19-0 in that game. His senior year, I remember Mickey starting in the opening game, but he struggled in the first quarter and T O put in Keithen McCant(sp?). KM started the rest of the year ... he had a productive senior year. KM was the second QB recruited in Mickey's class.
  18. That's too bad if it's true he lacks mental toughness for short yardage situations. We could use someone like him in a three-back rotation -- Burkead, Marrow, and one of the three incoming freshmen most ready to play. You'd like to see the other two redshirt if possible, but that might not be possible with what you just described and the likely-hood of injury.
  19. There's seems to be a tendency for a taller back to naturally run too high. But I'm not claiming to be an expert on this. I remember Roger Craig, who had a great NFL career like Ahman Green, initially had that problem his sophomore year with the Huskers.
  20. He does look like he has quick first step and gets to the line fast. That's all that matters to me. We got three other backs coming in who are supposed to be able to juke (hopefully), so that's not a worry to me right now ... just get to the line quickly, crash into the defenders and fall forward to make a forth and one. Could care less what his 40-yard-dash time is without pads.
  21. Remember Marlon Lucky and how explosive he was supposed to be? We are talking about three players we won't know how good they are until maybe next fall or beyond that. Maybe all three of them will turn out to be as good as advertised, but don't be surprised if one or even two of them are disappointments. Yes, you would think at least one out of three will show something that's very impressive, but who knows. Or it could be one is a special player and the other two are very good but not great. Or all three end up being solid but not great, like Lucky, the five star out of high school. But I should also throw in that big kid out of Alabama -- again, there's no knowing how good he really is. How tough he really is until he puts on a his pads and helmet. My point is let's wait and see and not get too excited. Expectations get really high in Huskerville for players who have yet to even practice a play in Lincoln. While Cody Green is a QB, not a RB, he looked great on HC videos and many Husker fans thought he was the best thing since slice bread. Some were even comparing him to Vince Young. Sit down, take a deep breath and relax. Maybe even take a hot bath. I'm not saying they all can't be great, but you have to look at the reality here.
  22. Why do you assume that Bell, Green, Turner, etc are faster than the Big 10? I know they are all reputed to be "fast," but that's only one side of the equation. You have to consider who they're up against. It's not like we're Corvettes to their Camrys. They have some Mustangs and Chargers and Camaros, too. If we've got guys who are running 4.4 40s, that's great. But football speed isn't track speed, and frankly, a 4.4 guy isn't going to be so much faster than a 4.5 or a 4.6 guy that it automatically means wins if the schemes aren't sound, or the blocking isn't up to par, or tackling isn't sound. Our speed is only one of a dozen factors to consider, and it's not even the most important factor. Frankly, we're going to have to prove in game situations that we're not going to shoot ourselves in the foot with holding or procedure penalties, with personal fouls, with incorrect reads, with guys missing their assignment/blocks, etc. before we start talking about rolling through any conference. The Big 12 North was a challenge for us the last three years. All this talk about dominating an entire conference from the get-go is just silly. knapplc, I'm AGREEING with you. I made the point that people are basing this on players who haven't proved themselves on the field. I said the three backs are ADVERTISED as being burners. That means others are saying this ... not me. I'm not assuming anything. I said I have no idea how much straight-ahead speed Turner has. The report is Turner is very quick and shifty ... but I don't know how good he will be. I might had over-spoke a little about Bell being a burner ... but that doesn't mean I think he's going to be the best thing since slice bread in the Big 10 ... I don't have the foggiest idea. I'm agreeing with you. This is the problem with interpretation ... people have a tendency of reading something the wrong way. No big deal, dude, but you misread my post. So for the third time, I'm agreeing with you. 10-4?
  23. Hey knapplc. When you talk about guys who have played a down of football for N, then yes, we don't have a speed advantage. Guys like Kinnie and Burkhead have decent speed, but are not burners. Guys like Bell are burners, but who knows how good he will be until we see him on the field. Turner is supposed to be very quick and shifty, but I really haven't read much about his straight away speed ... so I don't know. Those three freshmen RBs are advertised as being burners, but we won't know that until we see them on the field. So my point is what we have available right now for the spring game you are correct. What we have next fall may be a different story or the same story. Too many folks are basing a speed advantage on what we will have in the future. Can't do that. Hey, can I invite you for a glass of Kool-aid. What flavor you you like?
  24. Right on Bob! An example of a traditional rivalry is Army-Navy. It may not be that big of a deal for you and me, but for those two schools -- HUGE!!! To Badger and Hawkeye fans, their game has been HUGE!!! Too bad they both got the short end of the stick. I know Wisconsin also wanted the Skers as a rival every year ... of all the Big 10 schools, they got the worst deal.
