  1. Pretty close to what I did except I made my way to the cooler for beer. I think the cork on my champagne bottle may have made a dent in the wall! ....oops, wrong forum. I hate when that happens...
  2. Couldn't agree more! We had Husker fans over last night for a bbq and several stopped by this afternoon for our tailgate. Lots of fun - lots of class. What impressed me the most was how your fans handled the almost improbable loss in the last minute. We did not hear a bad word. No excuses. Yes, you deserved a win today and it almost feels bad stealing it like that, but you all will be fine and next week is another game. Hang in there and life will go on. Thanks to all of you who made the trip and I look forward to keeping up with Huskerboard throughout the season. LOL dam why cant you be mean like some mizzu or kansas fans. As ron burgandy would say. Stay Classy Haha.. if I wanted to be mean I would go on a Missouri message board and remind them that the Bowling Green team they struggled to beat last week lost today to MARSHALL... College football is too much fun to be mean...

  4. Just got back from the game and after having a few cold ones downtown Blacksburg with many of your fellow Huskers I can tell you that they are at least doing fine. Finer folks you won't fine. Class acts all the way. We felt their pain, but believe me they are excellent representatives for Big Red. I know that won't mean much now, but continue to be proud of your team, your school, and your fans.
  5. I like this because you gt fans know all about underdogs rising up to the occasion. Well, they know all about being the insignificant Tech in the ACC
  6. Just talked with a large group of Huskers here on campus and they were just having a great time. We are having several Huskers over tonight for a bbq and we also expect a few at our tailgate in the morning. I also ran into a few of them this morning while running my dog. They were sitting outside their RV drinking beer, and that was at 7:30AM!!!!
  7. I don't know if this is my heart or my brain making this prediction, but if you are going to put me on the spot... let's go with 24-21 Hokies. I respect the heck out of your program and although I have a fairly good feeling about the way our team is progressing I see this game as fairly open. I hope that our homefield will be the difference maker between two excellent teams. No team has scored more than 21 on us at Lane since the 2006 season if I am not mistaken and I think both Ds will play exceptionally strong and try to contain the running games of the opponents. My girlfriend and I are actually going on four day vacation Monday morning, which is probably a good thing as I am getting more anxious by the minute. We'll be back on Thursday and I hope to see as many of you as possible before the game. Here's to a great game, with no injuries, and a wonderful time together in Southwest Virginia or wherever you all may be watching the game. Best of luck to you all for the rest of the season! - Hokieluv
  8. Week 2 polls are as meaningful as nutritional labels to Mangino. They are there but you don't pay attention.
  9. I hope so! Vick has always sucked in my opinion. Not sure where everybody got the idea that he was a great QB. he was a great college QB. and when was the last time NU has had a QB do better than him in the NFL? What did he do that was great in the NFL? who said he did? Oh no... Not this discussion again my friends... For those of us who follow VT football closely, Tyrod has a lot to prove when it comes to the passing game. Watching him yesterday at Lane there are still some issues that just makes me frustrated. Although he only played two quarters and a one series in the third, he missed several wide open receivers in the first half. The good news, he either threw the ball away or scrambled. We all know he can scramble, but hopefully our RBs can do the running for us, and Tyrod can focus on running when everything else breaks down. His completion percentage is probably not going to be great, but he can make big plays which has allowed us to win games that were close. If the Huskers can control the running game you all stand a great chance. I think that will be key especially in a loud Lane Stadium. If not, Lee will be on the sideline more often that not, and as well as he has played so far that is not a good thing for your team. Our O just cannot go 3 and out like we did against Bama. If we do, it will be a long day for the Hokie-faithful.
  10. Ok, I love your enthusiasm, but WOW back to reality. Yes, the huskers put up around 500 yards today, but so did Virginia Tech and I hate to say that Marshall is probably better than Arkansas St. Lately, Virginia Tech is up were we would like to be and we really need to beat a good team to prove we are on the way back. Other than our win against Clemson last year, we have pretty much been killed by quality opponents. I hate is as much as anyone and I think Bo is heading us in the right direction, but we have to PROVE we can do it on the field. I long for the glory days (I am old enouph, that I was already an adult during the mid 90's) and have hope for the future. Let's just not set ourselves up for possible dissapointment. If we do loose to VT, the sky isn't falling, we just will have a ways to go. But, having said that, we did sort of hang with them last year and think we may again or even have a chance to win. I just don't know about Lee slicing up VT's defense like a surgian. I have bigger concerns at the moment. Since I unfortenately live in Michigan and they beat Notre Dame today. I have to listen to these Big Ten ego maniacs talk about how great and unstopable they think they are again. I have to agree with you on everything except the statement that Marshall is probably better than Ark. St. Marshall went 4-8 last year while playing the same quality of opponents that ASU played and went 6-6. Most of Marshall's losses were blowouts, including a 51-14 loss to Wisconsin, 30-14 to UCF and a 35-10 loss at RICE! These teams are fairly evenly matched, but I would give the advantage to ASU and their defense looked solid today, whereas Marshall's, on the other hand, opened up highways for VT running backs to jog down. Definitely still nervous about our running defense though, especially with VT having a scrambling quarterback. Based on what Marshall did today at Lane... no, they are not a great team. They had no ability at all to stop the run. We do have 3 solid RBs, and a QB that can run, but Marshall just about rolled over every time Tyrod handed over the ball. I would not read too much into putting 600 yards of offense on those guys. Marshall did beat Houston though last year.
  11. Just got back from the game. Yes, two RBs with 160+ yds, BUT it was Marshall... Did not see any Suh-clones on the Thundering Herd D....
  12. I assume knapplc is referring to Lincoln in his response to you. You will find plenty of parking at either Blacksburg HS or MS. There is a shuttle that will take you from these two locations directly to Lane. However, there are plenty of churches, yards etc. I have a few "free" places that I tell friends to park (without getting towed). If you want directions back-channel me and I will give you more specific instructions. The memorial is on the Drill field in the center of campus which again is right in front of Norris Hall (where a majority of the incidents took place). If you walk around campus you can not miss it. It is a big open field about twice the size of a football field. The memorial will be on the opposite side of where Lane is. It is a nice walk and I am sure there will be lots of people hanging out there on game day (or the day before). It will take you 10-15 minutes to walk from there to Lane.
  13. Hey guys, welcome to Blacksburg. As for the tailgating questions, I am sure you will find Huskers tailgating all over the place, but typically you will find a large number of visiting fans in the lots by Prices Fork (the side where you find most of the academic buildings). If you use the following link you will find a nice map of campus http://www.vt.edu/where_we_are/maps/campus-map-highres.pdf You will also find lots of bars/restaurants on Main Street (on the right side of the map) which is fun to hang out prior to the game. As in Lincoln, wear your jerseys and enjoy the hometown folks talking football with you. If you have other specific questions the following link has all kinds of good information for visitors: http://www.hokiesports.com/football/fanguide.html Also, feel free to send me a message if you have any other specific questions about Blacksburg, Lane, etc. Can't wait to see you all next weekend! Good luck to you all against Arkansas State.
  14. Hey guys, just got back from Atlanta and with my voice gone and nothing better to do it is a good time to reflect on our game. With the exception of the fourth quarter the team did not play all that bad. Our returns were great (besides the two fumbles), and our D did step up to hold them to mostly FGs in Q 1-3. The way we blitz we do give up some big gains, but if the D had been a little more fresh toward the end we probably could have avoided that last TD. It was rough to lose that game. I had a feeling that they would get a lot of yards on us, but I thought we would keep them out of the end zone on most drives, but we just ran out of steam in the fourth quarter. We did not get any updates in the Dome on your game until it was over - BUT the 37,000 Hokies there all cheered when we saw your score! It got loud - not sure the Bama fans knew why we were cheering, 'cause it was during one of their 4th quarter drives.... Can't wait for the 19th. I was pretty down last night (got back to the hotel around 1am), but now we just have to look forward. I think both of our teams have similar games next weekend and then we both have to be sharp. Third year in a row we have had an early season loss like this, and we have usually played pretty good ball following those games. See you all in less than two weeks. Oh, and congrats on your win!
  15. Not disrespecting FAU, but App State would beat the Owls 9 out of 10 times, and the 2009 Huskers are most likely waaaaay better than the 2007 Michigan team. You will be fine come Saturday.
  16. Cacti, can't believe you posted this since we beat you to the number one spot... I am so glad so many Husker fans get to experience our entrance in TWO WEEKS!!! We loved the atmosphere in Lincoln and we hope you will be as pumped in Blacksburg!
  17. That's right. There's nothing like a babysitter and a beer when I want to enjoy myself Oh, did I read into that too much Cacti?
  18. No matter how many of you can make it to Blacksburg, I really hope you have a great time while at Lane and on and around our beautiful campus. I know it will be a great game and I hope we have as great of a time together as we had in Lincoln last year. Based on what I hear from friends working in the athletic department, there are rarely enough tickets being put on sale by our fans to allow more than 8000 fans from the opposing teams to make it to the game. Best of luck to you against FAU this weekend. I will try to keep an eye on the score while at the Georgia Dome.
  19. I think the Huskers have as good of a chance to beat us in Blacksburg as any other team. In fact, if we lose at Lane this season I am pretty sure it will be to the Huskers. If your O-line can keep the pressure you have a chance. Our crowd gets rowdy. I go to all away games and I am pretty sure that very few stadiums are more "hostile" than Lane. Lee will be solid and if he can handle the Blacksburg "bounce" he will be one heck of a QB. Your D will be the class of the Big 12, and if your O-line can give Lee some time he will be solid by week 3. I still think our team will be hard to beat at Lane, but I would not be surprised if both our teams will be in the top 10 by the end of the season. Not to be too cocky, but Lane is one heck of a place for a visiting team. We are LOUD. However, if we lose at home this season, I would rather that be to the Huskers. Classiers fans I could not imagine, and I also know that most of you would probably still pull for us than most of your opponents. In many ways I see us as very similar: no-nonsense Ds with a blue-collar approach to your offense. Less than 3 weeks away...
  20. I think you all will be fine with your O line, I just hope those lanes don't open up at Lane on September 19
  21. Based on what I know about our team and having seen a few practices and the two open scrimmages, the VT O line will be improved over the last couple of years. That said, a pass blocking RB is very valuable and would give Tyrod more time to hit the tight ends and WRs. The guys we have in the backfield (especially the two youngest) are "home-run" threats, by that I mean once they are in the open field they will be gone. My concern is how they will handle pressure from guys like Suh. Tyrod can probably outrun most guys once he gets out of the pocket, but unless he gets time to get the ball off or take off on a run, he will be sacked or possibly end up forcing it to the other team. My assessment so far of the Hokies is that we need the passing game to open up for the running game. Most teams are probably the other way, but until our receivers prove that they consistently can catch the ball the opposing teams can put pressure on Tyrod. I see improvements and having Coale back will be huge. However, you all have the advantage of watching a great Alabama D challenge our offense so you will have a fairly good idea how solid our O will be two weeks later. Overall, I think the backfield will be OK. I am really excited about our D. Despite the loss of Number 1, I think this unit has improved. My concern: how deep are we? If our O struggles and these guys are forced to get back on the field right away we need a solid second unit. We cannot afford all these 3 and outs against teams like Bama and NU. Finally, our special teams seem to be on track. Last year was not good. The scrimmages told me that Beamer has spent lots of time on the blocking schemes again. Our placekicker is a redshirt SR - not sure about his range, but he has been consistent in the 35-45 range in the scrimmages. You all clearly have the experience there (and the range), but I think we look OK. Sorry if I gave you too much info on a topic on a "struggling" backfield, but it is hard to curb the excitement a week away from the season opener.
  22. Having been to the first two scrimmages it is tempting to miss Evans A LOT... However, last year we dismissed Ore (very similar to the Q situation), and then we lost Kenny Lewis (our starter). That gave us the ability to see Evans tear it up the remainder of the season. As sad as the situation is for Evans, Beamer tends to always find solid RBs. Williams and Wilson are both explosive, although neither appear to have the blocking skills yet of Evans. Wednesday's scrimmage was not open to the public so I did not get to see it, but with Oglesby back and with Williams and Wilson ready to see some D1 action I am not worried at all. The offensive line looks like it has greatly improved since last year (although when I watched them in the scrimmages they played against second and third Ds), and I think both of the young RBs will do fine as long as Oglesby stays healthy so neither has to play in excess in the beginning. Although Williams has received the most hype of any of these guys, Wilson is to me the most exciting player. Combine that with TT's speed I think the backfield will be fine. It is interesting that Beamer focuses on this through media... We have yet to see if the young WRs have improved that much more. They do need to step it up this year. The D looks absolutely amazing. But hey, it's August and practice.... We'll see what they are really like in a week. Heading down to Atlanta very optimistic, but I am actually more excited about you all coming to Blacksburg two weeks later.
  23. I don't know... I just always knew growing up that I would have closets full of maroon and orange (yes, that is a lovely color-scheme) clothes with a wanna-be turkey on them. Besides my grandma on Thanksgiving, I think only people in Blacksburg would decorate themselves with turkeys. Is it creepy? I don't know. I do find the Golden Hurricane thing from Tulsa creepier. It's just weird.
  24. Beating a top 10 team...on the road. Anyone want to take a shot in the dark guess at the top 10 team, on the road, where I'd like the Huskers to start? Yes Jen, I think I have an idea...
