  1. You'd better have some thick skin if you're his AD. Leach rubs people (ie big time boosters) the wrong way. He's not a people person. Given all the problems he's caused and is causing his bosses, he won't be working in college football at the I-A, BCS level anytime soon. Just my thoughts.
  2. Judging by the measurements and the picture from the article, he looks physically ready to go at the collegiate level. As a DT, he's probably right where he needs to be size wise. Fact is, as a D linemen you better be one nasty SOB when you get on the field because it's like a streetfight every play. I think I read somewhere that Rome's old man trains or used to train MMA fighters???? I'm sure the use of hands and leverage is not lost on this kid. Given Pelini's track record with DT's, I suspect this guy will be good.
  3. I'm in the Kansas City area. KC is essentially Omaha with a couple pro sports franchises, nothing more, nothing less. And I think most people here will tell you Omaha is a much better run city than Kansas City proper. If you live in KC, it's pretty much a requirement that your kids go to private school or parochial schools as the school district is flat out awful. The politics are very shady to say the least in the city too. I'm in the suburbs so those things are not an issue. I usually attend one Chiefs game a year, good time but an all day pricey endeavor. I suppose Nebraska games are about the same in price and time but at least it's on a Saturday so I can use Sunday to recover. As far as the comparisons to a place like Denver, I don't really get why they can't support their college teams out there? Denver is a lot larger than Omaha and closer to Boulder or as close. Same with Ft. Collins. Ski season doesn't really ramp up until football is done. So use your Saturday to attend a home game and do the outdoor activities on Sunday before the Broncos game. Fact is, they don't care in Colorado like we do in Nebraska, plain and simple.
  4. Keitzman's hatred of all things red is well documented and out there in the open. He (as well as a great deal of other KSU fans) have a huge inferiority complex. He keeps Husker subjects in the rotation just to appease the local Nebraska base but I'm sure it pains him to do so. I can't listen to his drivel....it's painful. He's successful because he let's any old rube call into his show and go on and on with meaningless garbage. Most other hosts will cuts clowns like that off in short order or screen them. And yeah, I get that your sponsors pay the bills and such but he's over the top in his stupid segments with the local BBQ Grill shop or wherever else he's running a remote. I was flipping around back before the KU game and he stated "Nebraska will absolutely get rolled by KU in Lawrence, you just watch".
  5. C'mon, the kid ran the spread in high school, lots of zone read. He is for a fact...bigger and faster than Zac Lee. I don't think I'm going too far out on a branch saying he is a threat to run the ball vs. Zac Lee. Do you really think Lee would've pushed the ball even a yard on those sneaks down near our end of the goal line? I'm afraid Lee is going to get broken in half everytime he runs the ball. He never delivers a hit on a run, just takes a big one.
  6. Might as well add my $.02. If we're just going to try to run the ball in an effort to not make errors (game plan against UT, for example), then why not put Green in? He's actually a threat that you would have to account for as opposed to Zac Lee. I mean, it's painful watching him run the option...just don't do it! Now, if you're going to have to put it up, I think Lee is your guy. I don't think Green is there yet in the passing department. The throws you made in high school just aren't there. With all that, we need to find some game breaking wide receivers...ASAP. Kinnie looks to be coming along but we need a go to guy who plays every down. Paul is close but not quite. Maybe next year he'll be that guy. Until then, if we're going to hang our hat on trying to run and not make mistakes, give Green some snaps.
  7. Good article on this one in the World Herald today. I remember this game vividly. I watched it at Minsky's in North Kansas City. I had watched one other game there - ASU the same year. I had just graduated and spent the majority of my years in Lincoln leaving for the bars at halftime with a game well in hand. The ASU loss put me in a severe depression for about 3 weeks. I truly enjoyed watching those clowns lose to Ohio State - too bad for you ASU. The Texas game was BRUTAL. There weren't a lot of people at Minsky's but the one's there were cheering (loudly) for UT. I've never been back, not too mention I live on the Kansas side. Took weeks to recover from that one.
  8. Wow, lots of hate in this post. I listened to Peter's show over the internet on pretty much a daily basis and I enjoyed it a lot. He and Wilkerson made a good combo. I think you read waaaay too much in to some of the stuff he says. A lot of comments came across as 'tongue in cheek' to me. And as far as your comments about his perceived possible future coaching style....it mirrors what he was taught from McBride, 80% emotion, 20% technique. I tend to disagree with that attitude in this day and age of college ball - a big part of defending spread offense is discipline and technique - as evidenced under Pelini. It makes for good radio though, when you don't agree with the view of the host it pulls you in. It sounds to me like you doubt his love of the program? I think this guy bleeds scarlet and cream. Just because he didn't come back to games until after his book came out doesn't mean he wasn't a Husker through and through. If you read his book he talks a lot about what playing at Nebraska meant to him and how pro ball couldn't touch it. To me, he didn't drink the Kool Aid, and yeah at times he could be almost over the top in his critique of the team and players but look at what the teams that guy came from. They crushed everyone week in and week out with very rare exceptions during his career. They had an extremely high standard that they as players made everyone live up to. I still remember hearing stories about how Wistrom and Peter used to make second and third team defensive players run steps because they let teams score on them in garbage time. With all that, I think he ends up doing radio somewhere, but unfortunately no in Lincoln. It was probably too small a market for it's own local show to begin with.
  9. Fisher and Compton both have their work cut out for them in the off season. It'll come, they're young guys and things will get easier for them next season.
  10. I don't know, it seems to me like a lot of the times we've blitzed this season we've paid for it as the opponents have picked up first downs anyway.
  11. Did you know Osborne used to Coach QB's to underthrow the long ball? If you over throw and get no catch, you waste a down. If you underthrow, you at least pick up the yards, if not the score.
  12. I crushed three runzas at the game Saturday....probably due to all the alcohol I consumed. Saw lots of purple peeps at the game and didn't see any problems between fans. Seemed pretty respectful. Saw a Husker fan vomit in planter on O St after the game. I felt for the guy but laughed as well, he looked in really bad shape and was waiting for a buddy to pick him and take him home.
  13. Tim Grunhard (played for Notre Dame, Chiefs) coaches HS ball in the area at Bishop Miege and says he can't in good conscience recommend any of his players accept a scholarship from KU. Mangino is good as done.
  14. There were more deets on this stuff in the KC Star this morning. Basically, the guy got personal with kids. Someone's brother had been shot in St. Louis, he used this fact while berating the kid for dropping a pass. I mean, coaches are always yelling at players but c'mon. The stuff Mangino was doing was basically like fraternity hazing. It's one thing to ride a kids butt and say, "I'll run you from here to eternity" but dropping stuff like "you do that again and I'll ship you back to the hood where you'll be the next one shot" is over the line. One kid admitted to some teammates his old man was an alky and Mangino busted that one out as well. He constantly singled guys out in locker....at halftime of games even. I mean, I don't get it, what kind of behavior is this garbage supposed to get out of your guys????? These facts are out there and believe me, NO ONE, is going to want to play for this guy when they start reading these things. Mangino is as good as gone.
  15. Sean Fisher and Will Compton will most certainly earn their scholarships in this game, that's for sure. Those two should be fresh because they really haven't played at all with the offenses we've been playing. Honestly, I don't know what to make of this game. I do think if we get up early it could get ugly for KSU. If we let them hang around it's gonna be a nail biter.
  16. Sticks is a slimy bastard....slimy good that is. He would present more problems than Potts, that's for sure. Don't know what to think in this one though. Tech is a bit schizo, show up one week, go to sleep the next. Either way, I'm pulling for OU over that stupid Pirate Leach.
  17. I totally remember those games. The opponents QB would kind of hold his hands up like "I can't communicate with my team it's too loud" and the officials would give a warning. Makes me laugh to think they used to try to control crowd noise.
  18. I'd have to say my favorite was when we won down in Manhattan in 2006. Zac Taylor was QB and we had a pretty decent D with Carriker and the fellas up front. Went to the game and KSU could do absolutely nothing with our front 4 and they beat the crap out of Freeman. He even made some comments about how he thought some of it was borderline cheap shots but basically he was just getting it handed to him. I think at the end of the game when it was basically over KSU couldn't put it in the endzone after 4 tries from inside our 5 yard line or there abouts.
  19. Why wait til noon? Needed recovery time. My liver and my head just can't cope like they used to.
  20. Coming into the season and planning my annual trip up to Lincoln for a stay at Embassy Suites and pretending I'm in college for the weekend (no kids, no responsibility, I'm sure some can relate), I perused the schedule and thought I would pick a game with a good shot of a victory. Admittedly, I was in doubt on the KSU game as the season progressed and hey, we still gotta play and KSU poses a threat. I mean look at the ISU game. But who knew it would shape up like this? Night game, chance to claim the North...doesn't get any better. I assume I will be nursing a nice hangover Saturday morning but will choke down my first beer at noon and it will only get easier from there. I should be well lubed up by kickoff. Anyone else going?
  21. If there's any surefire way to get a laugh out of me, it's a nut shot.
  22. KU is about as close to having nothing to lose as ever, but then again, they do need one more game for bowl eligibility. OU is done and over and we need to refocus!
  23. I saw some encouraging signs on offense, particularily our run game with the fullback. I think our receivers will be able to get a little separation against other secondaries. OU's is solid. With that said, Nebraska needs to strap it on this weekend for KU.
  24. Statistically Paul had a pretty big game but that one play and the loss overshadowed it. I was disappointed with his lack of effort on the last "non" drive at the end of the game. Lee threw one deep and it seemed he didn't even want to go up and try to take the ball and the defender just knocked it down. Some may disagree but I thought it was a catchable ball similar to a rebound.
