  1. Other things are contributing with Heard not playing as much as Abdullah, specifically he injured his groin mid-season and he isn't as progressed as Abdullah in pass protection. He definitely looks very natural as a runner though.
  2. Well, I'd say Taylor has earned a lot of respect over the years, but some rings would go a long way in changing those perceptions. There's a good reason - like him or not - he's not universally hailed as one of the greatest QBs in Husker history because, fair or not, our history is littered with QBs who have won, and won a lot, and Taylor doesn't have that yet. He has 4-loss seasons and no CCG titles under his belt. I hope he gets one next year. Carnes brought a lot to the table: athleticism, shake-and-bake running, improvisational skills, big boy throws (including on the run). Obvious there's a great deal more to being a QB than just being athletic and having passer fundamentals, and obviously his career as a QB here has derailed, but I don't think you could say people got nuts over him for one scrimmage. Incidentally, that's a pretty fairy way to describe how Taylor won his job: a few nifty plays in a scrimmage, and all of a sudden the depth chart is turned on its head, and the offense is getting a just-pre-season-start makeover. zoogies got this right. Keep in mind that coaches aren't always right. They're just like anyone else. Great players and sometimes the best players don't always start off as the 'starter' or as the 1st or 2nd round draft pick, the guy who has 4 or 5 stars etc. It by far wouldn't be the first time a coach ultimately went with the wrong guy. I actually wouldn't be upset if Carnes decided to transfer. I also don't buy into the whole 'oh the spring game didn't mean anything' bs which is popular here on HuskerBoard. Carnes made plays. Besides outplaying Martinez who had a couple of turnovers in that game as well....Carnes performance in my estimation was nothing more of a continuation of what he did back in high school in Florida's largest and most competitive class. Then suddenly the guy gets demoted to 3rd string. You almost never see that happening to someone especially after what he showed what he could do in the spring game in front of everyone. Something's not right about this but then I remember who our head coach is. Regardless there will be no true quarterback 'race' next year. It ain't happening. Unless Pelini's chosen one gets injured you're not going to see Armstrong either unless it's in the spring game which apparently doesn't matter... Bring on 2014. I can't wait to see someone else at quarterback finally and furthermore if Nebraska continues getting blown out on national television taboot, losing bowl games and fails to either win or get to a Big 10 title game or get embarassed there again then it's high time to start shopping for a new coach. Or it could be that he couldn't grasp the playbook and couldn't read/adjust to college defenses that dropped him to 3rd string. Sure Pelini's yolked his wagon to Martinez, but Martinez is the most productive QB in Nebraska history, so he hasn't been a bad horse. Those plays that Carnes made in the spring game were also against the 3rd strings. He definitely wasn't facing off against the top guys. And yes the Spring Game doesn't matter. It's a glorified scrimmage. It's good for identifying players with big play potential and giving a look at potential contributors, but there's very little about the game that tells how players will react in real games. Maybe if it was 1s vs 1s, we could look at it differently, but Pelini has the team split up with equal amounts of starters on the Red and White squads.
  3. Martinez is going to walk out of here with every major QB record. Part of that is down to the fact that he is going to start all 4 years, so there's longevity, but he's also broke the single season total yards for Freshmen, Sophomores, and now Juniors.
  4. Also look at how many walk ons we have. We have over 120 players on the team, having 5 scholarships open isn't the end of the world. Especially since we have some walk ons deserving of a scholarship (Janovich for example).
  5. Is there a more productive RB class than ours? Over 5000 yards and 100 TDs between our 2 RB recruits. And they both play in some of the most competitive areas for HS football in the country. Excited for them both.
  6. Terrible play call by ND on 4th Down. Low percentage throw is not a good time to throw it up for grabs.
  7. Give credit to the Tide for how they are taking care of the game, but the Refs had a couple of sketchy calls in the quarter that were clearly wrong. 1 they could have reviewed but didn't and the other is probably going to change the outcome of the game (a blow out instead of a good game).
  8. I don't care who wins this game, but can we please get some even reffing? The refs have been absolutely terrible. Is the NCAA buying into SEC dominance?
  9. Welp, looks like the refs want the SEC to win again. I can get why they called the catch a bobble, but to not review that call and then call that on the punt. Absolute BS reffing.
  10. Prob nothing serious if he was able to play out the year without missing any time.
  11. Part of his kicking might have been with his new holder (see most of his missed kicks were at the beginning of the year). I do think he's a better punter though.
  12. They pulled this sh#t when Miami played Ohio St in 2002. Look what happened. Did it again when USC played Texas in 2005. Look what happened. Put teams on the pedestal before they actually climb up there, and they'll for sure fall off. The S.I. curse!! Just like when they put a team on the cover of their magazine-They lose!! Not sure when the SI curse became known as the SI curse, but if we assume it's been there since its inception, then Nebraska managed to escape the SI curse in 1971. Or it hit NU and OU and canceled out.
  13. I think our Pelini home woes are in the past. We have 2 difficult games at home, UCLA and Northwestern. I don't think we lose to UCLA again, and while Northwestern has improved and will again, I don't think they will be able to stop the offense, especially since they will have 7 games to gel in the new guys. Ditto for the defense. Also it seems like Pelini has also solved the running QB problem. Both Colter and Robinson did very little running the football in both the games with the LBs we had this year. I can see Michigan being a loss only because there's a very real chance we are undefeated at that point, we play them at Michigan, and it could be a night game away. High expectations seem to bite us in the rear with Pelini coupled with our inability to have success in high profile games on the road since we've been in the Big 10. I think we go 11 wins next year, and beat Ohio State in the Big 10 championship.
  14. There's no defense for a perfectly thrown ball. (see 3 Murray TDs) Our offense is going to be absolutely deadly next year. The offense put up 24 points against a Georgia team that was 5 yards from the National Title and we lose absolutely only 1 significant contributor with no back up that didn't play a whole lot (Choi with Pensick moving to Center next year). The defense needs to step up next year. Martinez threw for over 2800 yards and rushed for over 1000, only QB in Nebraska history to do that. Rex will be missed next year, for just his steadying hand on the whole offense. But we also played most of the season without him.
  15. Georgia is a really good team, but again the changing point in the game came off of our own mistake. That's absolutely is something that needs to be addressed. The defense gave up way to many big plays, but Murray has been throwing dimes all over the field. So many perfect throws from him today. Another disappointing game, but our offense will be absolutely deadly next year.
  16. Looked like he just banged his knee. It'll bruise but he's good.
  17. Great play by Murray and Marshall, hard to defend. Defense needs to step up and get a stop.
  18. At least we got a 15 yard penalty out of that, the no call was pathetic though.
  19. The cameras in this game are f'in pathetic. How the heck do you not have at least 1 camera on each side of the field so you can see things from both sides? There's not enough evidence to overturn it even if it's reviewed.
  20. On the last drive Martinez moved past Ganz for the most total yards in a season.
  21. Check that, we've given up over 300 yards in the first half, but it really doesn't feel like it.
