  1. Texas at number 3? no, no, not this year
  2. Going to my first Husker game in over 10 years!! Flying out from Sydney to catch the last game!

  3. I'd have to say yes and no. Yes it was a shock, and yes it did change the direction, but the baylor game wasn't mind blowing either. But I think it truly started going up against Oklahoma and needing to be completely safe, or there is no way we would have won that game. I wouldn't exactly call the ground game against the Sooner D "power" either.
  4. Since these rankings really don't mean too much beyond hype.... I love it!, bring on some national hype for the Huskers.
  5. Heya, another australian here. I download all the games and extras, i get them a day late but i get them. If i'm itching for it i'll stream live but i prefer the HD torrents i get. Not to mention i can save the games themselves for a 6pm start after uni or whenever i feel like it. Great for watching games this far away and having them forever as well. Hopefully we will be BCS or NC bound this year and the night games are broadcast around 10am, there is a great pub in Sydney Eastern suburbs that hosts all the major college and NFL games. The Light Brigade Hotel on oxford st. A lot more fans of college and NFL here than you think... I myself was born in Lincoln, dad got a scholarship to NU moving from Sydney, met mom, i arrived, then we moved to Byron Bay where i grew up. Went back to Lincoln every year for some of our summer (your winter) until i started senior high school. Grandpa and Uncle got me hooked on the Huskers since i had a big N hanging on my crib. University of Sydney now and still a die hard Husker. End of life story.
  6. I'm not 'worried' about the defense either, i just want to see it be "better than last years." That would be an exciting thing to look for. Offensively, I personally will be looking mostly at play calling. It was fun to watch and effective during the bowl game, more of that. Add a little hard-nose on the side.
  7. Have a returning QB to either junior or senior, we've got that, but he needs to prove himself after this recovery period. I think he can.
  8. Yes. A mindset that has been missing, the numbers and stats people are looking for will follow.. Kind of what i got from "Nebraska is back."
  9. Couldn't have said it better. I usually go for underdogs in games i don't care about, but after the first 3 quarters i just simply lost my ineterest. I think the Boise D did best out of any group in the game, but then again, the TCU offense wasn't exactly firing on all cylinders. I think after the game one of the defenders of Boise said they practiced swarming to the ball more and that's one reason why they were successful. I'd love to match up the Huskers with Boise, we'll show you a swarming defense.
  10. That. And way fewer holes in the secondary when we circle 7 and rush 4.
  11. I'm watching the Fiesta Bowl and i'm not very impressed; was wondering where the 09 huskers would have lined up. May admit i'm not a fan of either of these teams and not too sure about the conference strength of each, but do you think the huskers would have done well here? i do.
  12. Bo chewed his own brother's ass for a td at the end of the CU game that had no impact on the outcome of the game. I find it real hard believe this guy considers the bowl an exhibition-game. He hates to lose. haha, his head nearly popped off as they walked off the field.
  13. Every game is important. And it's a bowl game, not a friendly exhibition.
  14. Addressing offensive position players, Watson noted that I-back Roy Helu Jr. was feeling "fresh, he feels healthy and is having good practices." Watson also added that freshman quarterback Cody Green will have a place in the Huskers' game plan against Arizona. "He is going to play. We want him to have an opportunity to play and looking into the future, a chance to set up the competition. There is a place for him to play in this game and we want him to move forward and evaluate him in a game situation against another good team like Arizona." ----- Sounds interesting, i hope he does play a bit, i need something new to watch on offense. It's a good time to be deciding whether he's the future or not i think, the defense will do their job as always, he just has to step up and show people he can do something.
  15. #5 Colorado at #4 Nebraska 1996 Huskers won 17-12, cold and raining, was too short to see over peoples shoulders so my uncle held me up. Ate 2 valentinos slices and 2 stadium dogs as a 7 year old.
  16. I agree that while our OLine was marginal our qb play w/Lee was muich more incredibly inept. If I never see him run the option again it will be too soon. His passing is about as accurate as a howitzer. That SW was raving about him this spring is almost from the Twilight Zone. Our Wr's? Do they come to Lincoln with ready made hands of stone? I still say it's asking too much for our OLine to excel in both run and pass blocking. Excel in one and be decent in the other is what TO's Oline did for decades. Our offense desperately needs an identity. Something they are comfortable and very competent with. Also something to recuit and develop players for. I would still love to see us use a vicious fb. do also agree, can't ask the world of them, but enough of the penalties to start. I'd love to see the TE get some decent use too, some of those Lee bootlegs actually worked.
  17. I just looked at the games Green played in and i'm going to argue he didn't actually to as badly (IN A SOLO ROLE) as the offensive performance under his leadership suggests. Things went horribly wrong around him a good majority of the time, reflecting a bad performance on him alone. Went right around him: (one example) Baylor 1st offensive drive, 3rd down and 5, pocket held long enough and he scrambled for 10 yards or so. Remember for this game Hickman was being changed out with injury, blitz was being picked up less in the second half and CG had a lot less time hence the bad score line. (But this is Baylor, not a Texas D i know) Went wrong: Oklahoma, runs were looking like the Big 12 game, 2 yard dives into the pile, 2nd play of the game was a run fake QB scramble, a missed block on the outside left it for 2. Then a false start... A drop back draw play on 3rd and 11 wasn't going to get a first down with a shrinking pocket. Continued: Next drive against OU, CG from center, option right, pitch, helu 6 yards and then a chop block penalty sends it to 1st and 24. He did fall over on the next option after missing a completely covered bootleg pass attempt. Shuffle pass to helu goes nowhere. Next: Helu, Oline lets D through = -1 yards. Another FALSE START (Pelini's facial veins are now visible). Long pass out of bounds, CG fault. 3rd and 16, short slant route, 5 yards, not going to get a first down against OU from there. 3 flags, 3 drives, 3 3 and outs. I say give him a break on the complete failure. The long pass plays that SW throws in every now and then are just bad ideas to be doing it so often with inept passing QBs at the moment ie. Lee ints vs Texas, and then WTF calling it on the 4 yard line after 2 QB sneaks with CG. He had a lot of plays from the shotgun, i think give him a chance to 'manage the game' (whatever) in the Bowl, give him big sets, under center like Lee had the remainder of the season, and maybe Lee's 3 yard dives from options will turn into something. Still, i held by breath every time he began the motion to sling the ball down the field knowing he has a lot of work to do to be a better pocket passer. Nevertheless, he has a good attitude. I'm going to bet CG makes some worthwhile improvements by 2010.
  18. Spread does not always mean throwing the ball. Florida runs the "spread" and ran the ball 521 times to 328 passes. Oklahoma St runs a "spread" a lot and ran the ball 527 times to 304 passes Oregon runs the "spread" and ran 514 times to 318 passes. Michigan runs the "spread" and ran 494 times to 329 passes Even one of the greatest offenses of all time last year, with a Heisman trophy winning quarterback, Oklahoma ran 589 times to 517 passes. From what i gathered: Diversified, not one or the other. Power run, draw in defenses, throw from spread/PA/option + mix it up after good execution = how he wants to do it. Sounds like a plan, just need an awesome O-line to get all of this started.

  20. This is what players should be like. I know not all huskers are going to be as humble or smart as people like P.J Smith or SUH even, but i would take these two guys anytime (anyone would take suh obviously) over Texas 'cream of the crop.' Potential, brains and coaching have little to do with star ratings on the internet.
  21. scott frost ahman green The age i became conscious/understanding of football as a young kid, these guys were around and made me a fan. First jersey bought for me: number 30, husker red.
  22. A little sketchy on some throws, but this does not trump what time and coaching can do. I hope he has a good transfer to the next level, he's fast and a decent size: 6'2' 192 pounds according to that video. He still has awhile to develop too.
  23. O LINE > QB (at the moment). Not only will it make them look a little better, but the running game won't look like a one yard dive into a pile every single play. Which in turn helps a QB greatly.
  24. Another point that shows committees and advertising trumping competition and the schools representation through the bowl system.
