  1. KB = either the block in the Wisky game or the one handed catch last year AA = Play that always stood out to me was his 4th down conversion prior to the hail mary against NW
  2. I didn't see anything in the rulebook yet about being able to declare eligibility. I remember that in HS coaches said that you should declare eligibility to the official but that it wasn't required ( i think, that was a long time ago) Well...I think that Lewis could've reported as eligible, however it really was a trick play. It was meant to be a lateral and Armstrong or Lewis just didn't quite make it obvious enough. So regardless, it wasn't schematically supposed to be a pass anyways.
  3. I think the issue is how you're reading the rule you're citing from. The entry says that a player is an eligible receiver if he is wearing an eligible number AND ( not OR ) his placement on the field is that of an eligible position. From memory, I DO believe you're correct that Lewis was no covered up by anyone, however he does not have an eligible number. I know in the NFL you can report yourself as eligible if you're wearing an ineligible number (happens when JJ Watt lines up at TE, for instance), but I'm not sure about college. The NCAA rulebook defines eligible receivers for college football in Rule 7, Section 3, Article 3.[1] The determining factors are the player's position on the field at the snap and their jersey number. Specifically, any players on offense wearing numbers between 50 and 79 are always ineligible. All defensive players are eligible receivers and offensive players who are not wearing an ineligible number are eligible receivers if they meet one of the following three criteria: Player is at either end of the group of players on the line of scrimmage (usually the split end and tight end) Player is lined up at least one yard behind the line of scrimmage (running backs, fullbacks, etc.) Player is positioned to receive a hand-to-hand snap from the center (almost always the quarterback) Players may only wear eligible numbers at an ineligible position when it is obvious that a punt or field goal is to be attempted. A receiver loses his eligibility by leaving the field of play unless he was forced out by a defensive player and immediately attempts to get back inbounds (Rule 7-3-4). All players on the field become eligible as soon as the ball is touched by a defensive player or an official during play (Rule 7-3-5). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eligible_receiver
  4. because hes had 4 god damn weeks to get this sh#t out of his system and go out as a proud HUSKER. Not a damn Boliever. Perfectly depicts all the problems with the program inside and out over the past 7 years. Us vs world. At least under Riley us fans will be back on the US side.Because you make "the world" seem so wonderful..You have also had 4 weeks to get this sh#t out of your system!and i did until i sat down to eatch the game last night to see Kenny celebrating a Husker td by rubbing bo frickin pelini back in my face. Im not fiscussin this any further. I know my opinion is pretty brash. And i understand why. I understand why its been met with some considerable opposition and im fine with that. Opinions are opinions for a reason. I have been severly unimpressed with a lit of Kennys behavior off the field for a while now. My opinion. I wont miss him. It is what it is. But dude...you had 4 f***ing weeks to get Bo out of your system. Whenever someone replies with 'it's my opinion so just leave it alone', it usually means they realize they're being unreasonable and don't feel like answering for it.
  5. Thanks KB. Met the kid over here in Boulder before his freshman year. Great guy. Guy gave everything he had everytime. Did everything the coaches wanted him to. Never had any off the field issues. Supported his coach...even to a fault. But I never thought he did it at the expense of the program. Those that say 'good riddance'...I'm ashamed of you.
  6. Any quarterback that takes a ridiculous 5 yard loss when he could simply chuck the ball inthe stands is not a smart player. Any QB that throws a pick like that to follow needs to be benched. Horrendous.
  7. Kid was working his ass off by all accounts this offseason and tore his achilles. Hasn't been super healthy and put the onus on himself to say he 'wasn't working hard enough', something that a lot of athletes are guilty of, but few admit. And people are on here as if the dude has a decade's worth of underachievement under his belt. I think the real issue is that he looked so great early in his career, and people anointed him the next (fill in the blank).
  8. Pelini once glared at me and said 'there's no such thing as Santa Claus' a few days ago. He ruined Christmas.
  9. Hmmmm Foreman talked about it. He likes the DT's to penetrate and disrupt and "spill" the run game to the edges with fast and tenacious pursuit from the linebackers. Takes a lot of mental stress off the back 7 from having to be so technical in the run fit game and it gives them a chance of using the sideline as a 12th defender and not having to be so sound in setting the edge. But the thing is, you gotta have some real tenacious guys at linebacker, and guys that can flat out move. But this type of thing is also rather susceptible to the misdirection I would. But if youre penetrating, and the backside DE is "staying at home" properly, I would think it wouldnt be too bad. Gotcha. I definitely believe 1 gap penetration is absolutely crucial to relieving mental stress.
  10. I would definitely say I was uncomfortable listening to it. And I would bet more than a few players felt the same way.
  11. I'm not sure what is more fascinating... 1) the fact that he comes across as a petulant teenager bitching about how his parents grounded him for no reason 2) his apparent complete inability to temper the emotions of a group of young men who needed a calming voice and some kind of message to help them move ahead 3) or Bo's complete ineptitude in even HAVING a coherent message after two days to think about it. He may have his players' 'back', but is it any wonder why the players lack direction on the field? That was a truly misguided rambling. I gotta say...after listening to the whole thing, something interesting he said: He talked about how things were great when he got to do the 'Xs and Os', but the other 'bullsh#t' made him want to quit. He wanted to be a head coach, right? More than anything, from what I remember in 2007. The other 'bullsh#t' is what being a head coach is at a major university. Best soundbite of the day: 'This stays here, fellas'
  12. I don't think she's misguided necessarily. There really isn't much evidence to support the notion that rapists and child molesters are rehabilitated. For argument's sake, let's take her at her word that she was raped, even though Peter was never convicted of it criminally.....she sees a guy who raped her...he's never really been punished for what he did (if the worst thing that happens to a guy with Christian's rap sheet is that he has trouble getting drafted, then I'd say he's gotten away with quite a bit), and now he's being implicitly championed as a model for reform and, strangely, a resource for creating preventative measures against assault. My personal opinion...Christian Peter was and is a scumbag. He's never really been held accountable for what he's done, and for this article to paint him as some sort of Phoenix metaphor..rising from the ashes...the guy never really lost anything. He hurt a lot of people and probably should have been in jail long ago. He says he made mistakes (nice way of putting what he's done), but mostly offers up a nice long list of excuses...ranging from steroid use to ADD to dyslexia. If Redmond was raped as she says she was...can you maybe see why she thinks this is a cruel joke? He's being brought in to prevent sexual assault, and yet....he stops short of admitting he even committed assault. I hear his language..and what I see is a guy who is still not accountable and really doesn't think he did anything wrong....except he says he should have called her back after 'consensually' having sex with her. My BS meter is screaming. Just my opinion.
  13. Yeah...you certainly did a hell of a job putting this whole thread together. The hours of your own time it must've taken to organize all of this and show the man how much he really does mean. And it will bring tears to the eyes of his sons, whom I'm sure scour Huskerboard every day hoping to glean some kind of kind words for their dad. Get over yourself. You wrote a few sentences that pretty much say 'even though none of us like him...let's say some kind words now that he's almost assuredly fired'. I'm sure Barney Cotton has people in his life that matter to him and think he's a fine human being....same as we all do. Leave it at that.
  14. ^ disagree You disagree that hiring the right assistants is where it all starts? Do explain.
  15. With an addendum that all Power 5 conferences must have a championship game.
  16. It's an upgrade if the new car doesn't give up the world record for rushing yards in a single game, and half your punt returns don't end in turnovers Man you guys got to let that go. The man was on fire, 1 man. Your blaming bo, not saying he wasnt the man in charge but jesus what about the guys on the field. Didnt they have some part in that. You know what? No. We don't have to let that go. The record book will not be letting that go and it will still be hard to move past it next April when Gordon gets drafted and every single piece of film showed has nebraska jerseys losing contain and arm tackling. 408 yards. The man was on fire? This isn't the NBA. The man was on fire because he had gaping holes and was barely touched all game long. There are some running backs that can make a defense look silly. Gordon is a fine college runner, but he will go the likes of Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, etc. He will just be another guy in the league...only difference is that he will be recognized as the back that dropped 4 bills in one game. That record has everything to do with our defense and our former coach. The fact that Gordon got smothered against Ohio St. only serves to remind us of the futility that cleaned out their collective offices a week and a half ago. So don't forget. Don't let it go.
  17. I'm a bit disappointed. I really thought Riley would have a short list of guys and really be ambitious about going after some guys other than ones he worked with. Maybe this will all work out, but the last thing I wanted to hear was that he was bringing in what amounts to the entire f***ing OSU coaching staff. Maybe they're good coaches in a bad situation....but with each hire we are basically hanging by the very thin opinion that Oregon St has had an all-star coaching staff, but was such an untenable situation that no one could've hoped to win there. I wasn't expecting necessarily an all-star ensemble, but I was expecting Riley to put together a list of coordinators and position coaches that he knows and respects across all of college football. He's been around for a while and he knows a lot of people in the business, from what we're told. Instead, he's bringing his old buddies, with whom he has won fewer games than he has lost recently. Just the facts.
  18. I saw that. They did just win the Pac 12 title after all. First one for both. I don't see the Riley/Frost thing working. They run vastly different systems and Riley is his own OC. Riley said that we was not totally married to his offense system, just some parts. Riley said, "Hey, I know next to nothing about Nebraska,....what should I say?" and some local guy said ,"just say blah blah blah walkons blah blah tradition blah blah willing to listen blah blah I love you Lincoln blah blah you're a great audience blah blah............." If he peppered in 'blah blah fullback blah blah', many on this board would already want to extend his contract.
  19. This should honestly shut up any lingering Bo-lievers.
  20. Completely agree on KSU, Boise St, and Utah program. Similar situations to OSU. The others I don't think are good comparisons. Certainly not valid comparing Devaneys era with today, or McCartneys. Michigan St has more resources. TCU and Baylor reside in a recruiting Mecca with UT down. Same deal with Mississippi teams. Missouri is and has been pretty Jeckyl and Hyde since Pinkel arrived. Minnesota has had reasonable success although I would argue their record would be similar to OSU's if they were in the PAC 12. I understand the desire to harken back to the good ol days and the ad nauseum repeated 'smash mouth football', but the real problem isn't that we don't have a fullback. It's not that we have prima Donna quarterbacks (I wouldn't mind a 'Peyton Manning' type QB by the way, for obvious reasons)....the problem is and has been the lack of any succinct identity. Alabama doesn't run the option. They do throw quite a bit too. But they have an identity. They do something and they do it well. That's what Riley claims to be about and I like that. I'm utterly confused by your point here. Osborne was a nice guy who had tough football teams, but Riley being a nice guy precludes us from being tough? Yes Frost was a good QB for us awhile back. He was tough. You know who else was tough and played for us? Tommie Frazier. Grant Wistrom. Mike Rucker. Barron Miles. Etc. Should we bring them here for an interview? Not sure if you know this, but Frost would be hired based on the offense he has deployed at Oregon. Which is not exactly of the 'grind it out' variety you seem to want. So once again..I'm a bit confused about why this hire would meet your criteria. We can agree here
  21. youre the only one in the state of nebraska who doesnt want orgeron. So just stop please. All that I am saying is that we need to look at a guy's character, first. Yeah, he's a great coach, but what about his character? You could dig up sh#t and nitpick character in regards to ANYONE. Yes, even the almighty himself TO. Right. Because we all have had restraining orders against us. If we get Orgeron, that's fine. But this whole dismissal of the points HISD is making makes you look foolish. Just say 'yeah, he's a loose cannon, but we his recruiting prowess makes up for it'
  22. I'm sorry...if that's what happens then I'll be very disappointed. We just fired a guy and the root cause for many is that he hired on his boys and was loyal to a fault. Eichorst is speaking as if the real coup here is the ability to put together a "top notch" staff.....which leads me to believe the assistant salary pool is substantial and probably was a selling point to Riley to get him here. "That has to do with discipline, that has to do with growth, that has to do with a real vision for helping these young men in all the ways.” -Mike Riley on the qualities he's looking for in his staff. Seems to be directly addressing issues with Bo's teams to date: Discipline - among the most penalized and turnover prone teams in the nation annually Growth - lack of player development (Taylor Martinez was arguably a better quarterback as a freshman than he was as a senior) Vision - lack of any clear identity on offense. Constantly outschemed on defense. That might be a little unfair to Pelini, as I remember he said in his first press conference when asked about what kind of people he wanted on his staff..he said 'teachers and communicators', and it really appeared that with Carl and Marvin especially...he had that. The defense he put together in 09 and 10 were very disciplined, very stingy units. I think the dilution started when he promoted Papuchis and Beck.
