Well, the talent evaluation is a bit hit or miss for everyone. Sometimes 5-stars don't pan out for a variety of reasons, maybe their work ethic sucks once they get to college and have all the distractions, or maybe they simply peaked early and at 18 were just about as good as they were ever going to be. A perfect example is Ryan Perrilloux, a "can't-miss" 5-star who never did anything and couldn't stay out of trouble, while Colt McCoy was only a 3-star. I think Texas evaluates talent as well as anyone and the problem is moreso in developing it, at least on the offensive side of the ball. It seems like we've been fortunate to get some guys who maybe don't need a whole lot of coaching. VY, Cedric Benson, Jamaal Charles, and Selvin Young were all freakishly good athletes - just give em the ball. And guys like Colt and Shipley just get it, they have very-good-but-not-exceptional talent and their minds are very sharp and they live in the film room. But when we got a group of raw talent, they've stayed raw for way too long. As for why those position coaches are still there, I think it's just because Mack is a really loyal guy, maybe to a fault. Even when Duane Akina ran our defense into the ground as the DC, Mack didn't fire him, he moved him to coaching the DBs. But changes will have to be made after this fiasco of a season. Davis isn't going anywhere, and I have to give him credit for being an excellent quarterbacks coach, so that at least partially offsets his ineptitude at playcalling. But I'd like to see McWhorter gone and a new O line coach brought in, and I'd like to see Kennedy replaced as WR coach. I think it would make sense to move Major Applewhite over to WR coach. I love having him on the staff because he's a future OC, and probably a good one, but he's got to have more that he could teach the WRs than the RBs, then we could bring in a proper RB coach. I think those changes would go a long way. Or... None of these changes will happen and Malcolm Brown will make them all look like geniuses again. Either way, it can't be this bad two years in a row. Out of all the predictions I've seen so far, this is by far the craziest. Anything's possible, but I'd take the bet against this one. Bo is very highly thought of -- a lot of people think he's the best guest fan on there. He does a weekly write-up on college football that is very appreciated. I don't recall anyone telling him to f off -- if you say it happened I'm sure it did, but it's certainly not a regular occurrence. You have to understand, shaggy started as a spin-off from hornfans.com, which is the most overmoderated site on the web. You can't say ANYTHING negative about the team or any player there, even when it's true, or they'll ban you for a few days. The moderators are jerks and they're wayyyyy over the top in how they handle everything and they get into personal arguments with posters then hold a grudge forever, etc. So some computer types got tired of it and started shaggy as an alternative that would not be moderated at all, and several hundred people immediately defected and went over to the shag. Now it's moderated, because it has to be, but very, very loosely moderated, which means people can say just about anything they want. And yes, some people abuse that. So, yeah, you'll have to filter through a lot of foul language, but no one is going to tell you to f off just for being a fan of another school. An ISU guy asked about tailgating in Austin and he's gotten a ton of helpful, cordial advice. You kinda get back what you put out there on shaggybevo. The people that get told off are usually not completely innocent themselves. Anyway, if you can ignore the tools, there really is a lot of very knowledgeable football talk on there. You just have to figure out whose posts to read and whose to ignore. And it's not a bunch of sunshine pumping like you'll find on OB and HF. Shaggy has threads with pictorial breakdowns of why our offense is so hideous and how Blake Gideon is always out of position. We might be a bunch of jerks, but at least we're realistic jerks! With all these conspiracy theories it sounds like we are in the Callahan era again. And if this stuff is true and the staff is not on the same page, it will not end up well for us this season. And as far as Ganz not liking Lee, does he not like him as a QB or as a person? If he does not like him as a person, he has no business coaching. A coach can not have personal vendettas against their players, its just not right.

Interesting stats about KSU's defense. Along with the nation's 7th best pass efficiency D, they have the 3rd best pass D in the Big 12, allowing only 153.8 yards per game, so Martinez will have his work cut out for him if we have to depend heavily on the pass game. At the same time, that shouldn't be the case because of the other stat mentioned above. In spite of KSU's strong pass D, they still rank 8th in yards allowed per game because of their rush D, which is dead last in the B12 so far (195.5 yards allowed per game). This bodes well for the Husker offense, which despite a poor showing vs SDSU, still ranks #1 in rushing offense by a wide margin over #2 KSU (309.2 to 216). Wounded animals are dangerous? If this were the case we would have been a heck of a lot better during the Callahan era. Im pretty sure when we would lose multiple games, it would all just spiral out of control and get worse. Teams don't get better by losing multiple games, their confidence goes down the tube and things keep getting worse. Yes, they will be up for this game, but so will we and our fans are gonna be LOUD! Perhaps louder than the Washington crowd in the 90's.
