  1. My thing with Iowa is their fans. I live on the Nebraska/Iowa border and they talk so much smack like Iowa is so much better than Nebraska like their football program is light years ahead of Nebraska. They rub in a Husker loss and it's always like "How bout them Huskers" as they're laughing. I don't talk about or even think about Iowa but I can't say the same thing about Iowa fans. I don't talk to Iowa fans or even bring up a Iowa loss but once Nebraska losses I'm the first person to hear about it. All throughout the season and offseason I hear nothing but trash talk about Nebraska from my Iowa friends and coworkers and it's mind boggling because they haven't beat us since 1982 and they have nothing to backup their smack talk. It's like a kid (Nebraska fan) getting bullied and picked on (Iowa fan talking smack and rubbing in a Husker loss) that the kid gets sick of being bullied that he retaliates and beats up the bully (Nebraska fan provided facts to Iowa fan on why they shouldn't be talking smack and how much better Nebraska is) See for me, living in Lincoln that statement would read as follows: They rub in an Iowa loss and it's always like "How bout them Hawkeyes" as they're laughing. And it is really really annoying. My entire family is Husker fans (they are not the problem) and have Husker season tickets so I try really really hard to cheer for the Huskers but there are just so many fans that are dicks to me because I live in Lincoln and cheer for the Hawkeyes that it makes it really hard. The really funny thing is when I went to the Nebraska/Texas game last year with my father in law, I was wearing my Hawkeye stuff and the Nebraska fans were so rude to me that my father in law was tempted to start cheering for Texas just because he was so embarrassed by how the new younger generation of Husker fans were behaving. In the end he cheered for Nebraska and I just enjoyed being at an epic game.
  2. I think you should get to the bathroom - it's starting to impact your thinking...you're spewing out crazy talk. This the same Iowa that lost to both Northwestern & the dominant Minnesota last year? 2-3 on the road in 2010, and they're coming to Lincoln? This the same Nebraska that lost to Iowa State 2 years ago and almost lost last year? And yet I seem smart enough to figure out that Nebraska truly is significantly better than Iowa State even though the games against them the past 2 years in isolation wouldn't lead someone to that conclusion.
  3. Because of cocky attitudes like this given the fact that Iowa has been relevant more recently than Nebraska.
  4. Kansas won't get left out with their basketball program as long as they can separate from K-State. Baylor would be more likely to get left out than them.
  5. Haven't looked for the official announcement and Miller doesn't link to it - but here is the link to his article. http://www.hawkeyenation.com/football/official-b1g-to-nine-games-in-2017
  6. Shouldn't have tried reading this thread at midnight...makes no sense...would try again in the morning if I thought it would help but I somehow doubt it will...
  7. I really don't like the thought of the SEC all the way up into Missouri. I would much rather the Big 10 add them. Keep the SEC isolated down there in the south/southeast. The big reason I can't see Missouri in the SEC - it SNOWS there. When have you ever seen an SEC team playing in the snow. What are they going to do - make Missouri play all of its home games in the first 7 weeks of the season so they can continue to deny that snow exists down there?
  8. If you all think the trophy sucks we will be happy to keep it in Iowa City so you don't have to look at it.

    SEC vs Big 10

But what are we looking at as far as the last 10 years go? 16-17. This is bowl games only, not head to head matchups period. Damn - it could take us an entire day to make up that deficit...

    SEC vs Big 10

So once we start to include Nebraska's record we will have at least a 4-5 season lead over them if we don't get things turned around as a conference against the SEC. Of course it appears that if we just have Iowa and Nebraska play the SEC we should be ok
  11. If your games are close then you will lose one or two on a controversial call and you will win one or two on a controversial call. It is college football. There are always controversial calls that if the game is close can affect the outcome. At least it is slightly better now with replay.
  12. The fact that we haven't played you has caused a lot of that hatred. Consider that over the past decade we feel that we have been as good as Nebraska but since we never were able to prove it in head to head matchups, many (not all) Nebraska fans still hold this air of superiority that just drives us nuts. We recognize that over all of history Nebraska has been the better team - which given that both teams are essentially the same from a location/availability of recruits standpoint also drives us nuts as we know that we were *this close* to having the same kind of success but could just never quite get over the hump. Combine all of that frustration with some Nebraska fans with the natural stupidity that can arise (in both states) from growing up in the middle of corn fields with nothing to do but be a redneck, add in a dash of easy access via the internet and you get some really bizzare things coming to light that even 15 years ago you would never have seen because it would have stayed in the middle of the cornfields.

    Jim Tressel

Because the reason they might not get hit hard is they already cleaned him out and if they bring him back it might open things back up?
  14. why is that? 7 divisional and 1 rotating = 8. You wouldn't play teams in the other division very often - but you'd have 7 other teams in your own division so who cares. Would they do two divisions or four? Three in-division games, plus two from each of the other divisions, rotating the other two every couple of years. No rivalry games, no dedicated crossovers. I would hope they would do four 4 team divisions so that you could end up playing every team in the conference in a 2 on 2 off schedule.
  15. 9 conference games becomes a requirement if you go to 16 teams. Just saying
  16. Chattanooga - W by 35+ looks good. Fresno State - W by 17 looks good. Washington - W by 10 Should win by more as this will be a revenge game from the bowl. Wyoming - W by 24 I think this will be much closer than this - maybe 14 points. Wisconsin - L by 3 to 7 looks good. Ohio State - W by 4 I don't think this will be a close win. It will either be a 14 point win or a close loss - but tOSU seems to squeak out the close ones. Minnesota - W by 20 The only way this stays this close is if this falls into trap game territory. Mich St - L by 4 Michigan State will play right into NE's strength. You should win this big. Northwestern - W by 14 I think this will be a classic trap game that NW just might pull off. Besides - I would rather them pull it off here than against Iowa again Penn State - W in OT I have no clue how this one will turn out because both teams have so many offensive questions - so classic copout looks good. Michigan - W by 7 Michigan will be in a tailspin by this point and you should roll by 14-20. Iowa - W by 7 Iowa doesn't lose games by 7! We lose by 3 having missed at least 2 FGs! However we don't miss the FGs this time and win by 3!!! 9-3 and the Iowa/Nebraska game was the deciding game for who plays against Wisconsin in the first conference championship game!
  17. I would guess one of the top targets would be Kansas so long as they are not shackled to Kansas State. We got a major football (and all sports but basketball) boost with Nebraska and I would expect them to go after one of the top all time basketball programs.
  18. That is so nice of you to come cheer on the Hawks in the Big Ten Championship game Tood I haven't compared the schedules of Iowa and Nebraska yet to see what game other than the Iowa game I will be going to - but whatever home game Nebraska has that Iowa is away and the Iowa game will be the two I go to this year.

  20. My in-laws had Dish. They are now switching to DirectTV due to crappy service from Dish.

    GO HAWKS!!!

Figured I would get day 1 off to a good start over here Glad that it is finally official! Now I can stop arguing with co-workers and friends over which is better - the Big 10 or the Big 12 because it is now obvious which is better. Of course there is still that little matter of Iowa vs. Nebraska - but at least that will be settled on the field finally in a little less than 5 months. May we both be undefeated entering that game
  23. But did he get the reduced tuition? Doesn't matter - Cotton wouldn't have gotten any reduced tuition had he walked on either. The thread is about Barney paying his full tuition (since the Cotton family has already received 250,000 in extra benefits from the university in the form of tuition for Ben/Jake) vs. a 3rd scholarship for the family. Considering we've already given scholarships to 2 of his kids, I'm confident the school would be in a very solid position to defend itself on this one had they decided to make Sam a walk-on - so since they didn't he must be pretty damn good or have a hell of a lot of potential to be. I'm not sure I'd believe this since an offer is in no way binding. The only thing binding about the recruiting process is the signed LOI. Even a written offer is easily negated - so if this was true a school like Iowa could offer the top 50 Nebraska recruits every year just to ensure none of them could walk on at Nebraska. Doesn't mean they'd have to sign or "recruit" any of them. Also, this means that every kid that chose to walk-on at Nebraska, over a scholarship offer from Kansas (i'm sure there have been some) or New Mexico State would be in violation of NCAA rules. His statement was in regards to coaches kids with D1 offers not being able to walk on. Normal, non-affiliated kids can do whatever they want as far as taking an offer or walking on.
  24. In order to keep schools from gaming the system you must have no money from the school and be a walk on, or be on athletic scholarship. There are also a bunch of other benefits that a player gets from being on scholarship that walk-ons don't I believe. I think that the special meals in the dorms are only for scholly players but I could be wrong on that one. I know that all of Ferentz's kids at Iowa were on football scholarship to be within NCAA rules.
