I have been watching a ton of tape over the last few months. I think calling Nebraska's D horrible or abysmal is a gross overstatement, and it doesn't really explain why we lost 8 games. Despite not having a true nose, good safeties, and starting the best catch tackler/ most underwhelming 4 year starter in Nebraska history (D.Young); they didn't get a ton of help from the Offense when it mattered. Our Offense was so boom or bust, but mostly bust. There are so many quarters where the Offense did not put up points. If Nebraska is able to just eliminate scoreless halves and quarters, it changes everything. Let alone a decent jump on D would make Nebraska more than formidable. They could contend for the conference rather easily.

Yea, I definitely see an improvement on both sides of the ball. One thing that killed us last year was the inability to get off the field on 3rd or 4th down when it mattered. I think being one play away can be a year one problem most of the time and it comes with the growing pains. Conversely, the offense needs to make plays more consistently. We can't have a 21 point quarter and 10 points for the remainder of the game. I believe averaging 38 plus a game shows the definition of a consistent offense. We left so many points on the field last year as well in 2018 that it should for sure be more consistent for 2019.

I looked through all of the games last year, and while NU did have some scoreless quarters, I don't know if I would say NU's offense was mostly bust. I thought I saw stats where NU had the most amount of yards for each point they scored. NU would move the ball a lot, but then would bog down due to a penalty or turnover. That tells me that NU wasn't "busting" or going 3 and out a lot. The D needs to help the offense by creating short fields with turnovers. That didn't happen nearly enough last year. I am not as down on the D as some people on this board are, but they have a lot more room to improve than the offense.
