  1. krc1995 is right on this issue. HIPAA governs disclosure of health related information.
  2. A schedule consisting of some of the below teams would be the likely route: NDSU BYU SMU Cincinnati Navy Kansas K-State OU Baylor Mizzou
  3. Also interesting no comment aside from the initial joint comment has been made from DONU. Multiple other Ads and coaches have given interviews. It seems we are truly working behind the scenes to figure out potential options or avenues to play before making further comment.
  4. How does having a season affect any of this?? Canceling/postponing the season does nothing to guarantee players won't contract or die from the virus. It boils down to what is best for the student-athletes. If you truly believe players are safer not playing, then I get it. We just disagree. I think players are safer with the stricter protocols, testing, and unified goal of a season in place to continue to engage in safer practices. But to resort to an emotional argument/position reveals the true weakness of your position.
  5. I think you are missing the point. I'm not saying players are "viginic" but they do curb their extra-curricular activities during the season. Any person that either played college sports or was friends with college athletes knows this. Yes, parties still occur during the season but on teams with a unified purpose they are much much less frequent. However, those activities are not going to be curbed now with no season. I genuinely disagree with the premise that student-athletes are safer not playing than they would be playing. The strict rules and structure that have been implemented and would have been implemented going forward created the safest environment for those players. With no season, coaches and medical staff have even less control over players and their lecturing carries less weight with no season.
  6. The difference is based on the premise that student-athletes participating in a fall sport will curb extra-curricular activities to limit exposure to the illness than they would have otherwise engaged in with no season. Similarly, cancelling fall sports is not going to prevent student-athletes from lifting, spotting, running, eating, training, and etc. from occurring - they are still going to do all those things but in a less safe environment. Put simply, student-athletes are going to engage in more dangerous activities without the structure, incentive of a season, and rules implemented by the team (for fear of letting down their brothers and canceling a season). By canceling the season you are actually putting those student-athletes more at risk.
  7. So you agree that whether or not there is a season players can still contract the virus and by cancelling the season it will not mitigate the chances of contracting?
  8. I get the concept; however, if you are going to allow workouts, meetings, and team activities you are just as "liable" as if there is a season and travel. Similarly, liability for the University doesn't go away if you are going to continue to conduct in person classes or have students on campus.
  9. Student-athlete travel isn't going to be confined or stop just because there is no fall season. Instead, many student-athletes will likely visit friends at other campuses during this break. Similarly, many student-athletes will travel home, go to bars, go to parties, and engage in 'spreading' activities they would have otherwise avoided or not participated in if a fall season was in place. Canceling football isn't going to prevent or mitigate the spread of this illness.
  10. Yeah - but a mass outbreak isn't going to be started or caused by playing football. It will be related to players catching while doing non-football related activities, so I think it will be a bit misleading or dishonest to say football is causing an outbreak. Also, testing of players twice a week (or at all) will likely stop and not resume until January so an accurate comparison is unlikely.
  11. What players will we lose to transfer portal? Have to think Jaimes is a possibility to boost draft stock.
  12. "Iowa canceled its 11 a.m. practice and then Purdue canceled a scheduled media availability with its team. Elsewhere in college football, Oklahoma State canceled a scheduled press conference with its coach and several players. Rumors swirled and the college football season appeared to be hanging by a thread. ... 'I have a group of players that I love—every single one of them—and I ask them to fight for us all the time, to fight on the football field all the time, and I think at some time the head coach’s responsibility is to fight for what they want too,' he said as part of an opening statement that lasted nearly 10 minutes. ... But Frost (and presumably Day) holds the political capital to be able to make such … what frankly seemed like promises … because his players are in his corner. " https://hailvarsity.com/s/9908/huskers-aware-of-virus-concerns-stress-comfort-and-desire-to-play At least this should bode well for recruiting and selling the image that Frost will go to bat for you as a player when other coaches/programs shy away from leading the charge. It would have been very easy for Frost to not do the presser yesterday. He showed leadership in doing it and a bit of the bravado that I love.
  13. So basically join the Mountain West with Oklahoma and OK lite? NO thanks.
  14. If we do venture out (or allowed to venture out), how much of a vig will the Big Ten take?
  15. I keep flip-flopping on this. If you ask me this weekend up through 1:00 p.m. today, I say no season. After Frost nailing that press conference and the growing support on social media, I'm back to there will be a season.
  16. Good to hear about Martinez. OLine should be improved this year. Hopefully Manning is who we think he is (Dennis Green for you youngsters). Glad to hear we have someone on our team to "Moss" Bootle as I observed other teams do it to him too much last season.
  17. Very weird... almost as if its scripted for them. 1 or 2 with the same message I get, but to have 10+ players posting the same messaging takes away the good PR this would otherwise have.
  18. 5. Jaimes 4. Mills 3. Britt-Taylor 2. W. Robinson 1. A Mart
  19. I see the schedule breaking down as follows: 4 wins: Rutgers, Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue 2 losses: Ohio State, Penn State 4 toss ups (within spread of 3 pts): Wisc, Iowa, Minnesota, Mich St
  20. While normally I'd be happy opening up against Rutgers, not this year with the current state of their program shutdown due to COVID and the NJ restrictions. Its a crappy draw as this is most likely game that gets cancelled week 1. If it happens, it should be a good tune-up (if we can call any game of ours a tune-up). Also, Wisc's schedule is a joke and they catch another break (in the scheduling dept) this year by avoiding Ohio State and Penn State.
  21. Yes, I get that the JUCO guys are heavily Held guys and I agree Nash was heavily recruited/reeled in by others (including Frost). But I disagree with Tuioti as being abysmal, and it is tough to evaluate when we have 13 scholarship guys on the D line right now due to spots available to be allocated to the Dline. If he swings and misses and doesn't get one of Wilkins, Buckley, Tobin, and Mokofisi then I will be concerned (I get that Tobin appears to be a plan B also).
  22. I would disagree with abysmal but there is room for improvement. With that said I feel pretty good with Robinson, Newsome, Black, and the Polar Bear who are all RS Fresh or Fresh. Also, have to look at roster balance as we have 6 D linemen as Juniors, which most recruits will look at when evaluating/comparing schools. We need a true NT in this class and at least one 4* in the group of D linemen.
  23. No. Where was that in my post? With a 10 game schedule you'd likely play 3 games and then a bye (and one instance of 2 games and a bye). Doing so would equal 3 byes over a stretch where the schedule runs from Sept 5 to Nov 28. Other alternatives exist for more 2 games and a bye if you start week 0 or August 29.
  24. With only 10 games you can space out the bye weeks to account for positive tests and necessary quarantine period to limit the amount of games a player or multiple players (in the case of an outbreak on a team) might miss should they contract COVID-19.
  25. Aren't Fidone and his parents husker fans??
