Before everyone bashes the article, I recommend reading the whole thing. Though I don't agree with all of it, it makes a few very fair points. In particular, I completely agree with his analysis of the reasons the stadium isn't as loud as it may have once been. I also agree with the general point that if (when) there comes a day where Bo's Huskers have a really rough skid or a rough year, or scandal or whatever, Bo's faults will be held against him just like any other coach. I don't agree that this particular incident regarding fan noise will matter: it's just not that big of a deal in the long-term. But we will hear escalating complaints about Bo's short temper, disinterest in feeding the media, etc., when the Huskers lose four in a row or sit at 6-5 or whatever. I'm a huge Bo fan and think he's got us going in the right direction, but the reality is that there will be rough times at some point. I do think that goodwill built up with the press would help him weather those tough times a bit better, and I do think that it will become more necessary for him to rein in his temper when the on-field performance at that particular point in time isn't earning him the benefit of the doubt. Again, I'm super optimistic about Bo, and I do think the on-field performance is infinitely more important than his attitude toward the press and any offhand comment about the fans. In fact, the author of the article says the exact same thing in the opening of the article, not quoted above. The author just claims (and I tend to agree) that these things do matter, to some small extent, when things aren't going so well. That being said, this whole "Bo bashes fans" story in general is completely overblown and ridiculous.

I think you have to split hairs to choose between the Nebraska D and Texas D so far, but the reality is the Blackshirts haven't put together a 60-minute performance on par with what Texas did last week. Both defenses are really, really good. If you've only watched the Husker games, it may seem hard to believe that the Texas secondary is every bit as good as ours, but it really is. It's early, though. We'll know so much more in a few weeks.

Ahh...good point... Yes, I would think so. This is why on most forms, census, etc., the "race" options say "White Non-Hispanic", "Hispanic", etc. Many latinos self-identify as racially white, with latino ethnicity/heritage.... but it's all complicated because it's all pretty artificial. In any case... the dude's pretty white.

Well...... fair point. But some nicknames/players/mascots/etc are so especially worthy of mocking that they draw a disproportionate share. And T-Magic, IMHO, falls in that category. This is not to say that I care at all about who does or does not choose to mock our players. All I'm saying is that if a player on an opposing team chose to go by the name "T-Magic", I'd assume that player was probably somewhat of a tool. But since he's our guy, clearly he's awesome.

While I've enjoyed the various attempts to come up with alternate nickname, it's been clear all along that T-Magic was going to be the name that persisted in the media, among the team, etc. It's the nickname his teammates use. It's the nickname he uses. It's been with him for awhile. It's nearly impossible for the fans to trump those factors by coming up with a clever idea for a new one. I hate the nickname "T-Magic." It's cheesy, sorta effeminate, and so easy to mock. Can you imagine if a K-State quarterback had that nickname? How relentlessly would we mock it? But there's nothing to be done about it. Though, nothing can force me to use it here on HB.com.

Who knows what will happen, but I would think that the NFL labor issues may discourage some players from leaving early. If (or "when", really, since it's going to happen) there's a lockout/strike in the spring, will there even be a draft? With the serious possibility of a canceled or shortened season in 2011, why not stick around in college for another year? Those paychecks and signing bonuses won't be showing up until a labor agreement is reached anyway...

His point was that Green overshadowed Martinez as a QB in the '09 recruiting class, which is completely true. I was tipped off to his meaning by the fact that he wrote: "Martinez was still an obscure "athlete" who had been vastly overshadowed by Cody Green in the 'Huskers' 2009 recruiting class."

As has already been said, please review the material that has already been covered before wandering like a child into the middle of a very sophisticated adult conversation about the sellout streak. Deep stuff herein. I might also recommend brushing up on your Plato. The cave allegory will be useful in understanding how our current sell-out streak is but shadows on the wall of the platonic ideal of a sell-out streak. (In case it's not abundantly clear, I am *very, very serious* about everything I'm saying here.)

Close, but totally wrong. Same play, but Paul fumbles. Washington d-lineman tries to recover but boots it right to Yoshi, who rumbles 52 yards, carrying a few members of the Husky secondary on his back for part of the trip, for one of the greatest fat-guy touchdowns in college football history. Edit: epocSoN beat me to it on the Paul fumble, but I like mine better.

While I'm optimistic about the game and think a solid Husker victory is certainly possible, I do think there's an excess of kool-aid drinking among the Husker fans right now. (We are the state that invented it, after all.) If Nebraska gets out of Washington with a W, even if it's close, we should be satisfied. A road game against a decent Pac-10 team with lots of offensive talent, early in the season... all we need from that is the win. Anything beyond that is gravy.

Well... technically, there is no other solar system. "Solar system" is the proper name for the star system in which the Earth is located. (Solar = The Sun, our particular star). There are other star systems, of course. This is important to clarify, because I wouldn't want to botch the plans for Memorial Stadium relocation. Here's a list of all the times that Nebraska has lost to teams that are not currently part of FBS. Usually, this is because they no longer exist. As far as I can tell, we haven't lost to a team that wasn't fairly "major" at the time of the game since at least the 1890's; those two KC Medics games are suspect. Knapplc, I generally agree with your post but wanted to respond to one thing: Because they're the most factual, fact-checkable thing we have to go on. Someone put their journalistic credibility on the line to write this article, someone else put their word as a coach on the line and someone else put their standing as a player on the line to be quoted in the article. That carries far, far more weight with me than anonymous posts on a message board. Nobody signs their names to these posts, me included. Really? We're going to credit a fluff piece from the local paper that has all the quarterbacks and coaches holding hands and singing kumbaya? Sure, it sounds like everyone's handling this pretty well, and certainly they're doing a good job of putting on their best faces in public. But I hardly think this story rules out any more complicated goings-on. I have no reason to believe any of the particular versions of the events, but I definitely didn't read this story and think, "Ah, so that settles it." Sure, message board rumors are not all that credible. That doesn't mean that press conference quotes are particularly credible, either. Almost all of what's said in sports press conferences is pretty useless for gaining actual insight into what's *really* going on. See for example: every press conference given at the end of a season by a coach rumored to be under consideration for another job. Nope, the story has simply turned to the next, more exciting chapter. At least this part has some actual football to watch.
