  1. My mother in law is an elementary school teacher. A couple of years ago she told me a story of where a kid brought a 'fart noise maker' to school. She took it from him and told him that he could have it back at the end of the day. She had to go do crossing guard type stuff at the end of the day and when she returned to her room the child's mother was in her desk. My mother in law asked her what she was doing and she said that that noise make belongs to 'billy's' father and she needs to give it back. Mother in law asked if she had checked her son's backpack,(M-I-L) had already put it in there. The mother was more upset with the the teacher than the fact her kid brought it to school. I asked her if she reports stuff like this and she said no....it happens all the time.
  2. My sister has a 7 year old that she has never said no to. I'm really not being dramatic. He sleeps in her bed, won't eat dinner, gets a toy every time they go to a store. He can't go to other kid's birthday parties because he can't handle it. Since he was born, she has put him in situations where he won't be disappointed/upset. If that means avoiding situations that kids should learn from, then that is what happens. It's really pretty sick. In the end, the kid has no chance. Eventually he will be eaten alive by the 'real world'. Society does the same thing. The term 'bullying' is the new boogyman. I think 'bullying' and no tolerance is parallel to 'helicopter parenting'. Bullying is not someone being an A-Hole, it is physical or mental abuse. Bullying (People being dicks) doesn't stop when school is over.
  3. Monitoring facebook or text messages is not in itself 'helicopter parenting'. The definition that subscribe to is: Helicopter parents can be identified by their tendency to hover close to their child, ready to come to the rescue at the first sign of difficulty or disappointment.
  4. There is one thing that is common in the thread. If you say anything about personal accountability or capitalism, you are one of the following: A know nothing about economics. A raging right winger. A Fox News DVR freak. All together ignorant. Go back and read some of your responses to items you don't agree with. Some people aren't victims. Some people still believe that they have some control over their destiny. My favorite is the college kids that think they are Ernie Goss.

  8. So what exactly are you talking about? Please explain? Also, if banks stopped lending how exactly would there be no money? An individual, business or organization has to operate in debt?
  9. Government taking over drugs equals lower prices and more/better research..Wow, just wow.
  10. I don't know about work harder, but the dollar doesn't seem to go as far. It is definitely stressful. If you believe this to be the case, then how can we not say that we have a spending problem? Is consideration of inflation really a fair footnote?
  11. I'm just throwing this out there because I really have no data. The chart above says 'using inflation adjusted dollars'. If wages are not increasing at the rate of inflation don't you actually have less money to spend (as an individual taxpayer)?
  12. I think the correct way to address this issue would be a consumption tax. If you spend high amounts of money, then pay taxes on it. Every time something like this, I preach the same thing. We have lost manufacturing jobs in this country. We have been sold out by the crooks on both sides of the aisle. There are no reasonable jobs for a high school individual that is intelligent and wants to work. Furthermore, we are sending people through degree mills to come up to $20K service jobs. I am concerned about how many corporations literately pay no taxes. I would also see them passing it along to the customer if things were to change. I don't see how this would be any different with minimum wage. In the end the middle class pays for it.
  13. For $30 on Ebay, I'd try it....But I will tear anything apart if I can find a video on youtube that will help me get it back together.
  14. Can't speak to both, but Big Fred's in Omaha is hands down my favorite place for Onion Rings.
  15. My kid broke the power hook up on his. Went through Amazon tech group. I was still under warranty. There is a place on 56th and O that repairs smart phones. I bet they would do this too. A little pricey though. or you can try yourself

      That was a doozy!

  17. I heard Dan Patrick say yesterday that Teo was noticably absent in a multiple games during the 2012 season. I believe most of us already knew that. Without people gooing themselves, he has gone from amazing to pretty good.
  18. My wife actually caught this one yesterday.
  19. Appeared to be a combo of drivers getting use to the cars and maybe that the new car isn't there just yet. Watching Dale Jr make the last lap pass indicated to me that passing will soon be back at the super speedways. I think NASCAR will tweak on this cars before Dega so there isn't as much follow the leader. The media will goo their shorts because of how well Danica did. Unfortunately, Daytona doesn't tell you much. Ask Derrick Cope. I would grade the race a C+.
  20. As of 5:35 CST, one person is critical. Eyewitnesses saying a guy took a tire to the head. Not sure if it is the same person.
  21. If it is espn/fox/nascar video, this is a fairly common practice. Fan video...then you would have a story.
  22. Lincoln have a snow removal plan?

The snowplows go back and forth over Cornhusker and O streets 6,000 times even when they're cleared off, ignoring all other streets. That's the main plan.
