  1. A Riley recruit who never made it to campus is now a grad transfer CB...he has the body that T Fish looks for. https://247sports.com/player/elijah-blades-88047/
  2. We ran an offense in the 90s where you only had to recruit like 3 main guys on the whole offense. Everyone else we could get within 250 miles. And to top that off sometimes you got lucky with a great RB from Nebraska like Green. With all the recruiting services it makes it so easy for the top teams to stay on top. Back then there was a lot more film watching, coach calls, travel etc.
  3. Fist game jitters. The Illinois game seems to be a must win game if we want to head into the right direction. In Frost's first season we lost the opener to Colorado who went 5-7 after having a rain out vs Akron. In 19' we played a very average game vs South Bama 35-21 win, followed up by a collapse at Colorado the next week. In 2020 we played a great Ohio St team, started off hot, but ended up losing 52-17. Running back production. The Huskers return less than 100 yards rushing from the RB position. That is a pretty big red flag when you combine that with transfer Markese Stepp being sidelined all spring and summer. The RB room is also very young and inexperienced. We are going to need production to go with AM in the run game to get to a bowl game. Wide Receiver uncertainty. I think we have more talent overall at the position, but like RB we return very little production. Losing Wandale hurts as he had over 3x more yards (461) than the next player in Betts (131). FCS Grad transfer Toure was a big off-season get to go with upperclassmen Martin and Manning. Staying healthy. Last year Adrian Martinez missed some action, and Luke had to come in - would be similar situation if Smothers had to take over in his first true snaps in live action. Starting ILB Will Honas is out for the year, and other LBs in Henrich and Reimer missed some action last season along with transfer Kolarevic who missed games at UNI. The staff was looking to have transfer RB Stepp come in and take the reins but he went down with an injury and might be back by the first game. Can this be a top 50 defense? Nebraska has only been a top 50 defense twice in the past decade (2011, 2016). When Frost took over they were coming off being the 116th ranked defense in 2017 which they improved to 88th, 66th, 64th. Given the issues we may still see on offense we need this unit to take that next step with the experience we return.
  4. Coach leaves = you leave with no penalty Otherwise athlete sits one season.... Problem solved.
  5. They lost some to the portal due to the coaching change but wild that Illinois has added 9 players already from the portal.
  6. Is what it is but I think with a fourth year Maurice Washington this offense could be where we wanted it to be.
  7. He didn't prove me wrong...
  8. Why was Otte running with the 1's? He was the only non-stater I noticed that did the first few series with the red team.
  9. At the end of the day he has 5 rushing attempts in 2 years. I'm not sure he's better than Scott, Morrison, or Ervin...even Yant is gonna see some carries. He has never been healthy even in HS. I see him moving to a smaller D1 school closer to home. I hope he proves me wrong.
  10. More than likely end up in the portal: Demariyon Houston Rahmir Johnson Ronald Thompkins David Alston -------------------------------------------------- I think the following stay but wouldn't be surprised either. Tate Wildeman, Jackson Hannah, Chris Walker, Jordon Riley
  11. 1. Toure was a much needed WR transfer pick up 2. AM looks a little quicker 3. Manning has some talent. Work on mind and hands 4. Morrison, Yant and Ervin are good young backs 5. Oliver Martin has great hands. Should have a good year 6. Scott has good balance as a runner. Reliable 7. Back up QBs need some work, but not bad for a spring game
  12. We got an official visit from Williams - not sure if mutual interest still but he's a damn good WR. Ohio St is just loaded with talent at that position. https://247sports.com/Player/Jameson-Williams-46040514/
  13. Sucks to lose depth but I truly feel Reimer/Kolarevric/Henrich are more than good enough to not notice.
  14. Honas possibly out with ACL injury as well...
  15. Agree on both and we have no excuses to not at least get to a bowl game even with the tough schedule.
  16. RB Room - zero upperclassmen and 38 total carries at Nebraska....that's concerning when you mix in that 4/6 always are injured on top of that.
  17. Illinois got back 10/15 players who could have graduated or went pro. Veteran QB and 4 OL starters back. Did lose their stud WR. Defense they got their DL and most secondary. Lost Hansen who was a solid LB. Overall they should be a decent football team.
  18. Haarberg is taller, stronger, and has a stronger arm. Still a good enough runner when needs to be. I always like taller QBs...with that said I think Smothers runs the offense pretty well. Great runner and gets the ball out when it needs to be. Not the best mechanics but sometimes AM waits too long and worries about throwing a pretty ball. Just get that damn thing out on time. Very overlooked QB asset. Milton was great at that with Frost at UCF
  19. Excludes true freshmen 5. Marquis Black - I'm not sure how much he will see in the rotation this year, but the kid is going to be tough to move on the defensive line when he gets called upon. Overall, the future of the defensive line is sitting in a very good place with Nash, Black, Buckley, Robinson, and Rogers. 4. Javin Wright - He was going to see PT last year before going down with an injury. Has looked solid in practice thus far in the spring. Has great length and moves well for his size. He has also added some weight so he is for sure a hybrid that could play Safety, Nickel or OLB. 3. Oliver Martin - I think Martin has the potential to lead the team in receptions this year. Decent size to go with athleticism that only a few others on the team can match. Nebraska is his third stop during his college career - I think with a full year here now he is ready to break through. 2. Chris Kolaveric - I was able to see two of his games when he was at UNI and the kid can really play. He lacks a little height and length but reminds me a lot of Luke Reimer. The biggest strength I saw was his ability to cover ground sideline to sideline. It's going to be tough to keep him off the field. 1. Pheldarius Payne - The former Juco showed flashes last year against Penn St and Rutgers. He has a high motor and can get behind the LOS to makes some key stops and apply some pressure on the QB. Him and Nelson show similar attributes and both will be solid to go along with JoJo and Tannor.
  20. He burned what to the ground? We just came off of losing to Iowa 56-14. Gave up 56 to Penn St the week before that. Gave up 54 to Minnesota the week prior to that....
  21. Your job isn't on the line - Frost and Moos's are....wins and losses matter. Frost has 12 games within one possession that he has lost at Nebraska and you flame him for still losing. Being tough doesn't matter. Iowa and Wisconsin have gotten an extra 1-2 wins a year for scheduling easy teams.
