  1. Only thing Riley is concerned about the Friday night game is missing his traditional Friday morning breakfast with Dee.
  2. Make sure Wisconsin drops a game-clinching interception in the last minute of the game, and the referee ignores our WR running 2 yards out of bounds to avoid the CB and then come back in bounds to catch the game-winning pass.
  3. It's tough to run deep routes when the o-line can't protect the passer. However, I don't think our WR's our super burners. Lindsey is probably the fastest, but he's limited in what he knows about the offense. I would think it would be worth trying a couple deep passes to Lindsey every game though. At least it would keep the defense honest a bit. They have no concern about NU going deep right now.
  4. If Riley is looking for a win to save his job, this is an ideal time for the Huskers to do it.
  5. With the rampant rumors about Riley's job security abound, there are natural questions about who would make a viable candidate for the next head coach. There is a 3-page thread on Scott Frost on here, so I don't think the article showing Frost's qualifications is poor timing. If there were any readers with questions about Frost's experience, Barfknect lays out Frost's resume and qualifications. I also have questions about whether Frost would ever want to coach at NU. He could have a great life staying at UCF for a while or maybe going to a bigger program. Worst case scenario, he's not a head coach by the age of 50, and he bounces around for the next 10 years as an offensive coordinator/position coach, and retires at age 60 with his NFL pension kicking in.
  6. Mike'l Severe tweeted these stats this morning. Lee's passer rating in his college career. 2014-RS Freshman-107.6 2015-RS Sophomore-109.8 2017-5th year Junior-107.2 Lee is who he is. It doesn't matter about the talent around him, he's a very average to poor QB. He's shown it his entire college career.
  7. Mike'l Severe is a Louisiana native, and probably has a lot of connections down there still. He said on Big Red Wrap-up last week that in high school, Tulane, and now Nebraska, Lee is a 50% passer and throws a lot of interceptions. He throws a good ball, but real football isn't played in a t-shirt and shorts. Lee gets scouts on his side with his size and his strong arm, but in 3 years as a starting QB he has shown who he is, a statue QB with a strong arm who makes bad decisions.
  8. Dabo won the division in the ACC his first full year, won the conference his 3rd full year, and the division again in his 4th full year. I don't know how that's saying Dabo "took time". He was winning pretty well in his first few years. If Frost came in and won two or three division titles and a conference championship in his first 4 years, I would be happy with that.
  9. The crowd is going to go nuts for big plays. Unfortunately the big plays for NU have been few and far-between so far this season. DPE's return was awesome to see!!
  10. Great point about Lee going against Banker's D last year while he ran the scout team. Uncle Rico would look like an All-American going up against that D. I think Hayseed was commenting about Keller starting for 9 games over Ganz in 2007. It took a broken collarbone by Keller for Ganz to get the start that year.
  11. I think the Gorilla WR coach wants to play a lot of WR's because he can show recruits "Hey, you are going to get just as many snaps as the #1 and #2 WR's, and we have a bunch of walk-ons playing right now." It's funny because it's basically the opposite philosophy of all the other offensive assistant coaches, who prefer to play the top guys only.
  12. I see guys like Baker Mayfield and Trace McSorley do great things in college, and I wonder if our coaches would even take at guys like that because they are smaller and aren't the NFL prototype. I understand that Mayfield wasn't recruited much out of high school, as he walked on at Texas Tech out of high school. However, in the college game, you see so many guys succeed because of their intangibles, rather than how they look throwing a ball in shorts and a t-shirt.
  13. I think the coaches are afraid to sit down Lee (even for a series or two) because they don't want him to lose his confidence and they think of him as a team leader (he is a captain this year). However, if there are more pick sixes and more turnovers deep in your own territory, the defense is going to start getting pissed at Lee, and that's not going to help things.
  14. You could be right and there could be a transition period. Or Frost could bring in a JUCO QB who would be able to compete with the existing QB's that NU has on the roster.
  15. I think my comments were more targeted towards Undone, rather than you. I don't have an issue with your post, I was just following up on yours. A lot of coaches are going to have similar characteristics, but the best ones are able to distinguish themselves from the average ones.
  16. Nobody has said that Riley doesn't have strengths. I am not a fan of Riley, but I think he does have some positive characteristics of being a head coach, as listed above. However, has a lot of negatives that I can think of, and has shown in his career.
  17. I think it's easier to switch to a Power Spread game from a Pro-Style Offense, rather than vice versa. Yeah, Frost would probably like a more mobile QB to do everything he likes to do, but I think Frost would be able to lean on the RB run game more. I definitely don't want NU to stick with the offense that Langsdorf and Riley like to use. I just don't think it's a viable, long-term offense that leads to success in the college game.
  18. But where are you going to find that from a coach who's willing to leave their school? If a coach is already doing that at their school, they are going to stay there. Give me some examples of coaches who you think would be actually willing to leave.
  19. The first interception was way worse and something that people killed Martinez and Armstrong for doing, throwing off their back foot, lofting the ball into coverage, and hoping the WR could make a play. Luckily the D held Rutgers to only a FG following that pick.
  20. Wow, I just saw the Tanner Lee pick 6 highlight (lowlight). That was as bad as play as I have ever seen a QB make. Even if Langsdorf said it was his fault after the game, Lee looks like he has no idea how to read coverages. He threw that in the middle of 3 Rutgers defenders.
  21. The telling games will be Wisconsin and Ohio State. Will Langsdorf stick with the run game if it's not working early in the game? Will Langsdorf go pass-happy after NU falls behind by 7-14 points early in the game. My issue with Langsdorf is that he generally wants the run game to be "just successful enough" to open up his passing game. He wants to win games with the pass.
  22. But why are all the boxes check "required"? It's nearly impossible to find the coach that checks all the boxes. Frost's experience compares very close to guys like Franklin, Tom Hermann, and PJ Fleck who have all been hired recently. Honestly, I would rather go with the young, energetic coach who is going to bring passion to the team.
  23. People point out that Frost doesn't have the experience to be a head coach at the Big Ten level. Looking at James Franklin's experience, Frost has much of the same resume that Franklin did before he was hired at Penn State. Both had years of assistant coaching experience, working through smaller colleges into bigger ones. Both offensive coordinators for 2-3 years before getting a head coaching job. Franklin was a Vandy for 3 years. In terms of success, Central Florida is very similar to Vandy. The only thing Vandy has over UCF is conference affiliation. But, over the past 20 years, UCF has been a more successful program than Vandy.
  24. I am with you. If you are going for the home run hire, there are always going to be risks and gambles. The hire of Riley was anything but a gamble. It was a decision to hire the one coach in college football who was the complete antithesis of Bo Pelini. If Frost is a home run, he could set NU up to compete for championships for the next 10-15-20 years. Or he could also flame out within 5 years. Those are the risks of hiring a coach. I also think that people on here want "all the boxes checked". There aren't many coaches out there that do that.
