  1. Interesting that Colorado moved the state championship games from Empower Field (Mile High) to CSU’s stadium up in Fort Collins. I really never heard why, although it doesn’t impact me at all.
  2. I forgot about the poor punting in the Colorado game. I think I have tried to block out my memory of that game, or the pre-game beers at the tailgate didn’t allow me to remember much of that game.
  3. Oh yeah, statistics can be good indicators of things, but they can also include outliers as a result of dumb luck. I know that the punting stats may not be great right now, but those can also be impacted by trying to pin an opponent inside the 20, or punting more often into the wind or things like that. It seems like when I have listened to Severe Reaction on Sundays, Severe has said good things about Buscini and his punting so far this year.
  4. Unfortunately, 5 yards of field position spread across 6-8 punts over the course of a game is 30-40 yards I don’t have the exact numbers, but I would expect if a team has 30-40 fewer yards per game to gain, that would result in more points for that team. I would be curious on the average field position for NU’s opponent, but that could be skewed by turnovers. So, maybe the better figure would be average starting field position after a kickoff or punt.
  5. Maybe NU can request the bowl game is played as 8-man football. That actually may be better for NU, considering our weak o-line.
  6. I love the internet sometimes.
  7. Coleman is such an amazing athlete, he should be able to throw a 40 yard bomb to himself!
  8. You seem like a good guy, but you’re exhausting.
  9. Mitch Sherman was on 1620 the zone this afternoon, and was asked about the young WR’s needing to step up. Sherman mentioned that in high school, Coleman would get frustrated when faced with press coverage and teams playing physically on him. Coleman would then check out mentally for long periods of the game. That type of play isn’t going to get a guy immediate snaps in high level college football, especially if he shows that frustration in practices. 18-19 year old freshmen aren’t always ready to compete with 21-22 year old college guys playing across from them. Sherman goes onto say that Coleman is showing growth and great signs of becoming the WR we want him to be. However, Coleman was far from a guy who could come in and be a plug and play WR the first week of the season.
  10. The turnovers in the Huskers.com box score only show 1 fumble lost. So who knows exactly what is the correct scoring for the misplayed kickoff. I don’t think Illinois touched the kickoff before Nebraska recovered it, so IMO it shouldn’t be a fumble, but so I agree it’s pretty much a turnover.
  11. I know the turnover margin against Illinois was technically -1, but the misplayed kickoff in the 2nd quarter was like a turnover, even though statistically it’s not considered a turnover. Due to that, the turnover margin was more like even. Plus, the Blackshirts stopped 3 Illinois fourth down attempts. One at the goal line, one a midfield, and one late in the game in the red zone.
  12. The jet-sweep “pop passes” are becoming more common, and can definitely artificially inflate a QB’s completion percentage. If 1 out of every 20 attempts by a QB is a glorified hand-off, that results in a 5% higher completion percentage over the course of a season.
  13. And Coleman didn’t play against Michigan because of a concussion suffered in practice that week, but the coaches need to be criticized for not playing him.
  14. How are you evaluating the position coaches? I understand that the “easy” way for people to think they can do it is production of that position group. I would argue that no layperson can evaluate the effectiveness of a position coach.
  15. You obviously aren’t going to accept that Coleman wasn’t ready to play a lot of snaps early in the season despite reasons that people have given. You played sports, and while I am sure you were a great athlete, don’t you agree that sometimes the best athletes aren’t ready to contribute right away? We aren’t pushing back on Coleman’s playing time, but we see reasons why he wasn’t coming in, being an automatic starter, and not getting many snaps until Illinois. I’m excited for Coleman to play more. It’s a great opportunity for him. Plus, this playing time will help him be a bigger contributor the next 2-3 seasons. I hope he plays great as a Husker, goes to the NFL as a draft pick, and makes great money.
  16. I understand your frustration, but don’t you think that guys like ICG, Kemp, and Bullock were better than Coleman coming into the season based on their experience, knowledge of the playbook, route running, blocking, and other things that WR’s need to do besides just being tall and a great athlete? It was completely unrealistic expectations for Coleman to come in and be a huge contributor early in the season. He was VERY RAW in high school. He stayed in high school for his spring semester (that’s not a criticism, but it’s going to put him behind others on the roster). And he has had injuries and other things keeping him from being at practice full time. The good news for you and Coleman is that everyone else is now injured so Coleman will get a lot of snaps. It was great to see him make a catch, seem to block well, and be open on other plays. Let’s see how he can do the rest of the season.
  17. He also might want to see who can actually come back for another season.
  18. Nice not-so thinly veiled jab at McGuire’s age.
  19. Those saying we need a new WR coach are only saying it because they didn’t like the McGuire hire in the first place. McGuire hasn’t done anything to deserve to be fired.
  20. You want to look at OU this year, but they were not good last year. I am not sure why people want to just automatically throw out position coaches as the reason why NU is losing. I want position coaches who are on the same page as the head coach and who can deliver the top-down message from the head coach.
  21. Everyone thought Sonny Dykes was a genius by making the National Championship game last year. Dykes walked into a roster loaded with talent and nearly every close game went their way last year. Well, his team is now 3-3 after a loss to a bad/average Iowa State game last night. A lot of people said Dave Aranda was better than Matt Rhule because he was able to take Baylor to the next step and win a Big 12 championship which Rhule couldn’t do. Well, they look like absolute dog crap right now after Rhule’s players have graduated out of the program. I know it’s college football, and fans are going to compare to what other schools are doing. We are so immersed into what happens at NU, but don’t have a great idea what other programs’ situations are. Yes, some first year head coaches have immediate success. Does that always mean it will be lasting success? Rhule and Satterfield whiffed badly on their QB choice for this year. It will probably end up costing NU 1-2 wins this year. However, it’s a process to build a program, not just one season.
  22. In order to get the number of touches for all of NU’s skill players to make everyone happy, while also having the right mix of run-pass ratio, NU would basically need to run 100 plays a game on offense.
  23. I don’t think the coaches have handled him poorly. Coleman struggled with some things, and that’s why he wasn’t seeing the field for a lot of snaps. Coaches have to play the guys who they think can do best in the games. For most coaches, that’s showing it in practice first. However, the coaches seemed to be trying to find ways to get him on the field. Coleman is now going to play a lot, and that’s exciting. He has a lot of talent. He just needs to match that talent with everything else required to be successful.
  24. NU had a very poor 4th quarter. Why do fans think that NU will play that same way the rest of the season? Isn’t it just as possible (or probable) that NU plays like it did for the for 3 quarters? The negativity in this fan base is the worst.
