  1. Honestly, I think it's the NFL type mentality. The starters, especially at QB, are going to get the vast majority of snaps during practice. I am sure Gebbia is running scout team right now. I would like to see what POB could do, but Riley is going to stick with Lee, especially with a short week vs. Illinois, then the 2 toughest defenses NU will face all season following that. If Lee is still struggling after those games, there could be a switch in the bye week after Ohio State.
  2. I think with a lot of offensive coordinators out there, they like to show how well they can design and draw up plays, and they like to try and use those "cool plays". But, they don't think about all the factors it will take into being successful on that play. For example, on NU's 3rd and 6 from around the Rutgers 40 with about 1:00 left in the first half, Langsdorf called a pretty cool play, with a receiver streaking down the sidelines, and Lee making a good pass. It was a "good play" until the walk-on WR (Conor Young maybe) dropped the pass. It was a higher risk play. Failed 3rd down, and NU doesn't get any points before halftime. In that situation the better play would have been 3 or 4 receivers all running 8-yard hook routes, with Lee making an easy pass to the open guy and NU getting the first down. NU had all 3 timeouts left, so the clock wouldn't be an issue (if you can forget about the Mike Riley school of clock management).
  3. Who the heck played Gamebreaker? It couldn't come anywhere near the EA Sports NCAA football franchise.
  4. Nobody has put together an actual montage of all the interceptions, but you can find full game replays of each game on YouTube. You can take the time to find those and review for yourself. IMO, his interceptions have been a combination of poor decisions, poor mechanics/footwork, bad O-line play, nice plays by the defender, and unlucky bounces. All of the INT's aren't Lee's fault, but I do put a lot of blame on the offensive staff. They aren't putting the players in the best position to succeed.
  5. I posted this in another AD search thread. The only reason guys like Trev Alberts or Ed Stewart are mentioned by people as viable candidates by the average joe from Nebraska are because nobody really knows other AD's from across the country. Average Joe from Ashland knows the names of Alberts, Stewart, and Rimington, so they are going to be mentioned. Compared to the AD's at TCU, Colorado State, Iowa State, and other actual AD's who are being mentioned by media who have done actual research, the "Nebraska guys"' don't have as good as resumes. I don't think you need to necessarily need to have a "Nebraska guy", especially at AD. But, you need to a man or woman who understands the culture of Nebraska and know what's important to the alumni, students, and fans and would be able to assimilate themselves in that culture. Eichorst didn't assimilate himself very well within the Athletic Department. Pedersen was a giant a-hole who nobody liked. Osborne was well liked by everyone involved at the University, but he made hires that have turned out to be "not great". It's hard to get that perfect AD, but I agree that it shouldn't be limited to a "Nebraska guy".
  6. I also heard "it will be great to have a good backup QB who can push the starter and make the starter better and be a competent QB when needed." POB may be good, but we will never know because Lee gets all the snaps, no matter how crappy he plays. Does he have compromising pictures of Riley and Langsdorf or something? Morgan was injured and didn't play.
  7. You could cut the legs off the Berringer statue and it would be more mobile than Lee. Lee could also break both legs and still be the starting QB.
  8. This team still needs to improve a lot to be competitive in the last 7 games of the season. The team won today, but that was the worst team in the conference.
  9. Ozigbo has had his best games against bad d-lines, and his YPC is still pretty average. I'm glad he played well today, and he enabled NU to run the ball way more than we passed it today. At least for 1 game Riley and Langsdorf realized running the ball more than passing is good.
  10. And our coach prefers to run an antiquated pro-style offense that is lucky to break 20 points in a game.
  11. In a 90 degree day, I might be tempted to leave when the game is in hand, too.
  12. Good teachers? Langsdorf is supposed to be a great QB coach but we have had crappy QB play for 2 1/3 years. The o-line completely sucks in most games. The WR play is inconsistent. I don't see much teaching from my POV.
  13. Not sure what Langsdorf has done to have anyone "like him". You are one loyal cat.
  14. It will be interesting to see how he's used the rest of the season. He has shown he deserves more touches, especially if Bryant is going to have continuing knee issues.
  15. I will admit I was wrong on Ozigbo. He does have a place in the offense with inside zone run plays. The line played much better today. I think that's more due to Rutgers though. Could have used that physcial run game last week though.
  16. Lee also set up 3 of Rutgers' points with a god-awful throw off his back foot and into double coverage.
  17. Hate to say it but Lee isn't getting benched this week either. It's a short week this week, followed by the 2 toughest defenses NU will face this year.
  18. Honestly, if you would take away his name and just listed Frost's accomplishments in his playing and coaching career, I think he has a great resume for a prospective coaching hire. I think people try to check too many boxes when saying "I think they should go after this coach...". Simply put, the best coaches tend to have been hired with some risks. You just got to be willing to go for the home run hire.
  19. I'm with you 100% on this. The administrators can't keep poor coaches and AD's around based on how it will impact 1 recruiting class. I don't even know where Riley has greatly improved the recruiting, other than a couple of skill positions. Even with "better players" recruited, he's either not playing them or they aren't playing well, which again falls on the coaching staff. I would count on the next coach being able to better develop, teach, and inspire the kids to play better on Saturdays, because that's not happening right now under Riley.
  20. Athletic departments are providing entertainment to students and alumni, and they are about wins and losses. When athletic departments do poorly, enrollment suffers. Bounds and Green didn't want to see NU get harmed further by a disfunctional athletic department. It wasn't a reflexive decision. They have been thinking about it for months.
  21. The 10 associate AD's was odd. I don't care too much about how much they are paid. NU athletic department oozes $.
  22. I actually find Barfknecht's and Chatelain's objectivism quite refreshing. Lee doesn't cover NU, he covers the entire Big Ten, so he analyzes NU compared to the rest of the conference, which right now isn't very good. Dirk is a columnist. He is paid to write his opinions and tell stories. Their approach is pretty much the same, regardless of the coach.
  23. Before the Eichorst announcement, I figured Lincoln would be kind of dead and not much enthusiasm. After today, I think people will have renewed energy and interest in the program and will be curious how the team responds.
  24. Agree that Riley shouldn't leave money on the table, he has a signed contract. Just a hunch that he will be more willing to leave now.
  25. Based on today's talk with the media, I'm going to question whether Riley has the fight and the will to continue to coach after this year. Seems really sad and despondent about Eichorst's firing. I'm thinking he's gonna retire/resign after this season.
