  1. IDK, Bud and Coors still have yuge market share. That tells me there is plenty of room left for good beer. Probably wouldn't get rich but I sure think you could make a living at it in the right area. I too have thought about this. May still one day do a combination microbrewery and barbeque place. Can't think of anything better than smoking meat and making beer for a living. Problem is, the business end of it doesn't seem too appealing but brew master or pitmaster....hell yeah. Out here in Idaho in and around Boise there is probably 8-10 microbrewerys. They make some pretty good beer, but I not sure there is room for any more in the area. Nebraska I think could still handle a few microbrewerys. I just volunteered at the Great American Beer Festival this past weekend in Denver. I am sure the brewers there represent a fractional % of the medium and small brewers across America. There are microbreweries popping up every where across the Denver area. I can think of at least 5 that are within 10 minutes of my work office, and there are probably more than that.
  2. The best thing that happened for Barry Switzer in 1985 was when Troy Aikman broke his leg, and OU had to turn to Holieway. That dude was awesome, and helped Switzer get a final National Championship in '85.
  3. I just don't get how people don't think of Gdowski as a great running QB during his time at NU. Yes, he was a very good and efficient passer, but he was an awesome runner as a QB. A guy can be both.
  4. Is this in order? Gerry Gdowski was a fine QB. If we're limiting it to *running* quarterbacks like the title says, he's not remotely close to Turner Gill. Gill is top five, no question. Gdowski is more in the mold of David Humm and Zac Taylor. He was a Tom Osborne QB so he had to run, but that was not his forte, and he was not better at it than Gill, Steve Taylor or Tommy Armstrong. I call BS on saying Gdowski was in the mold of Humm or Zac Taylor. The dude ran for 925 yards as senior with a 7.9 YPC. He won numerous state track medals as a high schooler and was plenty fast at Nebraska. Taylor Martinez left school with all kinds of passing records. Are you going to tell me he was a passing quarterback? Martinez and Gdowski passing and running stats, respectively, reflect the style of offense they were in, not their strengths as quarterbacks. Gdowski was more a passer than a runner, more Humm than Crouch. Gdowski wasn't a drop back passer like Humm and Zac Taylor. Osborne didn't change his offense on iota when Steve Taylor graduated and Gdowski started. He still used a quite a bit of option and QB runs with Gdowski. He set the Nu record (at the time) for running yards for a QB, and averaged nearly 10 carries per game as a senior. That is a running QB, especially for that era.
  5. You do know that true and redshirt freshman have played across this land and some have done quite well against us.Yes, plenty of true and RS Freshman have succeeded in college football. However, from what I have heard, POB is nowhere near ready to run the offense and NU would probably be in deep S if he were the QB this year. I think NU would be in deep S if Fyfe had to start or play significant time in a close game. Armstrong's health is key to the success of this season.
  6. That's like saying we don't know if Secretariat was a good race horse because he ran only 21 races. Most who watched Gdowski run and pass would say it was a mistake to have had Taylor starting in front of him. As I said before, the KFAB announcers even said it on the air during his Senior year. I don't know if Gdowski should have started over Taylor, and I was around at the time. Taylor was an All-Conference QB, so most didn't think he should be a backup. I think the big mistake Osborne made with Gerry was never redshirting him, and having him available to start only 1 season. Not many thought Gdowski was going to be as good as he was his 1 year as a starter.
  7. Based on the fact that NU is one of a low number of undefeated teams remaining, the current ranking is about right. Will NU end up the season in the top 10, probably not. But, if NU goes 10-2 it will probably end the season in the 10-15 range.
  8. POB was playing catch with Fyfe, so I wouldn't read anything into that. I don't think Fyfe is anything special, but I don't think POB would be any better than Fyfe for this year.
  9. If you are looking at pure runners at the QB position, it has to start with Eric Crouch. He was the best hands down. Martinez is a close 2nd. Frazier was a great player and great leader, but he wasn't asked to run much and didn't put up huge stats, although he could be great on the option when it was needed.

  11. Getting back to the topic of the thread, it would take drastic injuries for POB to play this year. I fully expect Lee to win the job next year and be the starter for 2 years.
  12. Darlington moved to WR to hopefully get some time on the field down the road. I didn't expect him to play much this year, but he could get into the rotation in 2017 and 2018. NU loses a lot of depth at receiver after this year.
  13. While the point you're trying to make is not lost on me at all, and I actually do care about the issue Michael is putting out there, I just want to say that I've been so adamant about the right to protest simply to hopefully shut up the people claiming that "they shouldn't be allowed to do this." Because that's just, like, really stupid to believe. Between the "football players should just focus on football" crowd, 'Murica derpers, and flat-out racists, it's been hard to focus on the real issue being brought up by MRI and others. Right now, those individuals have done a great job of bringing awareness to the issue, the next step is to discuss the issue further and see what solutions can be agreed upon.
  14. Is every game going to be considered a letdown game until NU meets Wisconsin? Yes I'm actually very pleased with the way that Riley and the staff have approached these games against lesser opponents. They tried to get cute too often last year, instead of utilizing the better athletes and deeper roster to their advantage. I expect NU to be able to do the very same thing the next 3 games and go into Madison at 7-0.

  16. On ESPN8, the Ocho!!! Pepper Brooks is providing color commentary on the game.
  17. The TV partners will most likely announce their TV schedule on Oct. 9 or 10. However, I think they still have the ability to use a 6-day a couple times a season. Looking at the Big Ten schedule for Oct. 22nd, I would expect an 11 AM kickoff.
  18. Illinois is a very bad team, and NU should wipe the stadium turf with them. Last year's game was a terrible, terrible loss. The Armstrong pass with less than a minute left in the game was the cap to a terribly called game and gameplan by Langsdorf. It was ludicrous for Armstrong to pass the ball over 40 times in a cold, windy, and rainy afternoon.
  19. I think it's a good move to sit him out this week. Give Alonzo two full weeks to get healthy for the last 7 games of the season.
  20. Have to agree with this. Again, not trying to take anything away from our S/C guys but we've had three of our opponents totally out-manned and are significantly more physical than the fourth. It would be quite worrisome if this wasn't the case. Now, if this continues to be the case through the second half of the season, then we'll be on to something. It depends on the opponent. Teams like Illinois, Purdue, and Maryland, NU should be able to physically dominate and win. Yeah, I agree. I was still considering Illinois and Purdue as the "first half." I was directing my comment towards Wisconsin, Ohio State, Iowa and - to some extent - Minnesota. I read it as "rest of schedule" but that was my misunderstanding. We are on the same page. It's good to wear down opponents, but for half of Nu's schedule, I would expect it to be that way. That's through a combination of recruiting, roster depth, and S&C.

  22. Glad he was able to catch one final practice last week.
  23. But most of us love the 80's! Wait ... Apollo Creed was a black man. What are you trying to say here? Why did you put the gif of them hugging? What significance does the ocean have? Was Apollo Creed desecrating the flag or paying tribute to it with the boxing shorts he wore? Does your opinion change when Rocky Balboa wore the same shorts?
  24. As far as keeping politics out of football, Rose-Ivey is taking advantage of being a football player with a public image and speak out on a topic he has strong beliefs in. He is probably going to get a lot more people listening to him compared to the average 22 year old black guy with those same beliefs.
  25. It absolutely does, you just aren't willing to admit it. Certain things are inappropriate in certain venues. If Rose-Ivey isn't going to be considerate of those around him, it would be duplicitous to demand it from others. I think Rose-Ivey was considerate of the 69 other players and coaching staff when he spoke to them about the issue before the game. I don't think MRI is demanding respect from others, I think he was disappointed in the reaction he got from some fans. He is being a little naive in expecting 100% positive reactions, but it still can be disappointing to get death threats from people who thought cheered for you during football games.
