  1. The run defense is skewed by Oregon's huge rushing stats on Saturday, which were boosted by a few big plays. I thought the D played well overall on Saturday. Two of the long TD's on Saturday had bad alignment by the LB's, and then Banderas missed a tackle on the 4th and 2 run that the RB went 40 yards for a TD. The pass defense is a lot better than it was last year, and the secondary is playing confidently. The run D should improve over the next few weeks against weaker Big Ten opponents. Agree. I think Oregon will negatively effect any teams run D stats. They were quick off the edge. As Banker and the players said, you miss and its 6 points. I do not think we will see speed like that for the rest of the year. I also think that it goes back to last years stats. Our run D was much "better" as our pass D was a joke. Why run when you can pass. I'd settle for us being better than average against both run and pass. This way teams will have to work to move the ball. No easy yards through the air or on the ground. If you watch, our D end on the three man line kept biting inside on fakes giving up the edge to Oregon. Doesn't the Oregon offense read the defensive end? So isn't that pretty usual? Yes, the defensive end is usually unblocked and read in Oregon's schemes. There is a good chance that Parella instructed the DE's to crash down on the RB to force the QB to keep and have the remaining defenders flow to the QB. There is nothing the DE can do. He has to choose either the RB or the QB. Sometimes he can guess, but that can screw up the remaining assignments of the D.
  2. Adidas has Miami going back to their traditional look from the 1980s and 90s, before they were Nike-fied in the late 90s. https://www.flickr.com/photos/65516705@N00/sets/72157674122058985 These "new" Miami uni's are a pretty classy look.
  3. While I think NU should not wear white pants on a regular basis for the road uniforms, I don't mind the all-white look as an alternate uniform. These are a special, one-time uni, so I think they look good.
  4. Cramps. Yeah, he was cramping up. He drank Gatoraide and pickle juice on the sidelines to get the cramping to stop. Yes, pickle juice. LINK Pickle juice is a well-known remedy for treating cramps in athletes. http://www.nola.com/healthy-eating/2015/03/pickle_juice_for_muscle_cramps.html
  5. Thanks, but got hit by the OWH paywall, and the paper isn't worth $25/mo. for digital access. Any way you could regurgitate what his points are? Or is it pretty much a direct repudiation of what he said about Nebraska before the season started? <REDACTED> You can get around the OWH paywall that way.
  6. NDSU would win the Big XII outright this year, and easily be #2 in the B1G West, Pac-12 South, or SEC East. They don't have a lot of depth, so attrition due to injuries would be a factor, but the Big XII is a steaming pile of excrement this year (so far). Maybe the Big XII needs to check out the Fargo media market for expansion... Dude, you are freaking crazy.
  7. at least faster than #44. Mick is a DT (also fighting an injury) and Ross is a DE. I would expect Dzuris to be faster.
  8. He's fast, but what makes him so effective in the open field is how big he is. The dude is a solid 220 lbs and has thick legs. CB's and safeties don't want to see him in the open field.
  9. Riley and his staff are flexible in how they call their plays in terms of run/pass mix. However, I don't see them recruiting dual-threat QB's who would run the ball nearly as much as Tommy. After this year, I would be shocked if we see designed QB run plays more than 2-3 times a game.
  10. Having a lot of interceptions doesn't make Gerry a good player in coverage. It's a very flawed stat.
  11. Agree. I was livid when Prukop basically ran over Gerry on a scramble. It didn't go for long yardage but he's a GD Safety, he's supposed to deliver the blow. To Gerry's defense on that play, Prukop had been sliding to avoid contact all game, so it probably surprised Gerry that Prukop stayed on his feet. Had Gerry gone for the kill in that situation and Prukop does slide, Gerry is hit with a 15 yard penalty and Oregon is in FG position to tie the game.
  12. I haven't been big on Gerry's play so far this year. I thought he struggled in coverage against Wyoming, and he should have been there to break up the pass on 4th and 4 in the 2nd quarter that Oregon converted. Gerry was better in the 2nd half, but he struggles in coverage IMO.
  13. There was some discussion about that as Aaron Williams was pointing to his chest as if it was his fault I don't care who was supposed to have deep coverage, it was nice to see the DB go up and make a play on the ball and the ball fall incomplete.
  14. Traditional stats are a good indicator, but I like to see more sophisticated stats that measure efficiency. Team Defenses can look better than what they actually are, if they have an offense that slows down tempo and reduces the amount of possessions during the game. There is also such a small sample size, that stats can be skewed at this point. http://www.cfbanalytics.com/ appears to be a good site to look at some non-traditional stats that can go further in depth with the numbers.
  15. It was during Nebraska's last drive of the game. If that is a fumble and Oregon recovers, Armstrong doesn't get a chance to do his heroics. Yes, NU got fortunate at times during the game. But, that happens. In close games like that, the game usually comes down to 3 or 4 plays that can go either way. NU took advantage of Oregon mistakes and won the game. It's better than having it go the other way.
  16. NU beat Northwestern by 21 points in 2014. It was close for 3 quarters, but NU broke it open in the 4th.
  18. If NU loses to Northwestern, that's a bad, bad loss. I understand that games against Northwestern have been close since NU joined the Big Ten, but Northwestern is not a good team this year.
  19. There are plenty of super talented teams that beat up on teams that have a high number of penalties. But, penalties in close games can play a key part in who wins and loses. The penalties committed by Oregon on Saturday played a big factor in allowing NU to get the W.
  20. The defensive stats should get a boost by playing Northwestern next week. Their offense is quite offensive.
  21. Which ones were our bad wins again? Come on, all wins are good, but some are better wins than others. Geez.
  22. So he's as underrated as Louisville's Lamar Jackson? Sure. Riley just said he had the best game on the DL.... You can argue with me all you want, but when the HC agrees, maybe you should too? Saying he played the best game does not contradict anything that anyone in this thread has said. Do you feel like even though he is doing his job he has hit his ceiling? Considering he is basically half-way (practice-wise) through his fifth and final year, yes, I think this is probably his ceiling. His ceiling is looking pretty decent this year. Like I said, he's a solid player. Plays hard. Is in the right spots (as far as I can tell). But he doesn't seem to win a lot of one-on-one battles straight up. He's gotten some nice stats but they've mostly been benefits of being in the right spot at the right time. Freedom has caused much more havoc in the backfield but he doesn't have the stats to show for it. As was mentioned, it was really Freedom's pass rush that forced Prokup into Dzuris so Ross got the stats but it was really Freedom that made the play. None of that is to say Dzuris is a bad player. He's solid but probably slightly above average at best. That will work for this year (it'll have to). But we need some more dynamic play at that spot going forward. So you'd rather he not be in correct position to make plays? Makes sense. Where does Mavric say this? You are making up what he is saying. Mavric isn't knocking Dzuris' play, but he is just saying it would be nice to have a more talented player at the DE spot. I think we all would agree that a great talent and great positioning would be the best. However, that talent isn't on NU this year, so we will continue to support Dzuris and the solid play that he has done so far.
  23. But haven't we actually been better in these so far this year? Fewer turnovers and penalties? Knock on wood, I hope the trend continues. : Fewer turnovers, yes NU is doing well this year with those. But the penalties were terrible (especially personal fouls) in the first 2 games, and still had 7 for 55 yards against Oregon.
  24. That is a great time waste today. I think I found Coach Power T
