  1. He added about 30 lbs. He was never great, but he's gotten worse. He is listed at 280 for last year and this year.McMullen is over 300 right now. That's way too big for a DE in a 4-3. Not sure who's idea it was to get this big, but it was a bad idea.
  2. Henery was money, but the last FG attempt by Brown was deflected. The left side of the o-line got abused on that attempt.
  3. I was waiting for a post against Frosty. I'm not Power T, but I still am a Frost fan. I think Frost would know what NU is like and would be able to field a team that is ideal for the style of NU and the Big Ten. I think he would blend what is done at Oregon, as well as what he did at NU under Osborne. Finally, people would be against his inexperience, but we have a coach now who has been through 20 years as a head coach with average results. Sometimes it's worth going with the unknown in order to hit it big.
  4. he did not look good. No burst. Bad technique.Gerry is becoming very overrated. Other than a couple INT's this year, he has been very underwhelming.
  5. NU is biting way too much on play action fakes. All the Lbs bite up and they hit a receiver behind them.
  6. Janovich and a few Armstrong runs caused the most damage.
  7. And what kind of hire would have a greater than zero guarantee of success? There's never any guarantee, but Id rather have a guy with experience than a person who comes in with zero head coaching experience. But what if that head coaching experience is 20 years of being average? Wouldn't it be worth rolling the dice with the promising young coach?
  8. Any good coach will realize that they can pass the ball 50 times against Nebraska and win this year. If you aren't doing that, then your job should be questioned.
  9. The rule is jumping on top of would be blockers in an effort to block a kick. You can jump over would be tacklers anytime you want.
  10. I'm not the type of guy who is nostalgic about the fullback run. To me, the fullback give is a play of a bygone era. However, it was nice to see Janovich run with purpose and power when given the opportunity. I like the passes to the fullback just to keep the defense honest.
  11. It's obvious that Harbaugh is better than Riley, but the only college job Harbaugh was leaving the NFL for is Michigan. As long as Harbaugh is at Michigan, they will be very tough. It's too early to say what the Riley tenure at Nebraska will be like.
  12. As someone with extensive Madden video games experience, I agree. Also, as Count says, you see this at every level. Why? We all know to milk the clock down to a few seconds in Madden. Obviously there are reasons why teams don't cut it so close. Have always wondered why. Someone called this "NY Giants level clock control", and surely neither Tom Coughlin nor Eli Manning are novices. Is it that tricky to do all of the time? I guess it must be. Joel Klatt (former CU QB and current FOX analyst) tweeted that he sees so many clock management issues at the college level. I tweeted him back to ask if it's coaching or that they just don't have enough time to work on the finer details. He responded "both". But, these types of clock management issues aren't something that should be "worked on", these seem like common sense. If Read is going to be his ST guy, then he should know how to properly do a FG situation near the end of the game.
  13. NU almost got burned in the first half when Armstrong hit Westerkamp for a big gain and a first down and they didn't call a timeout. Five seconds burned off the clock before they got the next snap off.
  14. But I thought we were supposed to have an experienced coaching staff who knew what to do in these situations. It seems like Riley has no clue.
  15. If all of this is true, then this is bad coaching. How many times did we all talk until we were blue in the face, from an offensive perspective, about how important it is for a new coaching staff to merge what they do with what the players are capable of doing starting out, instead of trying to immediately force them into something completely foreign, ala Bill Callahan and the WCO? Regardless, you guys act like we've got a bunch of JV second stringers in our secondary. We don't. Our players might not be as talented as as a Marquees Dennard, but they're far from talentless. There's no good reason, against the competition we've faced, and with the players we have, for us to be this terrible against the pass. Worse than last year? Sure. Some legitimate growing pains? I could totally buy into that. Dead last in the country against a true freshman backup, two non-P5 teams and Brad Kaaya? No way son. Great point about how we would be mad if the offense was changing everything dramatically (even though it seems like they are, the offense may just have better coaches) and not producing results, but we are giving a free pass to the defense drastically changing everything and completely sucking.
  16. This is the 2nd time in 4 games that this has happened. NU has had opportunities to run the play clock down to zero and call a timeout before attempting a late FG. Instead, both times, Riley/Read chose to let the play clock run down and then snap the ball late in play clock. To me, this really throws off the timing of the FG attempt because the snapper, the linemen, the holder, and the kicker have to wait so long while they let the clock wind down. If you have a timeout available, why not call a timeout and then let the kicking team go at their own pace without worrying about winding down the play clock? I understand some people will say "you are just freezing your kicker", but I would rather have the kicking team have extra time to get out on the field, get settled and be at their own pace. It's little things like these that can be the difference between a win and a loss. It cost NU against BYU, and if So Miss had 30 more seconds, it could have cost NU again today. I swear that coaches need to have a 12 year old kid who plays hours of Madden video games to help them out with clock management issues.
  17. Fightin Frankies up on Minnesota in the 3rd quarter. Man, the B1G sucks.

ohio just gave them the game. dropped a very easy pick

  18. While Joe loves him some Joe and I question what he says, the results and the eye test seem to lend credence to his words. Yeah, but don't you think Joe knows what he is seeing when he sees the defense? He only practiced against it for 4 years. Joe knew today's defense as soon as they lined up. Banker needs to change something, and do it quick. I'm not denying what he said. He also said that Rileys offense in very similar to Callahans. I just remember what he said about Josh Freeman, and how that all proved to be untrue. So if Severe would have said it, you would find the statement more credible? When it comes to X's and O's I would have to think Joe knows what he's talking about. Of course, he isn't some guy on here who is "breaking down the o-line play" from watching the game TV replay.
  19. If an offense knows that is can complete a big pass nearly every play, that's what they are going to call. Eventually they won't need to worry about running the ball.

  21. I listened to a bit of The Bottom Line radio show (Severe and Ganz) and Ganz said that Banker's D is basically Cosgrove's D. The schematics are exactly the same. If Cosgrove's D was out of date 8 years ago then what does that make Banker's D? I know the concept is to make the offense one dimensional, but if it's so easy to pass against, then why would the offense do anything but line up in shotgun and run play action passes all day?
  22. Good play design, people will disagree on the timing of the play call, very poor execution by the QB.
  23. Agree that the goal isn't necessarily to score, but IMO, this type of play design/trickery is done best in an area that you can score. Why not try simpler plays to move you down the field, get a first down, and get into better FG range? Again, this is all hindsight. I am not trying to "bitch".
  24. Bachelor's in Finance from UNL. MBA from a really expensive graduate school, which I will be paying off forever.
