  1. Bleacher Report has about the same rapport on the Jaguars message board I'm on as it has here. They just don't get no respect...
  2. Tests (and school, a fair amount of the time) generally have no bearing on how intelligent someone might be. At least 50% of the time, schools and universities just ask you to jump through hoops that have no bearing on real life, and so the people that do well in school aren't necessarily the smartest people - they're just the people most willing to jump through hoops. What do ACT vocabulary requirements have to do with anything in the real world unless you're trying to be the next Mark Twain, or trying to be a crossword puzzle superstar? Seriously, at least half the stuff on the ACT was completely irrelevant to my coursework in college, and probably at least half of my coursework in college was completely irrelevant to what I was actually preparing to do in the real world. I don't disagree... a lot of what we learn in school only ends up applying to tests and never has much bearing on "the real world". That said, the hoops are there, and you have to jump through them. You can say, "He's going to school to play football, what would he need all that for?" but unless he's damn sure that he'll be playing on Sundays in 4 years or he's damn good at whatever he wants to do if football doesn't work out for him, he might as well use that scholarship to get a degree to fall back on while he's there.
  3. Why because they are both white? Come on. You're smarter than that (I hope).
  4. You aren't dating a girl who plays trumpet, are you? I won't tell you guys what I got on my ACT. I didn't study, but my score was absurdly high. I'm just really good at taking tests. I also won't tell you my graduating GPA out of High School - because it was embarrassingly low. Like, really embarrassingly low. Because I hated doing homework, and mostly skipped it. I aced all the tests, which is how I got out of school, but that super-crappy work ethic I developed made my college career at UNL very fun, but very, very brief. I flunked out of UNL my Freshman year and went into the workforce, working sh**ty jobs for a few years until I went back to school, finally getting an Associates degree at SCC. Still never got my bachelor's degree, but I've done OK without it. That's almost exactly how things have gone for me. I had the highest ACT score in my graduating class by 7 points, yet my GPA was middle-of-the-road. I did the college thing for a year, decided it wasn't for me, and went straight back to work.
  5. I can't imagine that getting an 18 would be that difficult. Qualifying for the J.D. Edwards program at UNL, on the other hand... With regard to Braylon's eligibility: yeah, a source would be nice. All the articles I've seen that mention that he may be academically ineligible are from June/July of 2010. The newest article I've found that mentions it is from just after Christmas, and according to that article, he is academically eligible. He got the score of 18 so he thought he was good. But he needed a cumulative score of 72 and he got a 71. A final score can have multiple cumulative scores so its kind of confusing. He can now retake the test and try to qualify but he's also now open to being recruited by other schools. And I believe he can go the Juco route but he'd have to graduate in 2 years to be able to attend UNL or any other university and play ball. Gotcha. They only mentioned ACT in the article I saw, I don't think they mentioned a cumulative score.
  6. Not to get too far off-topic, but the BCS system is broken. I may not agree with the holier-than-thou talking heads much, but if they're advocating a playoff system, I agree with them on that.

  8. Bubba is not coming here. Football will always be there, but multi million dollar contracts won't. He can talk to any of the number of QB's that came back to football after baseball didn't work out. Ask 28 year old Heisman winner Wienke or Weeden at OKSt. Or he could talk to Darin Erstad about playing football in college then playing professional baseball. If Bubba's as good at baseball as they say he is, there's no reason why he couldn't do the exact opposite and go to baseball if football doesn't work out. It's possible that once he graduates from college he's faced with the choice of signing a multi-million dollar contract with either the NFL or MLB.
  9. They could've come up with quite a few of those following away games at Mizzou.
  10. I don't think there's any way that the '10 offense scores 17 points on the '09 defense, but that's just me.
  11. Man, that kid has some wheels. Don't think Watsy would have any idea what to do with him, though.
  12. Despite what the rankings would suggest, I'd say that last year's team was better.
  13. Sour coach barking: Wow... what an angry man he is. Taylor got off easy compared to the tongue-lashing he gave Ms. Horne. Such a scathing response would've reduced R. Lee Ermey to tears. Suddenly I feel sympathetic to Lisa, that poor woman.
  14. Sorry for the shameless plug, but I posted a guest commentary on my coworker's blog about the situation here. I shouldn't be surprised by the reaction of the Anti-Husker Pitchfork Mafia over the article, but I'm a bit pissed about it.
  15. That's exactly what I've been saying. Cody may have "all the tools you look for", or "the intangibles", or whatever you want to call it, but he doesn't have the accuracy to be a consistent quarterback... at least not yet.
  16. Most mock drafts I've seen show Henery getting drafted somewhere. Even with Luck staying for his senior year, I'll be surprised if Prince goes 1st overall. Still top 5, but not 1st overall.
  17. We need a leader who can make plays. No matter how strong a guy's character is, if he can't make the plays he needs to make to help his team win, the other guys are going to question his leadership. Cody may have the character, but I've yet to see any evidence that he has the playmaking ability. He has a lot of work to do on that.
  18. I'll believe this when I see the Michigan job filled by someone other than Bo Pelini. Really? Do you really give this rumor that much credibility? Not just that, but more credibility than Bo himself saying it's bogus? I'm not saying Bo's an Honest Abe, but if he's gonna leave for another program, he's gonna leave. Why would he flat-out lie about it?
  19. You're right. Frazier was an incredible athlete, but as a QB, he was strictly an option guy. I remember him making some nice passes in his career (the tying 2 point conversion in the '95 Orange Bowl comes to mind) but Cody Green has made some nice throws too. The days when you could be successful with a QB who doesn't have a good arm are gone.
  20. Sounds about like the days when Matt Turman could start and help us win games. Those were the days, indeed. Kind of interesting scenario. Rex will give us the option to run a lot of wildcat... have him take the snaps and bring in Heard or Green as the back. I'd guess either running back by committee or a competition between Green and Heard, with the winner taking Roy Helu's old role and the loser redshirting.
  21. Now that he has the defense pretty well in hand do you think he'll probably go in that direction? Does he do the recruiting with offense or is that left totally up to the OC? Does Dr. Tom ever go on those recruiting trips? I've also been wondering why Nebraska doesn't recruit more in state kids. Can you imagine how great our team would've been with Danny Woodhead at the helm? He's doing fabulous things in the NFL and NU missed him. How did that happen? Because there's not that much talent in Nebraska. There's barely any. That's why the SEC has been so dominant, all the "speed" and "athleticism" is down south. With the flux of recruiting talent tilted wayyyy to the south, really they only thing Nebraska has going for it is prestige and tradition, much like Notre Dame, that's why we're on such a slippery slope. When places like Texas and Georgia have a down period it's easier for them to recover because they not only have prestige and tradition, but they have the warm weather and rich recruiting bases. The changing of the times really has dictated why we don't run that offense anymore, why really no one (except for the service academies and Georgia Tech) runs it anymore. The games about speed and preparation now. Speed and preparation are the two most important aspects of defending the option. But the defense leaves itself open for big plays on passing. Just because you run the option doesn't mean it has to be run heavy it can be balanced. I don't think anyone is going to be more patient with a feast or famine play action dependent offense. What I'm saying is that I think we would have the most success running a pro style offense where we can have a QB who doesn't have to be a superstar (a laTolzien, McElroy, Stanzi) to be successful. You need a pretty special QB to be successful with that spread option stuff. See Pat White, Tim Tebow, Vince Young. JMO saying something like that is downright ignorant im sorry. its a hell of a lot harder to recruit pro style players when 95% of the country is doing the same thing. if only 0.5% of the country is recruiting option/spread option players then you have a much bigger pool to dip into and you have a better shot at getting the players you need instead of settling for other schools leftovers. im sorry dude but that was the worst post ive seen in a long time.... So you think it's going to be easier to recruit wide receiver to come block for your team and catch 10 passes a year when he could go play for Texas Tech and catch 50 balls a year? You think it's easier to find a Pat White than a Scott Tolzien? 95% of the country is not running pro style. The metaphorical "pool" that you're talking about dipping into...is that QB's or all recruits? I don't think the "pool" for fast spread option QBs is all that deep. Other than QBs, the guys you're recruiting isn't all that different from pro-style to spread to option. You're right. The spread's the FOTW in college football right now, and the spread is NOT a pro-style offense.
