  1. I read the he increased the Hurricane Club at Miami by over 500 members in one year, and that the school president is really disappointed that he is leaving.
  2. pressure O'Brien! He isn't warm yet...let's give him something to think about!
  3. defensive adjustments have been GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. If Bo gets fired, it will be the new AD that wants to bring in his person
  5. glass half full: we have momentum from scoring and then holding them without a score at the end of the half d-line is actually lining up on the line of scrimmage opened up the offense late in the half and that should loosen up the line of scrimmage glass half empty 20-10 defense is biting on every single play action, leaving receivers open neither line is playing well at this point and you cannot win that way no pass rush without all out blitzing
  6. the D needs to figure out how to defend the perimeter. Most of their big chunks of yards are outside the tackles, either with the quick pass or runs
  7. He wasn't that bad but took a few steps back. His well placed balls from last week were gone, it was far from his best game. Someone needed to pull him aside in the second half and tell him to take a breath. He clearly got a little rattled by the defense and rushed some passes. He had a couple of passes where he threw from his back foot in the second half when he should have stepped up to deliver the throw and take the blow Yes, it was the reverting to last year's form when the pressure got there that has me wondering if he has come as far as we believed. Hopefully, a little film work and a little creative play calling from Beck can negate that formula. No one really expected him to be as good as he was in game 1. He took a step back, but I think he will end up being somewhere between games 1 and 2. The real challenge is going to be that other teams are going to try and rattle him using pressure based on UCLA's success. We have to scheme to beat that
  8. Alright, this is starting to get suspicious. I know with Klatch, and Green, and Moore we were all for them leaving as they had an entitlement attitude, or couldn't keep their "rage" under control ... But Rome always seemed like a good kid. I remember how many people were excited about his martial arts background and how that could help him on the DL. But if he's now gone.... Something strange has got to be going on. We're hemorrhaging players at an alarming, PSU-like rate, and something ain't adding up. When was the last time you could remember someone leaving the team for something other than medical reasons mid-season. The last one I can remember before this season was Blake Lawrence, and he was definitely for injury reasons. And it's not like these guys are scrubs who haven't played for us. Green played (albeit, just a little) as a true frosh. Moore was set to be our starting LT. Rome was our second or third most experienced DT. I like Bo's mentality alot, but if he is truly causing all these guys to leave the team by pissing them off somehow, he may be building his own grave. You cannot have starting caliber talent just continue to up and quit your team because you're being stubborn in the way you do things. I definitely think that the head coach and even any of the position coaches should definitely be in control and have authority over the players, but there's a fine line they seem to be walking. You raise a good point. In years past it seems like we didn't lose near as many during the season. Sure we'd lose the occasional guy in the offseason. But not many while the season was underway. Deangelo Evans comes to mind. I'm hard pressed to think of others. Which just makes me question... what has changed? What exactly in the structure of our team or the way it's run has changed so drastically that is causing guys to just up and walk away? I'm at a loss. We had a couple of qb's leave in the past
  9. IF Rome is gone, then I wish him luck. I had high hopes for him when we landed him. However, both LY and TY he played way too high, not getting any leverage. He seldom got any penetration, and, even though he was a D-end in high school, his speed never seemed to show up in games. He was a tweener IMHO. Not low enough for DT and not speedy enough for DE.
  10. He wasn't that bad but took a few steps back. His well placed balls from last week were gone, it was far from his best game. 11. I am no expert at breaking down a defense, I don't think our D adjusted well at all. Their RB ran around us the entire second half. They made plays when then needed them. some questions/observations: If a two-gap defensive scheme is to engage and protect the gaps, then why would we start a full yard off the ball. It seems to me that giving up a yard right at the snap just gives the offense time to fire off the ball and move into position. Why not engage and protect right at the point of the snap? We knew we were playing a very mobile qb but I didn't see us spying him. Did I miss that? what in the world has happened to Meredith?? He showed so much promise his sophmore year. He seems to have regressed since then. our defensive slowness reminds me of our mid 70's and late 80's teams. Good against inferior teams, and exposed against good ones. our tackles play way too high at the point of attack. Especially Rome. after last year's defensive showing, and the first two games this year, Bo needs to swallow his pride and make some sweeping changes in scheme. This one does not work with the horses we are able to recruit.
  12. Curious what your thoughts are here. What's this based on? We've had bad plays and breakdowns, and good plays, from all three levels of the defense. IMO the DL has been the biggest liability thus far, though. Our D had two major issues tonight: 1 - they were pretty consistently missing assignments, and 2 - we are awfully slow in the front 7
  13. wish Cody well, but I was rooting for they cyclones. I have always respected them.
  14. Nice post. Those 2 stats are actually very good. I really didnt think they were that good. Maybe the better question would be how many of those TFLs and Sacks were from D lineman? It seemed like most of our TFL's were in the 4th quarter. I was really worried for the first three quarters. They were gashing the D. And what was up with the middle of the field being WIDE open. At times we didn't have a single player inside the has marks.
  15. his first two FG attempts he was far to casual about it. I bet someone kicked him in the a$$ on the sideline about his kickoffs because they did get better as the day went on, and you could see by his PAT's that he was putting his foot into it better after the FG misses
  16. I started paying particuliar attention to our defensive line in the 2nd quarter and I agree they were getting pushed around. Where was that head butt technique Kaz was supposed to be teaching them? I can't say I seen it today? This
  17. that our defense thinks between the hashes are no man's land, since they stayed out of the middle all day!
  18. that our defense is not scary good.....it is just scary
  19. this right here, back when tom first started to coach, there wasnt near the discrepancy in college football that there is today. you hardly ever seen a nobody team upset one of the big guys, now it happens all the time, it seems like almost on a week to week basis. bo is doing pretty well for what he has had to work with, especially giving the fact that he is fairly new at the head coaching gig and he doesnt have a plethora of assistant coaches that have been with him/the program for a long time. Not only this, but remember, Tom took over a train that was already stocked and moving down the tracks the right way. The program was a juggernaut when he took over. Severe recruiting restrictions did not exist. It took him awhile to figure out that he needed to continue to tweak the process in order to keep the program at the top. Thus the switch to defensive speed. Bo, on the other hand, had to turn the train around and then had to get it moving again. He has done that, We should see the program pick up speed now. Our recruiting is getting better. the conference schedule gets easier beginning next year. He has made some good coaching changes (with one still needed). Everyone likes the "instant" success when it happens. But in most cases, steady improvement with an occasional leap forward is more likely to generate a long-term success story.
  20. agree with you Knappic. Cotton has not elevated the play of the recruits. In some cases they have regressed. Part of coaching is being able to handle/motivate the "prima donnas" as well as the walk-ons. Cotton has clearly not done this well. You could make an argument that it is far easier to motivate the walk-ons, since they are trying to claw their way upward without any sense of entitlement. I, for one, would like to see a clean break with Cotton after the season. It would be hard on the team to do it now, unless you have a ready-made stud replacement waiting in the wings.
  21. Clack - I don't know if I am seeing the same thing, but it worries me that if TM gets injured, we don't have a single quarterback with ANY playing time. He should get some playing time, just to give him some game time speed experience. Pinkel does this with his young qb's. It has worked pretty well for him. OK....I have my armor on...attack away
  22. Despite hating Mizzery, you have to respect GP for where he has brought his team. They were a good match for DONU while we were reconstructing a winner. I do agree that they have not done enough with the talent they have amassed. And I do think they will have more trouble fielding 9-10 win seasons in the SECheaters. There just aren't enough lower level teams for them to catch their breath after hard games. That will take it's toll on them. I don't think we will ever see them in the B1G, since the SECheaters is a better conference that makes as much/more money than the B1G. Good luck to your team Fro....they are sure going to need it.
