  1. Oh Yeah, well I like chickens and they don't cost much!!!
  2. JP is a bad Mumba Jumba. That guy, one day is in Hawaii and the next, he is in Florida. I think he needs a raise before anyone else because of what he does on the recruiting trail.
  3. While i would normally agree with you it's just that we don't have depth yet for all positions especially qb. If thats the case, then depth would be a problem no matter what scheme we run. People are basing next years offense off of this years offense and that shouldn't be done. Yes, we had a rough year or half year on offense, but look at what we were doing and who we had playing. It was our first year in a new scheme with a new QB. Some people can't see that or chose not to look at it that way. I want to think that we will be better next year just based off the fact that we will be in year two of this offense along with a QB that will have a year under his belt running this offense.
  4. He is forgoing football to be a minister in some third world country. Just a guess
  5. I think safeties will be better. We will have atleast 3 of them that have starting experience.
  6. I have to say that I agree with the OP. We haven't had an offensive identity for any consecutive years since Pelini took over. This next year might break that trend with us focussing on the zone-read for a second year in a row. Our offense will be in year two running this scheme and should be able to understand more of it then they did this last year. With being more comfortable with the scheme, our offense should be able to implement more, making us more effective.
  7. I don't think Stanard is in consideration. And I think you're going to be pretty disappointed when its Els. He's pretty high energy and has special teams experience. I'd look for JP to get more responsibility on the defense as he turned down the Gators to stay here. Els doesn't see like much, but hey. . . who would have though Carl was going to be any good either? Sometimes coaches don't seem that impressive because of the places they've coached and sometimes the reverse is true as well and they look impressive because of those stops when they're not that great of coaches. Well, if I were a businessman with a top-tier company, I most certainly would not take a gamble on hiring an unproven individual that may or may not be successful. I would hire individuals with a record of proven success and at least hold them to the high production levels that they maintained at their previous place(s) of employment... Of course, with no inside info to go off of, it is entirely possible that Nebraska did go after highly successful LB coaches and these two Schmuckatellis are the only ones who would bite... Which would make me sad. You assume their a bad position coach because of the places they've worked in the past? I bet you there are a ton of good lower and middle managers (position coach equivalents) at Eron, or GM, or pick a bank on the bail out list. Are they to blame for the upper management's mistakes (coordinators and head coach equivalents)? If that was the case why would anyone hire Rex Ryan? He started at the D 2 level and eventually got his shot at DC under John Blake at Oklahoma which was a disaster, but after that he's done relatively well. Not saying that at all. I'm sure there are many great position coaches currently employed at smaller, less reputable universities. However, I do like your Rex Ryan story there.. Especially since Nebraska would be in the position of Oklahoma (which you admit was a "disaster"). Who cares if he goes on to coach the Jets if he can't produce on the level he's hired for? I know that there's a great feeling of "we discovered this guy's greatness," especially when said-person is a former Husker, but Nebraska SHOULD be a program where the coaching staff doesn't have to give the benefit of the doubt to anybody. Their attitude should be "we brought you in because you were successful, now go be successful or you're fired." Your attitude is "These guys might be successful, lets give them a shot and see." And if they're not, they invite a litany of excuses as to why they should still be employed. Who said the staff is giving a guy the benefit of the doubt? Does one coaching at Ohio and the other at NMS make them any less of a coach then someone at USC or Florida, no. These guys very well could be just as good or better then anyone at top schools, but just haven't been givin the chance.
  8. Have fun going 0-12 every year. Hey... I'm talking pre-CU Hawkins, thats worth aleast 2 wins. Besides, winning isn't everything.
  9. Scheme: Playground OC: Dan Hawkins OL: Don't need one RB: Same as above WR: Ditto QB: None, just run wildcat Scheme: Two hand touch DC: Kevin Cosgrove DL: Doesn't matter LB: Who cares DB: Don't have any(all DL and LBS) SP: The kicker off of the replacements
  10. I love these smaller backs like AA. It is always fun to watch guys like Devine(WVU) and James(ORE) run, you never know what they are going to do. Welcome to the family AA.
  11. MR. BIG TIME...Josh Turner Just a guess and wish
  12. Prince is gonna sh#t the bed at the combine and drop down the board and the Bears will pick him up. God, life would be wonderful if that happened.
  13. Sirles was a first year starter just like Caputo and got his ass handed to him a few times also. Just because he got beat a few times doesn't mean he is not a good center. I thought he done well for being a first year starter in a new system along with new blocking schemes and line calls.
  14. Very well put and I agree 100%. It wouldn't bother me to bring him in as a position coach and let him know that in the near future that he could become the OC if or when the current OC decides to leave.
  15. i think a lot of people thought TM starting was not a 100 percent...... i think Bo even said the QB comp. was open this year as well and taylor is gonna have to earn it again.... it could be just talk I guess but i still found it interesting TM's not a lock. He could get injured (knock on wood) or somebody could step up and play out of their mind in the offseason and dethrone him. But he is the frontrunner, by far, and it's nuts to expect freshmen like Carnes, Starling, or Turner to win the job this season, which is what some people think is going to happen. Agree. If somebody other than Martinez is walking out taking the first snaps against Tenn-Chatt, then we are in some serious trouble this season. Quite frankly it doesnt matter who the QB is, if our offense conitunes to produce like it has the past 2 years, we will be 8-4 at best. Its Martinez's job to lose as much as I hate to say that. Of course I thought Zac Lee was gonna be our starter in 2010, no question about it. I don't think we're in the midst of changing offenses this year, though. Zac Lee didn't lose his job because he's not a good QB, he lost his job because he's just not as good of a fit for the offensive system Nebraska is now running. He wasn't enough of a threat running the football for what the coaches want to do. Of course we all didnt really know we were to this zone read stuff till about 3 days before the first game either this past year. Really? That's what I thought we were doing... I wasn't on the board much until that point last year, but I remember thinking starting at the Holiday Bowl against Arizona that we were going to be moving towards a spread option game... Yes after the holiday bowl, I think perception was we would see more of the wildcat, with Rex. Not nesscarily go full blown Oregon zone read style, with an uproven QB. Oregon had an unproven QB this year the same age as Martinez and they didn't dial down anything. If that is the direction we are going, why not go full blown? Nebraska was so vanilla and predictable this year it wasn't even funny. If fans knew the play before hand, then then defense prob. knew the play before hand. The thing that makes Oregons offense great (and I don't want to hear about how they did in the NC bc at least they made it to that game) is the fact that they go so fast! The no-huddle offense really wears down defenses. Auburns defense was huffing anf puffing after the end of the 1st quarter. Plus the fact that they run different sets and versions of the spread option like in the videos Blaze posted earlier. I enjoyed watching their offense in the NC game. They did not score many points, but they were able to move the ball fairly well. If this is the direction we are going, we need to go full out this year and not be so vanilla. Oregon's Qb might have been unproven this year but I bet he played Qb on the scout team or with the top units to get him to know the playbook. Martinez last year was playing receiver on the scout team and was learning he offense this year along with everyone else.
  16. Maybe Bo and Wats are taking things slow on the offensive side of the ball because Bo knows that his defense has the ability to win games for us. The defense has done a damn good job of giving us the chance to win every game so far. Think about it, we are moving toward an offensive scheme that none of our O coaches know how to coach and they are learning along with the players. Maybe we are moving to that scheme in stages like this year we mainly ran the same zone read play out of the same sets. This next year, maybe they are going to add in some other wrinkles to go along with what we did this last year and continue the pattern till we are able to run the offense we want without hesitation. This is all just a thought and in no means what is acually going on. It makes sense to a point though.
  17. Take both him and Virgil, We have David(sr), Compton(jr) and Fish(jr) that will be gone by the time these two would be redshirt freshmen.
