  1. General fans don't understand this, they think that a 4* or 5* recruit is someone who can come in and be an immediate impact player at the College level. This is the furthest thing from the truth. These are kkids that have been impact players at the High School level only. They do not know all the technique involved at the next level. Developing talent is the key to winning at the college level. Redshirting is extremely important in developing these kids. So many people scream to play these big time recruits. Truth is they realy are not ready and it only hurts the team long term not having them there 5 years. for an example. Say each teams starting lineup is 10 seniors, 9 jrs, 2 soph and 1 fresh. Team Red doesn't redshirt. Team blue redshirts everyone. Team reds previous years experiance is SR - 30 years, JR - 18 years, Soph - 2 years, Fresh - 0 Total team previous years experiance = 50 Years Team Blue previous years experiance is SR - 40, JR - 27, Soph 4, Fresh - 1 Total team previous years experiance = 72 Years Team Blue has 22 more years of experiance coming in to the season than Team Red. The differance in experiance adds up even more than this when you start adding up the experiance from their depth charts.
  2. I don't think he should have played Ganz against Texas until Keller went down. BUT, I do not understand why Ganz didn't get any time in the blow out losses we took 3 weeks in a row.
  3. Just because I am a big Wyatt suporter. Didn't Carriker and Moore last year say something to the effect of Wyatt actually coached them up on hand placement, technique, etc... That should be considered being a good and effective coach. As far as the penetration and letting teams run unblocked. He doesnt control the formation and coverages. If the Coordinator chooses to only have 3 men on the line, or even 4, it is not his fault. It IS his fault if his players are not getting any penetration. But that is something that is difficult for anyone when you are up against the blocking schemes we have seen. When we only have 3 or 4 men rushing its not to tough to block them with 5 or 6 men. Plus Coz still (to the best of my knowledge) uses a read and react defensive line scheme, rather then trying to actively pursue assignments. That is a big downfall that cant be pinned on Wyatt. This is all just my opinion but i say keep the guy around. You cannot be an ineffective coach in the SEC, which he wasnt. Give him time, a better coordinator, and better talent and then judge him. All position coaches do that....That is their job.
  4. Lucky has a rep for going down easy. He was like that and started to run a little harder late last season. This season he is improved in getting YAC. He still isn't going to run over a defense and wear them down however he is doing better this season. PS: Lucky would be 3rd string at best on the 94/95 team.
  5. Johnny Rogers was not a WR, he was a wingback in the power I and spread offense. He played WR, WB and TB in the 1973 Orange Bowl against Notre Dame and scored from each position. Same thing in that Offense. He was a reciever primarily. They had a SE to one side and a WB on the other side most the time. They did not have a position called WR in that offense. They also were considered a passing team for those days.
  6. With Keller in bad shape. It realy is a shame that Ganz didn't get any real playing time this season. All those blow outs he could have played in the 4th quarter.
  7. I wouldn't say that with any sarcasm. The "Fire____" threads almost keep me away from the boards. But worse are the "The Huskers suck" threads. GTFO already. Oh, and my personal favorite, "Let (backup QB name) play!" All a bunch of BS from people who seemingly know just enough to be dangerous with a keyboard. I know a little more than just typing on a keyboard. Answer this. Why hasn't Ganz played when games were out of control? He is the favorite to be the starter next season. Shouldn't he get game experiance when it is available? Having him sit when down by 30+ in the 4th quarter is rediculous. You can't develop talent that way. Callahan hasn't developed talent. Developing talent is what seperates the Great from the good, the good from the average and the average from the bad. Keep in mind that Taylor is Callahans boy. He will always stand up for Callahan. I have no problem with ZT being loyal to his former coaches. But you need to keep that in mind when he speaks to the press.
  8. His first season when he continue to try and pass on the 2 yard line.
  9. Lucky will probably be a 3rd down back and Special Teams player in the NFL.
  10. Johny Rogers wasn't a RB. He did play one game at I-Back in his career. Rogers was a WR.
  11. I'm surprised Jerry Moore name hasn't been thrown around. He is a bit old but he is provan as a Head Coach and has ties to Nebraska. He was a recievers coach and Offensive coordinator in the 70's at Nebraska. He has won 2 National Championships back to back at App State.
  12. Why would they meet in Memphis or a random city? This part I just don't understand.
  13. When did Osborne say he won't fire Callahan? He hasn't canned anyone and never said he wouldn't. All he said was that he would not fire Callahan during the season and will wait until after the season to make the final evaluationand any decisions on coaching changes. What is it that you do not understand about his character?

  15. Callahan has no clue what he is doing. He has not used the avantage of redhirting players since he's been in Lincoln. A 5th year player will always be better than he was in his 4th year.
  16. I'm going with Osbourne's word on this one.
  17. ya God forbid we have a coach without TO ties It doesn't matter too much it's gonna be whoever the new coach want's (scheems etc...) Ties to Osbourne will give you a greater chance of retaining a position on the new staff. But you have a point. Going to a staff that has no ties to Osbourne should work out nicely as proven over these last 4 seasons If you listen to what Osbourne has been saying. You should realize his main priority is restoring Nebraska identity and values.
  18. Didn't going the NFL Coach route get us in this situation in the first place?
  19. Appalachian State Head coach was an assistant on Osbournes staff
  20. Osbourne isn't the typw to make a decision of that magnitude as quik as this. The same rumors have been said about Bo P. It could happen but I am sure Osbourne is going to look around a bit before making a decision.
  21. The progression should be.... Former player --> Grad Assistant --> Position Coach --> Coordinator --> Head Coach, as the person shows the ability in each and every position. Oh, and by the way, for all of you who seem to think a HS coach should be HC it is much the same.... HS Coach --> Grad Assistant --> Position Coach --> Coordinator --> Head Coach You don't move from H.S. Head Coach to being a Grad Assistant. Many have already done that job. More like they move to a position coach.
  22. That walkon program produced some All-Americans and plenty of starters. The Key was that with the large numbers and them holding 4 or 5 Scholorships for the walkons to compete for each year. They ended up getting some realy hard working and talented kids. Which gives you better odds of developing an all american? 80 walkons or 20 Walkons?
  23. NONE! I haven't seen any improvement at any positions to want any of the Coaches on staff now.
  24. I don't feel sorry for him at all. He did this all to himself. Perlman was a lot more diplomatic about it than when SP fired Solich. As a former athlete at Nebraska (Not Football), I can tell you that former athletes were being allienated from the programs. It started with football but other sports were heading that way.
  25. I am not positive Callahan will go this year. I know Cosgrove is gone at seasons end. Mostly this has to do with the money to buy out his contract. If they get the money to buy him out, he will be gone. If not it will be one more year to prove himself.
