DJR313
Word on the street is that Octavian came into camp 15 pounds overweight, and that Ruud has outworked him. Ruud is a proven player, Octavian is not. What street is this? The paper reported he was 241 before his surgery, 233 afterwards. That's right where the coaches wanted him. I don't think Ruud starting is a bad thing. He is a damn good player, he really stepped up last year. Octavien is going to play a bunch and it may be a week to week thing as to who starts depending upon who has the better practices. For right now, I am sure Octavien is still trying to get his legs under him from having surgery. We are blessed to have a guy waiting in the wings like Ruud. Quote Link to comment
huskerhaze
I say we go to a 4-4-3 defense with Steve-O playing the OLB/Rover position with one saftey and 2 corners thoughts anyone? not against T Tech for sure. Quote Link to comment

I remember reading an article that said he lost that weight, but wants to get down to 225. Quote Link to comment

They are both great linebackers, but this is the first I heard of Octavien being overweight. Like DJR said, I thought that's right where the coaches want him. Who lives on that street? ttheKid1*18
I thought Octavien was faster? If not, I think he is quicker side to side. Even though it was one game, it seemed Octavien moved around faster than Ruud. It's great we have this kind of talent at lb, and it will show this season. Quote Link to comment
huskerdavo
I have no problem with it because in the LB department I think Coz knows whats up Quote Link to comment
ttheKid1*18
^^^I trust this staff fully with what they do. And if they think Ruud is the better player, or has outperformed Octavien, then awesome. Let's get the season going! Quote Link to comment

Sean Callahan who has reported it at least twice on the radio in the past couple of days. Maybe he has no idea what he's talking about, though. Quote Link to comment

I am not sure I would say that he was 15 lbs over weight, because that is where he was last year and in the spring. Regardless, I think him and Ruud are still even and it was the appendix surgery that separated them. Quote Link to comment
Hawkeyehusker
Ruud had 80 tackles last season, including 12 tackles for loss. Of all the blackshirts returning only McKeon had more. Ruud would get a lot of playing time either way. Octavian might have won a co-starters position if he didn't become ill but Ruud was always going to be our starter. Quote Link to comment
ttheKid1*18
I heard on the radio as well that he was overweight. There was no reason he should have been. Hopefully he is getting back in shape for the season. Quote Link to comment
